AIBU - England couldn’t care less about Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has seen a return to violence , petrol bombs etc every night for a week now. It’s dominated the headlines here in Ireland. People are worried as peace up north is so fragile. Listening to the radio yesterday an old advisor of Tony Blair was on to discuss. The radio host read out the top 8 listed stories on all main English sites and the violence of Northern Ireland didn’t even feature. It’s the top headline again in all major Irish publications this morning but not in English publications.
@Sarahtrue11 Yes you're the Irish person who thought living in Northern Ireland during the Troubles was 'exciting' and the British soldiers were 'lovely'

My post stands, I don't know why you would want to take on British colonial attitudes or act like Ireland is the only European country that's seen conflict recently.

It's one thing to be frustrated with people resorting to violence, it's another thing to say it's because they're too stupid and childish to know better
The British soldiers that I met were lovely. Really nice and lovely people. Teenagers and young men. I had great chats with them . Do you want me to say that they were not? How can a whole army be bad? They are made up of different human beings.

I saw them as human beings, I couldn't care less what side they were on, or what side anyone is on, everyone in Northern Ireland is a human being.

Sarah true could start a fight in an empty room. Sarah has been posting lots of um stuff all over any thread that mentions Ireland.

One might even believe That Sarah may have an agenda.

blubberyboo · 09/04/2021 16:44

The biggest insult of all is to label it “The Troubles” as though it were a bought of indigestion!!!

It was a 30 year civil war within the UK!!!

One that is not taught about in schools in GB

Honestly what other civil war in the world gets labelled such a patronising name.

Are you following me? I guess I am much more important to you than you are to me, as your name does not look familiar to me at all. How weird that you are following me.

"I am on posting on threads that mention Ireland", eh , maybe because I live in Ireland?

I don’t know, how about “the Emergency”?

Yes, I agree with that.
HotPenguin · 09/04/2021 16:46

I personally care a lot about the NI situation but sadly I agree most people in England are completely ignorant on the subject. Many people don't even know the difference between the UK, GB and England. When I was at school NI was not mentioned at all until A level history, 12 out of 200 in my school year took A level history, that explains why the majority no zilch about it.

UhtredRagnarson · 09/04/2021 16:46

@LexMitior

I’m been working in and out NI for years. I’m not convinced that the Alliance party and their lonely campaign for “normal” politics cuts much ice with people. They don’t get serious votes, NI is still very sectarian, people fighting because they believe they will lose out. It hadn’t changed in 25 years of going there, and I think people who don’t share the sectarian views can’t be in very great numbers or it would be a verY different country - and those that leave NI take that more reasonable attitude with them.
Wow.
Sarahtrue11 · 09/04/2021 16:46
@Sarahtrue11 you're talking an awful lot of shite on this thread and it's quite disturbing. So when you lived in NI for one year age 6 you were able to make a comprehensive judgement of the character of the occupying British soldiers in Belfast - yeah right!

Your other posts are naive and insulting regarding why peace has been difficult to attain in NI.
And yet I see posters agreeing with me, so guess what, your opinion only belongs to you.

UhtredRagnarson · 09/04/2021 16:50

I’ll go again since my last comment was deemed too offensive for MN, which in the context of some of the comments on this thread is completely laughable!

@Sarahtrue11 Why don't they sit down and talk about how to move forward

You have to be joking with this shit.

Maybe you could explain then why Alliance is on course to be the second biggest party after Sinn Féin then?
UniBallEye · 09/04/2021 16:54

@Sarahtrue11 yet I only see poster disagreeing with you..so I don't think my opinion only belongs to me. But I think you enjoy inflaming situations so I'll give your posts a wide berth from now on.

MadamBatty · 09/04/2021 16:54

But Sarah you said that you live in Albania now after living in Sweden & Mexico last year?

I’m not following you but I have a very good memory.

PhoenixandtheRug · 09/04/2021 16:54

Ignore the unnecessary then.

Care to elaborate instead of just cursing?

I see people from Northern Ireland on this thread who said the exact same thing as me. Do you think they also "had to be joking with their shit?'

Sarahtrue11 · 09/04/2021 16:56

@MadamBatty

But Sarah you said that you live in Albania now after living in Sweden & Mexico last year?

Stalker alert. Seriously there are strange people on here.

Yes, how is my history that you have dredged up relevant?

Yes I left Ireland last year and I am currently working remotely in Albania. I will return to Ireland in two months time. Is that ok for you? Go follow some one else.

UhtredRagnarson · 09/04/2021 16:56

You don’t need me to elaborate at all @Sarahtrue11

PhoenixandtheRug · 09/04/2021 16:58

PADH, there was a UDA funeral that broke covid rules. Sammy Wilson was reported several times breaking the rules. All this nonsense about a funeral is to deflect from the DUP being responsible for the NiP. The same DUP who regularly meets with the LCC which is full of drug dealing scumbags from the UVF and UDA, and who we all know handle and run the DUP.

CantBeAssed · 09/04/2021 17:02

Im from NI and have to say some the downright ignorance on this thread is deeply insultingHmm

Emeraldshamrock · 09/04/2021 17:03

@Sarahtrue11 If I remember correctly you grew up Athlone a small town in Roscommon? Not NI in the Republic generally not dealing with British soldiers.

MadamBatty · 09/04/2021 17:03

Sarah you posted the other day, how is that history? I’m merely pointing out that there may be inconsistencies in some your posts.

You also have a very aggressive style as evidenced by your PM to me.

I worked in Albania for a number of years on & off, interesting g place to work from remotely.

Nocar · 09/04/2021 17:03

Disagree. I’m English and care about what is happening in Northern Ireland. I’m old enough to have lived through the troubles and it saddens me to see what’s happening.

PhoenixandtheRug · 09/04/2021 17:04
@PhoenixandtheRug you do realise there was protestants in the south of the irland that were forced to move north due to partician. Lands removed and not given a choice but to move.
Hard views like yours IS the reason why northern ireland struggles to work as a place. Lots of people want integrated education for their children and for no one to be left behind regardless of religion or political views. Perhaps of teaching colleges were merged it would produce a wonderful training environment for all teachers as well as stoplight g the constant waste of money on duplication of services on sectarian grounds
Of course I know that Hank. But Protestants live very happily down south and have done for decades and treated with respect...the same cannot be said about CNR communities in the North.

Hard views? Maybe. My unionist husband would probably beg to differ. I just don't like people ignoring the revolting oppression of Catholic nationalists that continued until the 1990s in their agenda to paint 'both sides' as being equally to blame.

moochingtothepub · 09/04/2021 17:09

It was second headline this morning, but actually I do think a lot of English people really don't have strong feelings whether n Ireland is part of the Union or not. That's being polite, back in the 90's most my friends would have happily said hand it over to Ireland, more trouble than it's worth.

I'm generally not bothered myself, I hate violence though
