To find this Easter vaguely depressing?

Not a big fan of Easter anyway since I'm not religious but I feel like the whole fact of it just seems a bit depressing - could be because at Christmas I'd expected things would be somehow much more normal by now. Also seems too early. Anyone else?

To me, this Easter is a big improvement over last year. Case numbers are way down, lockdown rules are being eased and my husband and I have both had our jabs. I'm thankful, not depressed.

garlictwist · 01/04/2021 19:43

I don't care about stuff being shut and restrictions - it is what it is. But I care how flipping shit the weather is going to be. If it were warm and sunny it would be great and easy to be outside and do things.

Tal45 · 01/04/2021 19:43

Decent weather? It's supposed to be 7 degrees here Mon/Tues/Weds. We were spoilt last year the weather was really lovely, this year we had one day of sun and now the temperature is dropping right off again. Can't go anywhere, haven't seen anyone in my family in over a year and still don't know when I will be able to see them, not before the summer holidays. The holidays I've booked for the summer abroad may be cancelled again and even though everyone at high risk has been vaccinated we're still not anywhere near normal. It's all pretty shit.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 01/04/2021 19:52

I'm not finding it depressing because the clocks going forward is something I welcome and love the later darkness.

As for the date, the date of Easter this year was known about in 1752 when we adopted the Gregorian calendar, so you can't say you weren't warned about it being early this year.

teraculum29 · 01/04/2021 19:58

I'm the same, I always celebrated Easter, had all sort of activities going on with children etc but this year I'm not feeling it. plus the fact that I am working this Easter doesn't help.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 01/04/2021 20:03

Second Easter holiday in a row cancelled now. Last year, we were going to Croatia with my DH, DD1 (DD2 not born yet), parents, sister and BIL. This year, we decided to play it safe and book a week in Newquay next week. Next week is the last week UK holidays aren’t allowed to happen.

It’s also my sister’s 30th birthday and we can’t do a big do for her.

Covid can fuck off!

I was also meant to be going on holiday last Easter BeingATwatItsABingThing and postponed it to this Easter, then to the summer, and it looks like will be doing so again. I know it's lucky to even be meant to have been going though.

I didn't even know it was good Friday tomorrow until DH pointed it out 😂

I'm working 3 out of the 4 days so it never even registered that easter had crept up.

so yeah pretty meh Grin

YABU
You've survived a pandemic - surely that's worth celebrating!

God knows I'm a miserable bugger but compared to some of you, I'm Pollyanna!

Oblomov21 · 01/04/2021 20:22

Both my boys said it didn't feel like Easter. Has covid ruined it because they've only been back a few weeks?

Mintjulia · 01/04/2021 20:27

Quite the opposite this year.

I've got a friend over tomorrow, seeing my sister on Saturday, and I've started my new job so I can relax the grip on the purse strings at last. Chocolate Smile hot cross buns Smile Limoux blanc Smile Roast lamb Smile
The green house is full of sprouting salad and broad beans, and I finished weeding the flower beds.

I'm feeling absurdly cheerful. Sorry

It's not over yet according to the PM anyway

Is anyone else feeling tired at the thought of Easter lunch, decorating and all the rest?

Who decorates for Easter? What is "all the rest"? Just get Cadburys button Easter eggs for the kids and be done with it instead of performance Eastering!

Watercoloursky · 01/04/2021 20:32

We're having two friends in the garden for a firepit dinner on Saturday, and we're driving to meet my parents and my twin sister in a big and very pretty park halfway between our addresses (about a 90 min drive each - first time we've seen each other since that 24hr window at Christmas!) on Monday. I'm feeling ridiculously excited - we haven't seen anyone for such a long time, I don't even care if it's cold! And we've got 4 days off work and we're going to make hot cross buns and the garden is looking lovely - I realise all of the above puts me in a more fortunate position than many, but this Easter is so much better than last year when we couldn't see anyone at all.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/04/2021 20:35

We're not religious, don't usually celebrate Easter in any way and most years have been on a cheap and cheerful holiday in the sun. This year I am determined we will make it a bit special. We have an elderly relative with us (support bubble) and we are a household of 4 adults. So making meals as if it were Christmas/New Year with a pudding everyday (which we only ever have at Christmas or if entertaining - so long since we did that!)
It's a shame we can't go anywhere - or where we would go will be busy, but we will eat well!

Beenaroundnow · 01/04/2021 20:37

Actually feel quite good about this Easter.
Probably because I’m going to meet up with my friends for the first time in months and we are going to have a blast even if we have to sit in a million layers of clothes and blankets.
We’ve made it through a difficult term with the kids and it feels like an actual 2 week break ahead.
(And I am someone who has hit the covid wall a few times so I’m not beyond finding things depressing but this isn’t one of them)

CateTown · 01/04/2021 20:37

@Itsalonghaul

Is anyone else feeling tired at the thought of Easter lunch, decorating and all the rest?

I used to be so spritely, but I feel absolutely knackered after months of lockdown and homeschooling. I want to invite my friends over, but have zero energy to provide for them...anyone else seriously in need of a holiday not Easter?!!

We have people coming over to our garden for two of the days, so we will be making coffee, lunches snacks etc. Which is all very lovely, but I’ve been trapped in my house for a year working full time and homeschooling and these get together as just feel like an extension of that. I need to get out somewhere more than a quarter of a mile from home.

Ours couldn’t be postponed unfortunately. Luckily we got our money back so have decided to spend two holidays’ worth of budget to go to Disneyland next year instead. Hopefully it will be possible to go then.

We’ve also spent a fucktonne of money on a short summer break to Legoland to make up for a year of missed fun for DD1. DD2 will love the colourful environment hopefully (she’ll only be 10 months by then).

wheresmymojo · 01/04/2021 21:37

I'm excited to see my friends tomorrow night...

We'll be wrapped up warm with blankets and hot drinks, in her open sided wooden chalet type thing outside that has heaters in it.

Can't wait!

daisiesinmay · 01/04/2021 21:39

BeingATwatItsABingThing I hope you manage to do both and you, and others in the same boat have done amazingly to get through this past year with a new baby, that can't have been easy at all Brew

yeOldeTrout · 01/04/2021 21:41

I didn't expect things to be more 'normal' now.. but yes, it's depressing like rest of last 12months have been. At least we had a few days of nice weather first.

DH says sleet is forecast for Monday. Eeek.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 01/04/2021 21:49

Thanks @daisiesinmay!

Hopefully your holiday can happen too
