AIBU to *not* eat the egg?!

So on Thursday afternoon we got in after a half term day out (walking) and a parcel was waiting on my porch.
It was addressed to ‘The Lazydoll Family’ with a typed label and delivered first class Royal Mail.
Assuming it was an Easter gift it sat in the lounge until today when I thought it was probably wrapped inside so should open it so I could thank the sender and say we’d ‘unwrap’ tomorrow.
Inside was an Easter egg.
Just in its box.
No message.
No card.
No idea where or who it’s from.
I’ve messaged all the usual suspects.
Nada.
We are a family of 5.
4 of them are happy to share the egg.
I cannot do this if I DON’T KNOW WHO IT’S FROM?!?!
Eat the egg?
Don’t eat the egg?
That is the question!!!!
Help prevent an Easter family feud (it IS a G&B Organic Milk).....

This is by far the craziest thread I’ve read on MN!

Laced with rat poison... Hmm seriously...

Otherwise, in 24 hours time, you'll all be sat round the dining table and a Lindt Bunny will suddenly burst forth from someone's chest and go on the rampage.

Grin. Loved this!!!!

I’m not sure what the G & B stands for, don’t think Cadbury do organic?

Don't watch so many (or read) thrillers on television, first. UNLESS a member of your family is a very public personality, OR unless you are aware of someone who may feel that a family member has harmed them in a serious way, the chances of this being a problem are infinitesimal. Random poisonings of totally innocent people are one of the most rare occurrences that there are...with the exception of terrorist attacks, in which case it would be a multitude of people (underground rail, water supply, etc).

Eat the egg, don't eat it, replace it or don't...but the chances that it has been tampered with are so slight (unless one of the above applies) as to be nonexistent.

Green & Blacks ??

People always think that Halloween candy might be poisoned/tainted.

So it might be a serial killer trying to strike out and make a name for himself. Just saying.

The Easter Bunny killer... spoken in low ominous voice "Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the Easter egg hunt..."

Apparently Putin has been voted Russia’s sexiest man. Well hold me down buttercup.

Just putting it out there OP in case you have been dissing the hunkiest man East of Grimsby and are worried in case you think you might have upset the manliest leader ever to have wrestled bears naked.

GuildfordGal · 04/04/2021 01:10

E^aster egg arrives at house

Most people: mm, lovely surprise treat from a friend smile

MN: it's full of rat poison that's been injected in with a tiny syringe shock

I ordered Thornton's eggs for my kids...£3.95 delivery. I don't think I had the option of writing a card. So most likely someone bought the egg for you online, but checked out before they could add a note.

Italiangreyhound · 04/04/2021 01:12

Personally, no, I would not eat it.

"Maybe you can buy a replacement and swap it out?" Someone said back on page one. Even if you cannot get the same egg, just buy another, chuck that one and present everyone with a quarter of the egg (and buy a whole nother one for you for your efforts!)

Inaseagull · 04/04/2021 01:16

No clues from the postmark?

See, my first thought was 100% Putin. He is sexy though, so I need no eggs.
CoRhona · 04/04/2021 01:21

You're all wrong.

Op's DH is having an Easter fling and so that you find out, she has sent you an Easter egg knowing you'll investigate.

Inside the egg you will find incriminating photographs.

I had an overpriced bag of peanut butter chocolate eggs delivered from John Lewis. Tear in the bag. Outraged. Binned cause clearly poisoned.

GuildfordGal · 04/04/2021 01:26

I'd catapult it into the sunset, then fire at it with a machine gun in slow motion, while releasing a raw, agonised and primitive scream into the air.

PopAyetheSailorMam · 04/04/2021 01:26

Is the egg Fabergė inspired ?, does it glow in the dark ?, post marked Salisbury ? Delivered by shirtless dude on horseback ? Was click and collect at Checkpoint Charlie an option on the packaging ? Never would I be so pleased to recieve a sorry we missed you card instead of the goods Grin

I'm not in the UK so I'm not sure about your postal service but would the postage stamp have a postmark that may help you identify where it was posted?

Is that you Angelina?
youshallnotpass9 · 04/04/2021 01:36

If I was going to poison someone, I would use a tiny syringe and just squirt some in without making the packaging look like its been breached. Anything else sounds like amateur hour.

This is just stupid.

You would put the poison on the outside of the foil, knowing you have about a 20% chance of them eating any food from an unknown person.

Something like thallium might do it, so sorry OP you are probably already infected.

DontBeRidiculous · 04/04/2021 01:41

I wouldn't want to eat it if I didn't know who it was from, even though I'd feel certain it was fine. What I'd do is set it aside (hide it) and wait. Maybe someone will ask if you received it, and then you'll know and can have a belated Easter treat.

In the meantime, you may think of a few more people to ask. Or just tell everyone you know the story of the mystery egg and hope that someone claims credit for it.

I was just planning to put a very thin layer of Novichok on the outside.
1forAll74 · 04/04/2021 02:13

It is probably an Easter egg that someone bought six years ago,and put it in a cupboard, and then forgot. and now found it, and thought it had gone funny, but didn't want to waste it, and sent it to you., because you will eat anything ! You will somehow have to trace the sender though.

Budsey · 04/04/2021 02:34

TO THE LAZYDOLL FAMILY ? is that your family name ?or is it the name you use on MN ? a bit weird/creepy don't you think ?............. throw it ....!

SD1978 · 04/04/2021 02:34

I wouldn't. We have Greek neighbours round here- quite a lot. Every Greek Easter there is a bag of biscuits appear on the porch, home made. I always bin them because whichever one leaves them doesn't leave a note. No note, no eat.
