You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

OP posts:
Umbivalent · 01/04/2021 19:58

It's

YOU USED AN ABBREVIATION!!! WHY OH WHY CAN'T YOU TYPE "IT IS"???? WHEN WILL YOU STOP THE TWATTERY @MehWithBellsOn???

LostToucan · 01/04/2021 19:59

RTFM definitely doesn’t mean read the full manual.

LazyDoll · 01/04/2021 19:59

Agree. I just type it out longhand. I’m not a fan of the D prefix. At all Grin

SanFrancisco49er · 01/04/2021 20:01

I deciphered STBXH as Stupid Bastard Ex Husband when I first joined. Took a long time to realise it was Soon To Be!

Benjispruce2 · 01/04/2021 20:02

It’s shorthand and understood by everyone on here. No other reason. Calm yourself.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2021 20:02

RTFT is officially defined in the MN acronym list as 'RTFT read the f**king thread'

https://www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms

GNCQ · 01/04/2021 20:03

Bit late to the party but surely the "D" in "DH" is interchangeable with a derogatory such as "Dickhead" depending on the circumstances.

The abbreviations were invented at the beginning of the internet to protect women's safety and anonymity, and remain for such reasons.

I back them 100%

MiriamMargo · 01/04/2021 20:03

I agree its a ridiculous !!

Zotter · 01/04/2021 20:04

@mellicauli

DH is always ironic. Listen to the subtext!

www.disboards.com/threads/why-do-people-say-dh-dd-ds-dw.1210493/ here's someone asking the same question 15 years ago on another forum. Definitely not MN exclusive.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2021 20:09

DH is always ironic.

No it's not. Though tbf, since he discovered the joys of Amazon prime, mine isn't merely dear, he's positively expensive.

Brownteddybear · 01/04/2021 20:09

@Reinventinganna

Are you new (to mn and the internet in general)?
That's what I wondered too!

Usually it's best to read a site's "rules" or acronyms and familiarise yourself with the tone, usage and feel of the place before posting.

AND THIS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND THATS WAY MORE ANNOYING THAN DH, DC OR EVEN DDOG OR DCAT! SO YOUR THREAD TITLE IS WORSE OP OR DO WE HAVE TO CALL YOU ORIGINAL POSTER NOW?

Palavah · 01/04/2021 20:10

@MoonCatcher

I don't get the use of DDad or Ddog or DCat - why?
To distinguish between dogs and daughters and dads

Or between cats and children

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/04/2021 20:11

@Ifailed

I do most of my typing on mumsnet with one hand while I feed my baby

I feed DB while typing on MN 1 handed

69 characters versus 37. Can anyone get it lower?

No one cares if you are breast feeding.
Chloemol · 01/04/2021 20:13

Get over yourself, it’s accepted short hand on here

KingdomScrolls · 01/04/2021 20:15

When I first joined Mumsnet I thought STBExH was stupid bastard ex husband....

KingdomScrolls · 01/04/2021 20:17

@Happinessisawarmcervix
Snap!

Well i sort of care, I read DB as Darling Brother Confused.

23PissOffAvenueWF · 01/04/2021 20:19

Have your rant OP, but nothing’s going to change.

Dear / Darling Husband is beyond twee, but when people type it, they’re not actually thinking ‘darling husband’, they’re thinking [Nigel / Trevor / Derek / delete as appropriate].

These threads come up with boring irregularity.

The OP rants and raves about the tweeness of it.

People explain its short-hand, which the OP KNOWS FULL WELL (so why bother?)!

Then everyone continues on with their DHs, DDs, DSs, MILs, etc, etc.

Complete waste of exertion.

😴

BroomHandledMouser · 01/04/2021 20:20

STBXH - I thought it meant shit the bed ex husband 🤣🤣🙈

oakleaffy · 01/04/2021 20:21

@Contactlesslenses

I got very confused once on a thread with a DF.. friend? Fiancé? Father?

I’ve also seen DParents?

I love DDog though.. and DFish..!

DStick insects.
yeOldeTrout · 01/04/2021 20:21

I do it just to irritate OP. And always have done. I waited all this time for her to notice & she finally did. Hoorah!

Houseofvelour · 01/04/2021 20:24

Instructions unclear. DH caught on electric whisk.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 01/04/2021 20:27

@SummerHouse

Amen. It's stupid.

But does it not mean 'dear' not 'darling' ? Is this going to be like the time I discovered the spelling is Saturday??

As opposed to??
