I keep potatoes in the fridge

Just that. Potatoes go in fridge. They stay fresh for longer. Don't know anyone else who does this. (Eggs room temp).

I do.
Only because it makes sense to keep all the fresh food together.

mogtheexcellent · 05/04/2021 17:33

I do. No room anywhere else. Not sure about freshness.

FishyFriday · 05/04/2021 17:34

I do too. They stay fresh much longer in there than in the cupboard.

BlueSuffragette · 05/04/2021 17:36

I do, but only when I've got a few left from the bag. Otherwise they stay in a cupboard with the plastic bag ripped open so they don't get sweaty.

Tangledtresses · 05/04/2021 17:37

I keep mine in the cupboard under the sink, it's cold and dark

Lockheart · 05/04/2021 17:43

Good for you?

PrelovedWithValue · 05/04/2021 17:44

I don't. There's not enough room when I've done my shopping, and I'm not going to move them after a couple of days.

Karwomannghia · 05/04/2021 17:45

I do too. I don’t know why people are funny about putting things in a fridge. It’s basically a cold dark place!

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 05/04/2021 17:45

OK, I know lockdown is boring but have you really been reduced to canvassing people you know on where they keep their potatoes?

CaptainHammer · 05/04/2021 17:45

Great

LacyEdge · 05/04/2021 17:47

I do this. It keeps them fresh for ages, and it’s dark. Win-win

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 05/04/2021 17:49

I do. They last ages. We don’t eat that many of them so half the bag would go off before they were eaten if they weren’t kept in the fridge.

GintyMcGinty · 05/04/2021 17:49

I do

They definitely keep better there.

Exhausted4ever · 05/04/2021 17:49

I do too keeps them fresher for longer

BillyIsMyBunny · 05/04/2021 17:49

I keep small/ new potatoes in the fridge. I don’t always keep larger varieties in the fridge simply because I don’t tend to have room for them. I didn’t think keeping potatoes in the fridge was particularly unusual? I see them like carrots/ apples etc; keep well both in and out of the fridge.

HugoTheKitten · 05/04/2021 17:49

I do. They last forever.

Tianatiers · 05/04/2021 17:50

It's really bad to keep potatoes in the fridge... I'll try and find a link.
Keep them in a cool dark place but not a fridge.

Apileofballyhoo · 05/04/2021 17:52

I buy 5kg bags and sometimes 10kg bags, often not brushed or washed. House is too warm for them really though. Big bags go on the shed in winter or stay in the boot of the car. I keep carrots and parsnips in the fridge. And eggs sometimes.

Tianatiers · 05/04/2021 17:56

Eggs should ideally be kept in the fridge, they last longer. I recently found out that cucumbers shouldn't be kept in the fridge which was a revelation to me, they last so much longer kept at room temp and taste better.

Geordieoldgirl · 05/04/2021 17:58

Mine are in a potato bag in the cupboard as I always thought they were meant to be stored in a cool, dry, place out of daylight, but not in the fridge. But if it works, why not, as mine don’t last very long anyway despite the storage. But I do know that you shouldn’t eat green ones, or any green parts because they are poisonous.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/04/2021 18:00

@Karwomannghia

I do too. I don’t know why people are funny about putting things in a fridge. It’s basically a cold dark place!
But it's not dark! There's a light in there!!
Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 05/04/2021 18:00

If I put potatoes in a cupboard they tend to grow roots because I forget them. Whereas in the fridge they stare at me every time I open it.

bootolou · 05/04/2021 18:06

WHAT? Grin

Divebar2021 · 05/04/2021 18:06

Well “ love potatoes.co.uk” says it’s not recommended
