To find this Easter vaguely depressing?

Not a big fan of Easter anyway since I'm not religious but I feel like the whole fact of it just seems a bit depressing - could be because at Christmas I'd expected things would be somehow much more normal by now. Also seems too early. Anyone else?

I'm happy with 4 days off work and a big pile of chocolate to get through.

MadinMarch · 02/04/2021 11:02

I'm also having friends round for lunch in the garden today. We'll wrap up warmly and drink loads of wine and laugh and laugh. Can't wait to see them all!

Flowers24 · 02/04/2021 11:07

I think its ok, least we can meet up outside now.

Babdoc · 02/04/2021 13:59

Happy Easter to you too, CateTown, and to everyone on this thread - I hope you all have a much nicer time than you think you will!
I always try to remember that our own miseries pale into insignificance beside those of Christ - who willingly suffered the agony of flogging and crucifixion at humanity’s hands, but triumphed on Easter Day. If we currently feel we are suffering along with Him, may we all also celebrate with Him on Sunday.

RampantIvy · 02/04/2021 18:39

I collected DD home from university today. All is well with the world.

Enjoy your Easter everyone.

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 19:37

weather is amazing in some parts, happy easter eveyone! Enjoy the birdsong and blossom and being able to leave the bloody house! Wine

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 19:40

I nearly died of hyperthermia standing outside at christmas with friends. I am feeling quite I can do the same this Easter as well - it is going to be at least 2c warmer than it was in December Grin

dementedma · 02/04/2021 20:44

Here in Scotland we didnt even get the brief warm weather that people had in the South. We have snow forecast. Fuck sitting in the garden! Its just another covid weekend with a bit more chocolate

Itsalonghaul · 03/04/2021 09:45

The weather has been amazing certainly yesterday was a gorgeous warm spring day for much of the UK. Sitting in the sun, watching the explosion of spring colour. Whether you can face a return to socialising or not, I hope everyone will find a way to enjoy their long weekend.

Woodpecker22 · 03/04/2021 10:04

I have an autistic child who does not understand covid or why everything is shut. Multiple times everyday for the past year he has asked to go on a train. It is impossible to get him to understand why this in no longer possible. For me things will only improve when we can travel for non essential reasons and outdoor attactions open up although no idea how he will cope with social distancing.

islockdownoveryet · 03/04/2021 10:09

Normally I love Easter , 4 day break with no huge build up like Christmas. Go and do a nice big food and drink shop and eat and drink all weekend and the weather usually better .
This year although better than last year only slightly because half the family have had Covid and only just coming out of isolation and we have had colds too so best to not see anyone yet .
Next year will be better ......

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 03/04/2021 10:23

It's better than last years. The sun is shining and I'm able to meet up with another household in my garden. I'll see my sister and her family for the first time in many months this weekend when they come over and sit outside with us.
People are also now being vaccinated and so many people I know have had at least one if not both.

daisiesinmay · 03/04/2021 10:26

That sounds hard Woodpecker22 Hope your ds gets to go on his train trip soon Daffodil

Im disappointed that I cannot have my family round for Easter Sunday dinner, now for the second year running. We will have a brief cuppa in the garden, not the same. I cannot believe it is now over a year and we are still stuck in the bl**dy Twilight Zone. If other folk break rules, well not my party. Each has to do what they think is right.

Gothichouse40 · 03/04/2021 10:31

Ps I feel you Demented, weather up here is sh*. Sick of aimless walks and garden visits in Scotland are like garden visits in Alaska.

Pheebs2021 · 03/04/2021 10:35

Not even vaguely religious but it was always Mums favourite holiday, a time to get together no trying to please with gifts etc etc just an egg so no big financial demands and just a time to stop, now I love Easter just for that alone. Just a time to stop.

Pheebs2021 · 03/04/2021 10:36

Sorry continue... so this year because I can't see family in the same way it just feels a little sadder. This is Mums holiday! So I'll be putting her favourite Easter flowers in the house and just stopping.

Midlifelady · 03/04/2021 10:37

No. The birds are singing, the magnolias are out, everything is turning green. Easter is a home thing for us anyway (GCSE year now too - no exams but plenty of assessments to revise for).
I'm off to shops soon to collect the lamb and trimmings - one of my favourite meals of the year. It brings back lovely memories of my mother too.
Plus Lent is over I can drink wine again!!

HeronLanyon · 03/04/2021 10:58

Just went for long walk. By Thames. Got chased by a goose down on the shore. Trees budding. Birds singing. Only thing which I found tough was the Liverpool F. C. but outside their hotel. Hmmm

HeronLanyon · 03/04/2021 10:58

‘Bus’

Same4Walls · 03/04/2021 11:03

I have to admit I'm envious of those of you with sunshine, it's 6 degrees and overcast here today. If we sat out in the garden to socialise we would need to be wearing winter coats.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 03/04/2021 11:11

If we sat out in the garden to socialise we would need to be wearing winter coats.

6 degrees and cloudy here, we’re going to be shivering in parkas in the back garden while DC and DN do an Easter egg hunt (a day early because the weather looks even worse tomorrow!)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/04/2021 11:15

It feels like it's been going on for such a long time now. We don't even have the MN Easter smileys this year. Sad

(I did see my DSis for the first time since Christmas yesterday. We had a walk, sat in the garden for a chat, and swapped Easter eggs, so that was nice. Smile)

Same4Walls · 03/04/2021 11:16

It's reassuring to know it's not just us. Honestly other than 2 or 3 sunny days it's probably just as cold as it was for much of winter. Where on earth do all these people live who have glorious sunshine. Fingers crossed the egg hunt is speedy. Grin

@Mojoj

Well fantastic for you and I hope you have a fabulous time!!!

I’m 43 still having lung problems from covid last November, around 130 000 people have died and the mental health of our drs, nurses and other healthcare staff have taken a serious hit!!!

Enjoy your prosecco and gin!!
