Is this weird or am I a slattern

I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

@DropDTuning

I wash them separately at 60 and wash clothes at 40 or 30.
Same here
Supersimkin2 · 05/04/2021 21:37

It’s quite difficult to catch diseases from clothes cos fabric isn’t a stable enough surface to keep germs alive.

Except for bed linen/uniforms around sick people that a) may have been drenched in germs b) could transfer to another patient.

SpeedRunParent · 05/04/2021 21:37

I'm definitely in the slattern group too. If I happen to have a towel wash ready to go then I'll sling them in on 60 but I happily put a white towel in with my white washing if it needs topping up, or a white tea towel. Same with coloured towels in the colour wash. We haven't dyed yet either.
I do use dettol style laundry cleanser quite frequently and I don't use fabric conditioner much.

Supersimkin2 · 05/04/2021 21:39

Exception: impetigo, which is very catching and can be caused by not washing self or garments enough.

Spread by, surely? Not caused by.
happytoday73 · 05/04/2021 21:44

I wash everything together at 40.....no conditioner either...
Towels and tea towels are used to dry clean items/body...
Wash my hands regularly and avoid licking clothes just in case😂

Ifeelsuchafool · 05/04/2021 21:58

Towels and tea towels go on a 90 degree wash. As do knickers (but not together with tea towels, though I might pop a towel in with them). Since Covid, more of my washing goes on at 90 or 60. I do care about the planet but I don't fancy a ventilator. Blush

blueshoes · 05/04/2021 22:03

Everything thrown together. Life's too short and somehow still alive.

blueshoes · 05/04/2021 22:06

And to anyone who thinks otherwise - it is pretty basic science. Hot water (60 degrees) kills germs. 40 doesn’t. It just gives them all a lovely bath together. How nice to share all the grime from your pants with the cloths you use to wipe your dinner plates and kitchen surfaces with

Why do we need to kill germs? That is what a immune system is for. An immune system needs a proper work out to stay tip top.

I don't mean we have to wallow in dirt. But a few germs is not going to kill you, actually makes you stronger.

NoseOfJericho · 05/04/2021 22:07

Depending on the colours, I will wash tea towels in with other stuff.

However, tee towels tend to be covered in mud and are put in with golf clothes and socks etc. Or on their own.

Strugglingtodomybest · 05/04/2021 22:11

I just stick everything in together on 40 here. I'm definitely a slattern and proud of it Grin

Yet no one ever dies, or even get the slightest bit unwell from wearing clothes washed with dish towels. I wonder why that is?

Towels go on the 60 degree wash with allergy setting (more rinsing) plus the extra water button is pressed. I don't always add detergent either because watching the window shows that they or the machine has retained enough detergent to make a lot of suds because the machine doesn't rinse properly.

Washing underwear on 90 is going to destroy it quickly. Underwear only goes in with other clothes of a similar colour, not with tea towels.

I do have a lot of tea towels and often keep them until almost all used up and put them in a hot wash with no other items, I like to see them all lined up on the washing line. (I know, but I have so few pleasures in life).

Ivy455 · 05/04/2021 22:22

I chuck everything in together!

MNWorldisCrazy · 05/04/2021 22:22

So clothes which touch park benches, brush past other public/outdoor places are ok but not tea towels which wipes up spilt tea and the odd splash of food?! Confused

MissJeanLouise · 05/04/2021 22:24

Clothes at 40 but all in together, not separated into darks/lights (apart from very occasionally to brighten up my son’s white tops with a bio wash - normally everything non-bio due to daughter’s eczema).
Towels/tea towels and bedding on 60.
No fabric softener on anything due to aforementioned eczema.
We are a larger household though, with the washer on 2/3 times a day, so there’s usually enough to fill the load with one kind or another.

MNWorldisCrazy · 05/04/2021 22:25

@DaphneDuBois

Sling a capful of Dettol laundry cleanser in and it will stop this disagreement. It kills 99.9% of germs.
Or just use disinfectant - hell of a lot cheaper! 🤣🙄 It even gives directions for how much to use on the back of the bottle! Yes, I do mean bog standard pine disinfectant!
hellomom · 05/04/2021 22:25

I thought things like underwear and bedding should be washed at a higher temperature, that is what I do, washed at minimum 60, sometimes 90. I wash my floor cloths separate. Can't imagine doing it with with my clothes. I have a towel I use to dry my hands in the kitchen, that is fine to go in with a normal wash. Any other cloths in the kitchen have a separate wash.

LavenderEast · 05/04/2021 22:26

Oh dear, I thought this was normal, each day when I've used my teatowel I bung it in the washing machine and when I have a full load of washing pop it in with the accumulated tea towels and wash at 60c, (all laundry is done at 60c as default setting on washer)

MNWorldisCrazy · 05/04/2021 22:29

Regardless, none of these high temps or Dettol laundry cleanser is necessary because SOAP & WATER KILLS BACTERIA & GERMS!!!

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣🙄

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2021 22:31

I wouldn't put tea towels in with clothes but only because I like to do them on a hot wash - they go in with towels. But I don't think it would kill you if you did.

Soontobe60 · 05/04/2021 22:32

I like the dettol laundry cleanser because it slightly softens the clothes, and also seems to stop the build up of smelly gunk in my machine

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2021 22:33

I wash them separately, mostly because I do them hotter, and I don’t use softener with them (they, and towels, dry better without it).
This too - I also don't use softener with towels and tea towels.

converseandjeans · 05/04/2021 22:38

I wash clothes and towels/tea towels separately. I might be a bit OCD but I'm with your DH and wouldn't wash undies in same wash as tea towels 🤷🏻‍♀️

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2021 22:46

I separate things as:
Colours - 40
Whites - 40
Pastels - 40
Bedding - 60
Darks -40
Towels/Tea Towels/Microfibre wiping up cloths 60 (no conditioner)
Floor mats - 40 (no conditioner)
Dog bed - 40 (no conditioner)
