AIBU to *not* eat the egg?!

So on Thursday afternoon we got in after a half term day out (walking) and a parcel was waiting on my porch.
It was addressed to ‘The Lazydoll Family’ with a typed label and delivered first class Royal Mail.
Assuming it was an Easter gift it sat in the lounge until today when I thought it was probably wrapped inside so should open it so I could thank the sender and say we’d ‘unwrap’ tomorrow.
Inside was an Easter egg.
Just in its box.
No message.
No card.
No idea where or who it’s from.
I’ve messaged all the usual suspects.
Nada.
We are a family of 5.
4 of them are happy to share the egg.
I cannot do this if I DON’T KNOW WHO IT’S FROM?!?!
Eat the egg?
Don’t eat the egg?
That is the question!!!!
Help prevent an Easter family feud (it IS a G&B Organic Milk).....

Are you someone rally important OP? A Russian double agent or something? Assuming not it's likely safe to assume the egg hasn't been laced with arsenic.... Could it be from work, or an old friend, or a childs friend or a club they go to?

Easter egg arrives at house

Most people: mm, lovely surprise treat from a friend Smile

MN: it's full of rat poison that's been injected in with a tiny syringe Shock

Or explosives.
GreenSlide · 04/04/2021 00:11

@JesusIsAnyNameFree or that. Maybe that's the storyline of tomorrow nights Line of Duty episode.

Far too realistic for Line of Duty!

Teapotsandtablecloths · 04/04/2021 00:20

Can't wait to see this on crime & investigation.

LazyDoll · 04/04/2021 00:28

Appreciate all your responses so far Easter Smile
To confirm the wrapping is intact - although I concede it could have been pierced with a syringe (I have not checked it THAT closely).
It is not ticking.
I have not thrown it on the porch (husband worried local cats will eat it instead of him).
I think a small impact injury may have occurred to the egg in transit (this portion may go to the smallest child IF we eat it).
We live in a village so all our local friends/groups would just drop things off on our porch not post.
Any of the usual people who post stuff to us have been asked and all are a No.
Curiouser and curiouser....

Leave it alone.

Otherwise, in 24 hours time, you'll all be sat round the dining table and a Lindt Bunny will suddenly burst forth from someone's chest and go on the rampage.

JackieTheFart · 04/04/2021 00:31

I would eat it. I’m not important enough for someone to try and elaborate assassination attempt. Surely you must know it’s impossible to rewrap an Easter egg as neatly as when it comes out of the box? It can’t have been tampered with.

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 00:32

What sort of lives do you people lead?? Don’t eat the Easter egg somebody has sent you, it’s probably laced with rat poison? Confused

GreenSlide · 04/04/2021 00:33

@JesusIsAnyNameFree they could make it more realistic by giving it an acronym. SPEEE - Suspicious and Possibly Explosive Easter Egg? The CHIS has given AC12 intel from the PNC on the SPEEE. ARVs are on the way to OPs PoR.

LazyDoll · 04/04/2021 00:34

Jackie it has a small half moon exposed portion with the foil showing through....it’s not fully sealed Shock

LazyDoll · 04/04/2021 00:35

Oh wow a SPEEE. Are they going to RV outside and get a SITREP prior to forcing entry?! Better prime the kids!!!

Dutypaid · 04/04/2021 00:36

To follow on from TheNestedIf (statement) bursting bunny; maybe it's laced with LSD. I wouldn't eat it unless I was 20.

LazyDoll · 04/04/2021 00:36

Do you think H is involved???

midlifecrash · 04/04/2021 00:37

tried googling poisoned Easter egg in case it is a thing, but you just get pages of stuff about not giving dogs chocolate.

So you can rest assured OP, that if it is malicious, it's personal.

LazyDoll · 04/04/2021 00:38

TheNestedlf that WAS very specific...do you know something?

Don't worry, this is AC12, they'll probably go to a house 3 streets down and end up accidentally shooting half the residents Confused

Tbh love, rat poison is a best case scenario for me.
TheNestedIf · 04/04/2021 00:47

Nobody got the Alien reference, then?

midlifecrash · 04/04/2021 00:49

oh I've just thought, does your place of work do slightly lame but quite sweet things to cheer people up during lockdown? I can imagine our senior management team deciding to send everyone a random Easter egg, completely freaking them out as they try to work out where it's from.

sorry for being boring.

ChippyDucks150 · 04/04/2021 00:52

I love this, it's exactly the way I think too. OP, there's not a chance in hell that I would be eating that egg.
As an aside, someone once put a pair of shoes in a carrier bag through my letterbox. My size, not my style, and no-one I asked knew where they came from. I binned them too, incase they were poisoned Grin

FortunesFave · 04/04/2021 00:56

What type of egg is it OP? A posh one or a Cadbury's one?
