It's doing my head - and my scrolling finger - in.

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 05/04/2021 17:26

I don’t know how to highlight just a part of posts like some of you do

Fembot on your phone, in the app, just select the relevant text, then copy & paste it into a new post. Use * at the start & end of the block of text to bold it.

Pretty much the same on the web version ie using a laptop, except you'll be creating a preview that you can check before posting.

gutinstinctlpl · 05/04/2021 17:26

And definitely that

whenthebellsring · 05/04/2021 17:27

@PolarnOPirate

I see your point but it’s also infuriating when someone on page 10 says ‘what *@username* said’ ...... I’m not going to search 10 pages of usernames to see what they agree with.
This!

I can't see any good reason for posters to quote a loong opening post mid-thread, it's really annoying Smile.

But I disagree in that sometimes a post is that good (and perhaps being overlooked) that a 'this' is appropriate.

And sod that you are not allowed to moan about posting styles. Everybody moans on MN.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 17:27

Although I agree it's obnoxious to quote a long post.

What's the cut off re longness of post?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/04/2021 17:28

@CateTown

It adds nothing to the conversation to just type This.
Yes it does. It shows someone else hold this view as well.

..and it's MUCH better than someone saying I agree with Fred. Who may have posted anywhere in the previous 900 posts.

It IS a bit annoying when they quote the original post fir absolutely NO reason.

Not this.
whenthebellsring · 05/04/2021 17:28

@SmidgenofaPigeon

I love being quoted. Are you sad you don’t get quoted, OP?
^^ with bells on!
EarringsandLipstick · 05/04/2021 17:28

Well you're wrong.

This is probably meant humorously, but it's not coming across that way, tbh.

Geamhradh · 05/04/2021 17:29

@OlympicProcrastinator

Oh no. People not using MN as other posters want them to is a big problem this week.

This

This. This. Grin
cherry2727 · 05/04/2021 17:29

Then the OP won't see where the consensus lies, which is presumably why they posted?

This!

Definitely this

Everybody moans on MN

This. It's been moany week. Personally I want those Zombie threads sorted, I want AIBUs to actually have an AIBU and not be in there 'for traffic' and I really don't want a Like button. But TBF that's not just this week actually. Grin

I don't care about quoted posts and 'this' though.

CateTown · 05/04/2021 17:30

Clearly there are thousands of lurkers nodding sagely at everything I type on this thread and I thank them for their restraint in not quoting me and typing This.

OP posts:
whenthebellsring · 05/04/2021 17:32

@CateTown

You don't need to signal your agreement with a pp if you have nothing to add to the conversation. You can just nod sagely.
This...

...is the same argument for a "Like" button. We don't need it. Grin

Geamhradh · 05/04/2021 17:32

"I can't see any good reason for posters to quote a loong opening post mid-thread, it's really annoying"

Because the person who does it wants the OP to know that they have received a direct reply to what they wrote? The OP receives a notification that in the middle of a thread someone has referred directly to the point they initially made?

My phone will only let me copy and paste one word at a time 😁

D'yer know what annoys me? When the very first reply re-quotes the^^ whole OP.
We know what you're replying to, dickhead! You're the only sodding poster!!

I don't care about quoted posts and 'this' though.

I want GFs sent to their own special place in hell along with creative writers who are aiming for self-publication (via Classics obvs) and nasty threads started to show posters' superiority with language use. (Though tbf, those tend to show the opposite after a while) Shall we start our own stompyfooty "my way is right" thread, Sparks?

Oh and I agree with you as well @Geamhradh but you've got a quote in your post so I can't quote you.

Very much this.

Giantrooster · 05/04/2021 17:38

I would like to complain that I can't quote an already quoted post. What kind of fuckery is that?

So many posts on this thread i could have quoted, if I wasn't too lazy Grin.
