@Roussette
I listened to his Mother saying 'he's a good man'. It was minutes of her telling everyone how unfair it all was, and how she won't be able to hug him now. Not one word of sympathy for George Floyd's family. He wasn't mentioned.
Ok, I understand a mother's love and (at times) blindness. She kept going on and on about how 'kind' he is, how 'helpful' he is, etc etc. The thing is all those racist KKK bastards who were lynching black people back in the day were also most likely 'kind' to their mothers and 'helpful' to their neighbours, and they probably sat in the 'Amen Corner' at church every Sunday. They saved their hate and ugliness for blacks, jews, catholics, and those they considered 'others'.
Chauvin's apparent disdain for and cruelty to Mr Floyd and the other people he mistreated (he had 18 letters of reprimand in his file) is completely compartmentalized in his head. Those people were 'them' and 'deserved it'. His friends and family are 'us' and are people he loved or respected and that wanted to think well of him.
I hope and pray I'm never in his mother's position. But if I am I hope and pray that I get the help I need to see clearly.
