Just saw Easter Parade is on today. Would love to try watching some old films but not sure I'd like them. Which ones are good for novices like me?

Not old old but Regarding Henry. From 1991 with Harrison Ford. I went to see it at the cinema as I had a night off and that looked like the only decent film. I absolutely loved it. I left in floods of happy tears... Its firmly in my Top 5 films.

There was a good one on Talking Pictures today called 'The Smallest Show on Earth' that I've never seen before. A young couple (Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers) inherit a small cinema called the Bijou but find its falling down and has an Interesting range of staff . Great cast including Margaret Rutherford and Peter Sellers in supporting roles.

Highly recommended if it's on their schedule again.

Alert - Penny Serenade is on Talking Pictures at 1am this morning! Be warned it's an incredibly moving and sad film but well worth watching. Stars Irene Dunne and Cary Grant as a married couple with big dreams, unexpected joys and unexpected sadness.

Those little shoes!

You have just reminded me of a film I didn't mention, but absolutely love;

The Awful Truth, with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne as a divorcing couple. It is fabulous!

Shadow of a Doubt starring Theresa Wright and Joseph Cotton. Fine performances, a genuinely creepy film, a wonderful reassuring small town atmosphere.
