You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

OP posts:
Moelwynbach · 01/04/2021 20:30

I always say the full thing eg son, husband etc.

MillyMollyMandyish · 01/04/2021 20:33

It sounds terribly antiquated, middle class and twee, to me. I've never come across the 'Dear' anywhere except here.

It's along the same lines as 'Dear Reader' and 'Dear Diary'.
'Dear reader..I married him'.

It belongs to a certain era, a certain type of person, and it's most definitely not common parlance off SM.

I just write H or whatever.

LavenderEast · 01/04/2021 20:34

This thread did make me chuckle as have a lot if the comments.

Shower of twats will now be used in everyday conversation Grin

I hate the acronyms and they did try to creep onto another forum I am on, whose subject matter is nothing to do with parenting and someone used a mumsnet acronym and got chased off the thread.

I can't do text speak, even 20 years ago when I got my 1st Nokia that had a very limited number if characters I just used to use full words and send 3 texts.

I don't think I have used Google so much to work out what people are trying to say than I have since joining this site. I also get so confused as people use DP to mean Partner or Parents and I Shock at some if the conversations I think people are talking about having with their parents but actually mean their significant other Blush

@Hankunamatata

Its much easier to type dh when u have small people running about and your typing it one handed?
Do you live in a midget circus?
23PissOffAvenueWF · 01/04/2021 20:37

It’s also quicker to type ‘your’ instead of ‘you’re’, but I won’t be going down that route.

Also intrigued as to how else Saturday could be spelt.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 20:37

I’d be more concerned as to what they are doing with the other hand...

And if the small people doing circus tricks are turning a discreet tiny little blind eye to it all.

MillyMollyMandyish · 01/04/2021 20:38

It's much easier just to write H, or M, or F, without the silly 'dear' prefix.

MillyMollyMandyish · 01/04/2021 20:39

Probably Saterday.
The same as seperated Grin

JuneFromBethesda · 01/04/2021 20:39

@PradaBallbag

I'm with you. I refuse to use the acronyms. It's twattish. Always type out husband or daughter longhand.
Yup, me too.

DDog in particular drives me to distraction 🤯

MNWorldisCrazy · 01/04/2021 20:39

In the nicest way possible, I really don't think MN is for you....

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 20:43

There is something that I would really like to type. So here goes.

PRYATBCIHECAOHAIHFTYBMOYTACGOBMFYCGFYSYBTYALD.

🖕🏽

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 20:44

Sorry. That should have ‘d’ in front of it.

poppycat10 · 01/04/2021 20:50

@Rinoachicken

It’s just shorthand. It’s quicker to type.

Yes it can stand for Darling husband. But feel free to substitute for another more suitable word where required. I quite like Dickhead husband and Daft husband, where called for!

Love it :)

I nearly typed ‘Are you wanking in a midget circus’ but thought it might be considered rude.
SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 20:54

SylHellais 🤣

I’m glad it isn’t just me that is worried about the welfare of those with tiny eyes.

I’m wondering how much notice they’d get for donning waterproofs.

Bluntpencil · 01/04/2021 20:55

If you don’t like then you don’t need to read Mumsnet?

MasterBeth · 01/04/2021 20:56

I agree with the OP. Just write the word. It’s not hard. Husband.

Unihorn · 01/04/2021 20:57

They're not Mumsnet acronyms, they've been around on forums for over 20 years.

StealthRoast · 01/04/2021 20:59

Are you new op?!

I’ve never seen it as “darling”. Always “dear” and I like it. It’s just part of who we are.

One thing I don’t like on here though is the C word. I’m 43 and said it last year for the first time and shocked myself. I love a good swear but just not that word. I can’t even type it.

I’ve seen a few pet ones on here over the years which are funny- the best one being Dtortoise Grin

No wonder they’re blind.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2021 21:07

'Dear reader..I married him'.

What you can't do on MN is make mistakes in literary quotations. It's 'Reader, I married him'.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 01/04/2021 21:08

I've always read the 'D' as darling, and I've been here for 14ish years.

And those asking about the spelling of Saturday, RTFT (that's F for fucking). The poster did explain.

CharityDingle · 01/04/2021 21:28

DMIL came to visit with her DDog.
DMIL hates me, she set the DDog on me and it bit me. Wink

There's some one handed typing that goes on alright on MN, I would say.
Nowt to do with feeding Dbabies though.
