To be getting fed up with "boarders"

...which are not children sleeping in school dorms rather than going home at the end of the school day; but the boundaries between countries, the correct word for which is borders. Borders!!!! Anyone else sick of boarders?

@Glitterblue

Someone on my Facebook always writes "carnt" 🤯 Too many animals are malting, and I "carnt" stand the way people put an extra r into words like drawing - it's not drawring! And it's not JessicaRennis and the dog food is not BellaRand Duke! They even sing about Bellarand Duke on the advert and it makes me shout at the TV 😂

I once (goadily Blush) posted on Facebook 'there's no such word as carnt' and got two people telling me there was. I resisted the urge to tell them why they were wrong Grin

Wander / wonder. Far too many people wander what they should have for tea, or go out for a nice wonder with the kids.

GameofPhones · 05/04/2021 13:42

Well I think this arguement will be lost. Best get some piece of mind by haveing fun with it, as we are doing hear.

Geamhradh · 05/04/2021 13:42

@Pottedpalm

‘Accept’ as in ‘don’t penalise’? Doesn't make it correct. They accept ‘eyesossiles’ instead of ‘isosceles, but that’s not correct either.
No, of course not. American spelling is recognised as correct.
Trulyatraditionalman · 05/04/2021 13:44

"He's" instead of "his"

Eg. "Stuart collected he's coat"

I see that ALL THE TIME on Facebook.

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 05/04/2021 13:46

Myself. Misuse of myself. 'Myself and the lady'. No.

Trulyatraditionalman · 05/04/2021 13:47

Also, "Exited" instead of "Excited".

Eg. "I'm so exited to see you!"

GameofPhones · 05/04/2021 13:48

Peice of mind, even.

ViciousJackdaw · 05/04/2021 14:36

I'd like to ask about bring and take.

'I need to bring DD to school now'. Doesn't look right. Is it? Shouldn't it be 'take'?

Geamhradh · 05/04/2021 14:42

Some regional dialects use "bring" and "take" indiscriminately. My northern Irish friend would say "I need to bring him to the airport"

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2021 14:43

You take them to school and bring them back.
FrankButchersDickieBow · 05/04/2021 14:49

Well I think you're all acting like Pre Maddona's 😁

Londonmummy66 · 05/04/2021 14:55

I'm also having a big problem with boarders. They are lounging around in their PJs all day, eating me out of house and home and hogging all the wifi.

sueelleker · 05/04/2021 14:55

@Mucklemore

But I'm so grateful we don't have to listen to "bregsit" all the time.

I used to find myself screaming at the radio - there's no fucking G morons.

And the number of newsreaders I've heard recently, talking about 'medcines'!
ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2021 15:06

@OnthebanksoftheLac

Discrete and discreet being used incorrectly is happening more frequently. I saw discrete used on an upmarket estate agent's website the other day. Apparently they offered a discrete service to clients.
Did they only sell detached houses?Grin
Geamhradh · 05/04/2021 15:07

ˈmed(ə)s(ə)n
The first schwa between the brackets shows the syllable elision. Quite common (and correct) in unstressed syllables (any syllable containing a schwa being, by definition, unstressed)

excelledyourself · 05/04/2021 15:11

I thought it couldn't get any worse than 'alot', but more and more, I see:

allot
alittle
afew
abit

All of which make me irrationally furious.

I saw a flooring business post on Instagram yesterday. It contained use of 'allot', plus incorrect use of 'there' and 'your'.

OnthebanksoftheLac · 05/04/2021 15:18

Grin The other one I've seen recently is 'r' instead of our. For example "I saw r David yesterday". Is that just text speak or are people spelling our 'r'?
ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2021 15:23

That looks like txt spk, similar to using r for 'are'. The trouble will come if idiots then start mixing up 'our' and 'are' I suppose.

Missdread · 05/04/2021 15:33

"I'm paying X for my gas and electric" gives me the rage. ELECTRICITY!

Missdread · 05/04/2021 15:34

Or sometimes even just " gas and lectric" 🙈
