Just saw Easter Parade is on today. Would love to try watching some old films but not sure I'd like them. Which ones are good for novices like me?

Lots have already been mentioned that I love but another classic is The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It's my favourite film ever since my Dad let me watch it many years ago when I was about 12. Four years ago I finally got to Cong in Co Mayo where a lot of it was filmed. Loved every magical minute of being there !

I really like the Hitchcock film Marnie. No idea why as it’s not sci fi or horror. But it’s beautifully shot and intriguing.

Cocolapew · 05/04/2021 00:05

Any Doris Day film, she was wonderful.
Imitation of Life, you'll need tissues.

FunTimes2020 · 05/04/2021 00:07

Pillow Talk with the gorgeous Rock Hudson 💞

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 05/04/2021 00:08

Another die-hard Doris Day fan here. Pretty much anything the woman did was simply magical. I also like film noir and Hitchcock, old silent cinema, expressionism etc, plus classical early Hollywood: Citizen Kane etc.

Not sure whether vintage 80s horror counts as 'old'. But the nostalgia is strong for me!

Its lovely that a few PPs like the old Swallows and Amazons film. I also love the vintage Secret Garden and The Railway Children, despite its sentimentality.

Ok I'm going to admit it. The Sound of Music. I'll get me coat.

Champ was another tearful film.
On a lighter note labyrinth and never ending story.
