Is this weird or am I a slattern

I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

@alsohuman if it all comes out clean what's the difference? All goes on a 40 wash (cant wash the nappies hotter as it wrecks them) and its only breastmilk nappies. I cant see the issue but I know most people would find it gross 🤣

Biscuitybiscuit · 05/04/2021 18:56

I would wash them separately, the tea towels on a hotter wash but my DP usually does the washing all in together on a 40c so I compromise, life is too short.

Shrivelled · 05/04/2021 18:56

@ShinyGreenElephant I’m pretty sure most reusable nappies need to be washed at 60 C. And the machine cleaned and run very hot and empty now and again. Once your baby gets onto to solids, there’s no way 40 C is going to cut it.

AliceMcK · 05/04/2021 19:00

I’m with your husband. I never wash tea towels in with normal clothes. The whole point of tea towels is to wipe dishes, I dont want to wipe my dishes with something that’s been washed with mine or anyone’s else’s shitty underwear. All sorts of shit particles fly out of a toilet onto underwear without you knowing. Not everything gets killed in a normal wash cycles. Things like thrush will not be killed off with normal washing powder. As someone who continually caught thrush when I was younger from my mother who constantly had it I refuse to was my children’s clothes with my underwear. Even though I’ve only had it once since leaving home, I will not mix adult and childrens underwear ever. And I certainly won’t mix tea towels with underwear. At a push I will wash them with other towels if they are going on a very hot wash but as a rule I wash things separately. Tea towels together, bath towels together, underwear together, jeans together and so on...

GroovyPeanut · 05/04/2021 19:03

I was bedding, towels, teatowels, sports socks and undies on 60
Clothes 40
I could care less either way if I'm a slattern 😊

Shrivelled · 05/04/2021 19:03

Sorry OP but YABVU. A man that understands the different functions of a washing machine is something to be celebrated not mocked.

GroovyPeanut · 05/04/2021 19:03

*wash

Fluffmum · 05/04/2021 19:04

Any type of towel needs a 60 wash

AbsolutelyPatsy · 05/04/2021 19:05

Bloody bell that is really quite extreme! Confused
TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 05/04/2021 19:10

Happily self-confessed slattern here! Everything goes in at 30 degrees, I like to bung towels in separately in a small load so they fluff up, and never use fabric softener as it makes my skin flare up. Tea towels get done with whatever else there is! They’re only really used for drying hands in the kitchen anyway, and I stick them on the radiator to dry, then back on the oven ready to use. Changed weekly. Dettol laundry cleaner if there’s been an ‘accident’ (child or pet wee). Lights and darks separate. I think I own an iron but no idea where it is as I never use it. Life is too short! Everything always smells clean and fresh and no one has been made ill and frankly, what more does one want?!

pam290358 · 05/04/2021 19:14

The term ‘slattern’ got me thinking about older terminology. Does anyone know what a ‘scrubber’ was ? I’m guessing nothing to do with laundry ?!!!

Shortiemyboo · 05/04/2021 19:15

Tell your partner to do the washingConfused

ancientgran · 05/04/2021 19:22

I wash them together, my DH uses a cotton hanky, revolting but he won't use tissues, so I won't wash them. The idea of snotty hanky in with my clothes or t towels is too horrible to contemplate so he does his washing, I do mine plus towels, bed clothes etc.

Alsohuman · 05/04/2021 19:26

only breastmilk nappies

Shit is shit. I find it revolting but I’m never going to eat in your house so 🤷‍♀️

Mine specifically stated not to wash above 40°C.

skwish · 05/04/2021 19:33

Ugh. Can’t bear these sorts of posts. Especially in the midst of a bloody pandemic! All of the following separately on 60: tea towels, bath towels, kids’ underwear, our underwear. Normal clothes on 30 or 40 with laundry anti bac, depending on fabric type/instructions. Cannot understand why anyone would wash their knickers with their tea towels Confused. So grim!

Also can’t bear it when people fill a sink with soapy water, then wash their dishes all at once, and then leave it all to dry without rinsing. Gross.

YourCakesAreShit · 05/04/2021 19:34

I get the breastmilk nappy thing.

I grew the baby. I then made the only food that the baby that grew inside my body eats. I struggled to find breastmilk poo particularly gross, tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pigtailsandall · 05/04/2021 19:41

I'm still reading this thread, still in awe of how full people's laundry baskets are, how much stuff they have or how empty they run their washing machines if everything is separated by use. I go for a run most days; that stuff gets a light 30 degree wash because theres no dirt on it, just sweat which comes off easy enough. My work dresses and tops ditto.
Nappies, towels, bedding, toddler clothes and my underwear all go in at 40. I do a pre-rinse cycle on nappies so the poop comes off but that's it. Much more ecological and it's always clean when it comes out. We're all very healthy Grin

You think mixing families undies in a wash casuals infection/spread of disease?

I've always washed my tea towels with towels and or bedding on a 60 degree wash. However I still think what you do is fine really.

dementedpixie · 05/04/2021 19:53

I'm sure the nappies aren't covered in shit as they are usually used with a liner which contains the majority of poo and is disposed of before the nappies are washed.

The pandemic isn't affected by how people are washing their pants!

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 05/04/2021 19:55

If he's that worried he could chuck in some napisan to kill the bugs ( I don't, I do the same as you)
