Just saw Easter Parade is on today. Would love to try watching some old films but not sure I'd like them. Which ones are good for novices like me?

American in Paris and Singing in the Rain for the dancing

This Happy Breed. A 1940s film about two families living next door to each other and their lives. I've watched it quite a few times and have it recorded so I can watch it whenever I like.

It has John Mills and Celia Johnson in it.

@CoolCatTaco

All About Eve, Kind Hearts and Coronets, 12 Angry Men, Sabrina.
Oh I love Kind Hearts and Coronets, Alec Guiness is amazing. The Robe, Richard Burton, was a wonderful film, the first film made in Cinemascope if you're a pub quiz fan! I have had a new Sky box and lost it, mortified. Not as old as most mentioned but I love Trading Places, a very clever film. Becket, Burton and O'Toole, was fantastic, as was The Lion in WInter, O'Toole as Henry II. We were late getting to the cinema for Lion in WInter so were sitting almost on the front row, back in the day when the screen was very close to the audience. O'Toole walked across the screen and stamped, almost on my head in seemed, I jumped a mile!

@Pieceofpurplesky

Many of the above but Calamity Jane and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers are my favourite musicals.

A Taste of Honey, Look Back in Anger (Richard Burton in that is beautiful) and Breakfast at Tiffany's

Be honest, Burton was beautiful in everything, I recall sobbing buckets when he died. The Sandpiper was a wonderful, very under-rated, film.
