amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/04/28/politics/congress-address-tonight/index.html
(CNN)President Joe Biden is slated to deliver his first joint address to Congress on Wednesday, where he will lay out his next big legislative priority to the American people and celebrate what he sees as his administration's victories during his first 100 days in office.

DuncinToffee · 28/04/2021 18:54

Rudy will be sweating again
Biden 100 days: What we all got wrong about him
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56903805
Very interesting article.

"With the passing of the stimulus package - or the American Rescue Package, as it is more properly called - Biden wanted to correct something he felt that Barack Obama had got wrong when he came to power and inherited the mess of the financial crisis in 2009. Yes, Obama passed a variety of measures - but with hindsight they were seen as too cautious; not ambitious enough."

IMO, Biden can do it because he's white. Obama would have been much more criticised. (also, Biden comes after Trump)

Another report of Rudy:

edition.cnn.com/2021/04/28/politics/rudy-giuliani-federal-prosecutors/index.html

Cohen's response:

thehill.com/policy/national-security/550784-michael-cohen-on-raid-of-giuliani-apartment-here-we-go

And Andrew Guiliani seems to think they got the wrong apartment or something:

"The only piece of evidence that they did not take up there today was the only piece of incriminating evidence that is in there — and it does not belong to my father, it belongs to the current president's son."

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/04/2021 22:43

Giuliani's son Andrew briefly stepped outside of his father's Manhattan apartment on Wednesday afternoon to denounce the Department of Justice, saying that if this can happen to "the former president's lawyer, this could happen to any American."

Darn tootin', and so it should! If any American is believed, with ample evidence, to have behaved as it is believed Giuliani Senior behaved, then his premises should be searched for evidence. And there would be something very wrong in America if such a search were not made -- no matter how hard the person believed to have broken the law tried to prevent it from happening.

Roussette · 29/04/2021 07:27

President Biden’s adviser Cedric Richmond tells Wolf, “This president has said that he wanted the Justice Department to be completely independent. They are. And so we don't interfere with them and we don't comment on what they do.”

Biden is so refreshing after Trump with his personal AG Barr.

Just awaiting a statement from Trump saying...
'Rudy Guliani? I barely knew him. I'm not sure what he did for us. Just didn't know him at all'

Roussette · 29/04/2021 07:28

That first comment was when asked about the raid on Guiliani... the administration's response.

Watching Biden's address last night. To see two women, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and VP Kamala Harris behind him was history made.

DuncinToffee · 29/04/2021 07:51

Just reading some comments on Biden's speech

Biden begins his address: “Madam Speaker. Madam Vice President. No President has ever stood from this podium and said those words before. And it’s about time.”

DuncinToffee · 29/04/2021 07:54

JRehling @JRehling
Trump lawyer Michael Cohen: Convicted.
Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani: Raided.
Trump lawyer Sidney Powell: Denounced her own argument.
Trump lawyer Lin Wood: Completely delusional.

Funny, I can't even name a lawyer for Barack Obama or Joe Biden.

Mostly unrelated and I'm not his agent Grin but if you're interested...

The Recount @therecount

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) calls Biden’s speech “boring, but radical” and complains the president has “tried to tweet nothing notable” while in office. t.co/u7RCCoiOLt

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/04/2021 21:21

I did like someone on that thread calling him "Snooze Cruz".

Roussette · 30/04/2021 07:29

'Snooze Cruz' will make up for 'Sleepy Joe' when it's obvious Joe is anything but.
There is a lot of positivity about his Presidency so far.

What is interesting is the low number of people who watched the SOTU by Biden. Just over 11M.
Yet Trump's was 37M.

But isn't that because we all watched Trump's carcrash multi lie me me me addresses in horrific fascination.
Yet... with Biden people know they are in safe hands.

As we've said on these threads, which are no longer fast moving... we want politics boring again because we know that means everything is working like it should.

I want it for the UK now Grin

Lweji · 30/04/2021 07:49

Yes. I didn't watch Biden's and don't intend to. I didn't expect anything surprising, particularly controversial or WW3, and I'm reassured post event.

Any chances of a virtual White House Correspondents Dinner, though?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 30/04/2021 08:15

I didn't watch all of Biden's speech as I anticipated the content and the reporting of it would be, on the whole, (this is politics after all) truthful and accurate.

The former guy's shenanigans up to the 100 days marker were already horrifyingly unlawful and unethical and the press weren't calling him out on the lies and we were still waiting for the "adults" to appear. I watched that "speech" to confirm my view of him was completely justified and didn't need to change.

I hope there are many Biden speeches to come that I don't "need" to watch! Grin

Meanwhile Rudy is trying to act like it's all just a walk in the park.

Tucker Carlson’s conspiracy-obsessed Giuliani interview: not for the faint hearted.
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/apr/29/rudy-giuliani-tucker-carlson-interview-fox-news?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

A split screen of Carlson and Giuliani was not for the faint hearted. The former maintained his notorious expression, eyebrows furrowed, mouth open just enough to catch a fly. Giuliani, in suit and tie with white handkerchief in top pocket, was in his office, a bald eagle model and books including his own on display. Wearing a ring on his little finger, he played nervously with his spectacles.

What the former New York mayor turned legal hatchet man for Trump had to say didn’t make much sense, but left viewers with the notion that somehow it was all Hunter’s fault, so in that sense it was a great success. Such was the fixation that at one point Giuliani even said “Hunter” rather than “Tucker” by mistake.
