Is this weird or am I a slattern

I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

I wash everything at 30 unless it's really dirty. I do generally try to keep clothes and towels/flannels/cloths/bedlinen separate. Don't really know why! I just prefer to wash like with like. I doubt it matters, it's all coming out clean.

Clearaschristal · 05/04/2021 20:17

Yep, I'm a slattern too!!!

Lordamighty · 05/04/2021 20:18

Tea towels get washed with towels at 60C here, no fabric softener, tumble dried.

ElMacchiato · 05/04/2021 20:22

I wash everything at 40°c .
I know some people swear by doing some things at 60, but I personally think there is no scientific reason for it.

Wide · 05/04/2021 20:23

Tea towels and underwear no! The dirt from the underwear will mix in the water that is washing your towels eww

Alsohuman · 05/04/2021 20:26

@YourCakesAreShit

I get the breastmilk nappy thing.

I grew the baby. I then made the only food that the baby that grew inside my body eats. I struggled to find breastmilk poo particularly gross, tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

We all feel like that about our own babies. It’s still disgusting for anyone who isn’t you.
KJaggard1 · 05/04/2021 20:26

40 degree washes with ordinary detergent don’t kill thrush as one example. Depends if you mind potentially drying your dishes with cloths washed like that. I mean it won’t kill anyone but ...

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2021 20:37

Our tea towels are usually on the manky side by the time I get around to changing them - they get shoved in the cupboard under the sink and when there are enough I do a hot wash just for them. Often with an equally manky oven glove, too.,

I don’t think I’d put them in with underwear but I wouldn’t judge anyone who did - I’m sure nobody’s ever died as a result.

birdglasspen · 05/04/2021 20:38

If your child has had an accident in trousers, don't leave them in the machine for 2 days then wash everything with them at 60 degrees ...twice.... had to do a 3rd wash to get rid of the strange smell... Oh my god you wash towels every 3-4 days and a dishcloth after one day, you are not a slattern! I don't want to think of a word for my washing practices!!

Frogartist · 05/04/2021 20:47

Btw,what is a "hot wash"? 60C? 90C? 95C?

MitheringSunday · 05/04/2021 20:48

Hot wash is 60. 95 is boil wash, surely?

Tea towels and underwear together fine IMO, but only at 60. Wouldn't want to do either at 40 on a regular basis, tbh.

kennycat · 05/04/2021 20:53

Yep, me too. Everything goes in together and I am not only still here to tell the tale, I am almost never ill and neither is anyone in my household. I am tempting fate but nobody here has had anything so much as a cold for at least 3 years so I can only conclude that being a slattern is actually very good for your health. You crack on safe in that knowledge OP.

SmashedAvocado · 05/04/2021 20:54

Tea towels go in with towels at 60c

Underwear on it’s own at 60c

Bedding at 60c

Everything else 30/40c

winniestone37 · 05/04/2021 20:58

Yeah there will be a ton of bacteria on tea towels and they need to be washed with similar at 60 and towels on their own at 60.World won’t end if you don’t 🤷‍♀️

Mrsmadevans · 05/04/2021 21:00

Bedding , underwear, tea towels , towels all go on a 60 wash here . Other clothes 30 .

skwish · 05/04/2021 21:02

Pandemic is very much affected by people’s general attitude to hygiene! If you’re prepared to engage in these dirty practices, then I think it’s reasonable to wonder about your adherence to general sanitising, handwashing and mask hygiene.

And to anyone who thinks otherwise - it is pretty basic science. Hot water (60 degrees) kills germs. 40 doesn’t. It just gives them all a lovely bath together. How nice to share all the grime from your pants with the cloths you use to wipe your dinner plates and kitchen surfaces with 🤮

ImAlrightThanx · 05/04/2021 21:02

I do wonder how come people cope outside of their sterile bubble!
My friends mum used to dry up with a dirty T-Shirt from the washing basket... now that is grim!

Me too. My quick wash is 40 degrees and 20 minutes. A 60 degree wash takes 2 hours.

Not my mum- my friends! My own mother would be horrified at the very idea. And I never ate or drank at my friends house after I saw that!

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/04/2021 21:07

Oh, sorry Blush

wishywashywoowoo70 · 05/04/2021 21:10

I enjoy being a slattern.

I wash everything on a fast wash at 30'
Sometimes I mix colours and lights when I'm oissed off too.
If I'm really annoyed I put the designer labels and sports kit in the dryer too

Bertiebiscuit · 05/04/2021 21:10

If he isn't offering to do the washing I'd personally tell him to FRO p s normal people bung it all in together

FedNlanders · 05/04/2021 21:25

Some attitudes are ridiculous Easter Grin

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 05/04/2021 21:25

@ancientgran

I wash them together, my DH uses a cotton hanky, revolting but he won't use tissues, so I won't wash them. The idea of snotty hanky in with my clothes or t towels is too horrible to contemplate so he does his washing, I do mine plus towels, bed clothes etc.
I’m with you! It’s eco friendly so yay, but also euww!
