It's doing my head - and my scrolling finger - in.

OP posts:

I find it quite helpful.

Dinkydody · 05/04/2021 18:03

@PurpleWh1teGreen

There's no facility on Mumsnet to like posts though.

Sometimes - actually frequently- a previous posters says what I want to say, but so much more eloquently.

This Grin

Had no idea the dailymail has a view on the Like button. I just don't like what it does to people from both the negative and positive side. I got that from my time on social media.

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 05/04/2021 18:03

@Sparklingbrook

Oh no. People not using MN as other posters want them to is a big problem this week. Sad
This ^

Mumsnet gets more like the Daily Mail everyday Grin

@seashells11

There's nothing wrong with a "like" button. The Daily Mail have made people snobbish about it. Like it's beneath us Grin
It's not just the Daily Mail that has a Like button though apparently. ALL other websites have them so MN needs to be the same as them for some reason. Not sure why that is.

Maybe we can go the whole way and have tickers etc like on another parenting website. And the ability to block posters like on FB?

EarringsandLipstick · 05/04/2021 18:03

It is a lighthearted thread but you're being precious.

Ffs! How am I?

I replied simply saying I disagreed, like many others. (And others agreed with you, so that's fine).

You've posted 3 snippy replies to me, where am I being precious?!?

Saying 'that's your problem, not mine' is a crappy, mean-spirited reply. Cop on.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 05/04/2021 18:04

Why isn't this in site stuff though?

whenthebellsring · 05/04/2021 18:04

...and other chat forums with it.

Well, you're certainly demonstrating this with your series of replies to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really not this. It isn't that bad. Yet.

Christ, I hope not.
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 05/04/2021 18:06

@PerspicaciousGreen

Personally, it winds me up when people "quote" someone by putting a bit of the post in bold but don't @ their username as well. I've missed people replying to me because I didn't get a notification and I've accidentally scrolled past a bit of holding in a post
I rarely @ people - only ever do it in a context where I really want to be supportive to someone - out of courtesy and on assumption that the poster will read that post if they're following the thread. I've also seen plenty of objections from people who don't appreciate being tagged.

The one facility I'd love to see MN remove is the pointless, irritating, usually PA strikethrough feature. You never see this on other sites and with good reason. Then again, it's never occurred to me to demand other people stop doing it because it gets on my tits.

Fembot123 · 05/04/2021 18:08

I certainly don’t know how to do anything like strike through 😂

whenthebellsring · 05/04/2021 18:09

Hey! Now, what's wrong with the beautiful strikethrough? What's that ever done to you?

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 18:10

Another thing that has got people all stressy this week is the use of 'DH/DD etc. It's just not on apparently. They can't work out what is being said because of the twee acronyms it seems. it's a HUGE problem. Who knew?

Love the strikethrough, and also I want the Hmm face for my texts.

fembot Without the spaces between the dashes and the word will give you a strikethrough when it posts.Smile
CateTown · 05/04/2021 18:12

Ooh Earrings - it won't let me quote your post at 18.04. Wonder if my quoting privileges have been revoked for being snippy?

OP posts:
LizzieMacQueen · 05/04/2021 18:12

@DrSbaitso

If we had a "like" button, it wouldn't be necessary.
Agreed. I don't know if people realise that quoting a PP is not the same as tagging. Often folk quote with a follow up question which without the @ is unlikely to get a response.

BottleFlipper · 05/04/2021 18:12

@CateTown

It adds nothing to the conversation to just type This.
It does though. It's just a way of saying "I strongly agree...." and not repeating the same points as the post and therefore in some cases helps the OP gauge the sense of the replies. As mentioned upthread, it won't change without the introduction of a "like" function.
Fembot123 · 05/04/2021 18:13
