I personally don’t but I know many do

I wish I did! Grin

Might help my waist line and my bank balance.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/04/2021 23:07

middle ground. fine for treats, not for regular. but we were short of money and I can't get past feeling uneasy about spending on stuff that is not a necessity.

CimCardashian · 02/04/2021 23:09

It’s so much money for one meal,we might have a takeaway for a birthday treat but definitely not a weekly thing like many people. I’d love to be able to afford to though!

So I don’t think it’s a waste if you can afford it.

SpacePotato · 02/04/2021 23:09

Yes and no.

Great for a treat but couldn't afford it regularly.
Know someone in a family of 5 who have takeaway at least twice a week then moan they are always skint. Confused

FancySomeChips · 02/04/2021 23:11

We have them twice a month- and I love them.
But they are ridiculously expensive!!!

UhtredRagnarson · 02/04/2021 23:11

Considering I cant ever hope to make food as nice as a takeaway it’s certainly not a waste for us.

littlepattilou · 02/04/2021 23:12

No. Me and DH spend £15 on a Chinese takeaway, or an Indian takeaway once a month, and we have pretty much a bit of a buffet; like 6 or 7 different things. Like a main, half a main, (eg half a portion of chicken balls,) chips, prawn crackers, sauces, noodles, spring rolls etc, It makes us 2 meals each.

So that's 4 meals for £15. £3.75 a meal each. (We have 1 meal each on a Friday night, and 1 meal each on Saturday.) Excellent bargain. There's no way we could buy all the ingredients, make it, and cook it ourselves for that.

PickAChew · 02/04/2021 23:12

If you have them several times a week, your money could probably be better spent.

Every few weeks, nice for convenience or a bit of a change.

Babyroobs · 02/04/2021 23:12

I think it's worth it not to have to cook on a friday night. I hate having to think of meals for fussy teens all week, so I look forward to fridays when I don't have to. We don't spend much on drinking or smoking or anything else so it's a weekly treat we all look forward to after working all week.
If we had a sudden drop in income then yes it would need to stop but we can afford it for now.

Mummadeze · 02/04/2021 23:12

Yes because I always feel a bit ill and too full afterwards. The idea of them is nicer than the reality

W3dontdoduvets · 02/04/2021 23:13

It fills a gap on occasions, never better than what we can make at home though.

Ilovethewild · 02/04/2021 23:13

Yes I do, however my other half loves them, would have them twice a week or more. I dislike them and prefer to cook/ eat the food we have!

PickAChew · 02/04/2021 23:13

Why not?

Yes exactly- we had an indian last week and just padded it out the next night with some extra rice and naan, so the main courses lasted for 2 meals.
Strangekindofwoman · 02/04/2021 23:14

No.

moochingtothepub · 02/04/2021 23:14

It's a treat, can afford it but they are pretty unhealthy and actually I can cook better Indian food especially. A meal for 2 is around £25 at least here, probably nearer £30

BeardieWeirdie · 02/04/2021 23:14

I’d much rather have a meal out instead of a take-away where it’s half-cold or soggy by the time you get it home and you still have to wash up (I like my food on a plate!). I resent paying a lot for a take-away meal that isn’t as tasty as something I could make myself.

hulahooper2 · 02/04/2021 23:14

@littlepattilou that is very cheap

DaisyDreaming · 02/04/2021 23:15

Yes but still have them once in a while. I’m down south though and they seem vastly more expensive to some further up north!

SushiGo · 02/04/2021 23:15

Too many takeaways and I miss vegetables (maybe that's reflective of the very limited takeout options near me!)

But still a great treat, once a month or so to not have to cook...

UhtredRagnarson · 02/04/2021 23:15

Why not?

I have no interest in cooking

yetmorecrap · 02/04/2021 23:15

Nope- every time I have one (maybe twice a month) I always think my own home made stuff is way better

moochingtothepub · 02/04/2021 23:15

@littlepattilou

Where do you live??? Never heard of such cheap takeaways, mains are £6 minimum here and rice £4 per portion

SofiaMichelle · 02/04/2021 23:15

Yes. Dislike takeaway food and don't think it's good value.

No issue affording it at all but we just don't want it. I would think it's at least 3 years since we had anything takeaway.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/04/2021 23:16

No, its your money and if that's what you want to spend it on then its not a waste.
