To find this Easter vaguely depressing?

Not a big fan of Easter anyway since I'm not religious but I feel like the whole fact of it just seems a bit depressing - could be because at Christmas I'd expected things would be somehow much more normal by now. Also seems too early. Anyone else?

It’s awesome! This is the second Easter in a row that I haven’t had to put up with my MIL and her latest weirdo boyfriend.

beginningoftheend · 01/04/2021 21:57

I'm in the middle, have had a really good day today, but generally it is hard to shake the meh feeling.

dementedma · 01/04/2021 21:58

Snow forecast here, so we wont be sipping fizz in the garden. Just another Covid weekend really

U2HasTheEdge · 01/04/2021 23:15

Easter has never been important to me, but I am looking forward to having a week off work.

I will meet a friend and sit outside hers and light the chiminea. Take away and wine.

Over the Easter weekend ill see family, the weather might not be great but I'm looking forward to seeing people.

I will also do a lot of sleeping in, reading, and crocheting which I'm looking forward to.

I guess it's because I rarely do anything over Easter, so I don't feel like it's another one ruined, but just time off work which is much needed. I have had times during the pandemic where I have felt really low in mood and like there was no fun to be had anywhere, but thankfully at the moment I am not feeling that way.

U2HasTheEdge · 01/04/2021 23:19

@Itsalonghaul

Is anyone else feeling tired at the thought of Easter lunch, decorating and all the rest?

I used to be so spritely, but I feel absolutely knackered after months of lockdown and homeschooling. I want to invite my friends over, but have zero energy to provide for them...anyone else seriously in need of a holiday not Easter?!!

I don't decorate for Easter.

I won't cook a traditional Easter dinner because I can't be bothered. In this house we have chocolate eggs and that's it really.

A holiday would be bloody lovely I agree.

Shortiemyboo · 01/04/2021 23:20

I dont really get the hype, feels like weve just had Christmas. Easter eggs, sunday dinner here, done

AmyandPhilipfan · 01/04/2021 23:45

I feel very tired in general these days. I wouldn’t say depressed, but my get up and go has got up and gone. I saw some FB memories from last year earlier today and even though we were in full lockdown I did all sorts of Easter crafts with my two oldest kids and played games with toy lambs and chicks and things with my toddler. This year that toddler is coming up to four and better able to get involved in crafts and activities and we’ve done nothing. Today I’ve literally sat on the sofa all day and watched crap TV with her in between nodding off. It’s rubbish and I feel really guilty but I have no inclination to do much of anything else at the moment. I am fairly religious and miss going to Church services, including the nice services that local churches normally put on for kids at Easter. I really missed that at Christmas too - it didn’t feel as ‘special’ without all the normal church activities.

Vivana · 01/04/2021 23:47

Nope going to enjoy my weekend off as a care assistant its rare for me to have a weekend off.

billy1966 · 01/04/2021 23:58

Vaguely???🙄

Doesn't even begin to cover it.

MountainDweller · 02/04/2021 00:21

I feel bleak. Can't believe it's been a year. I'm in France and were going back into lockdown. I say that but we've been in semi lockdown since November with a few weeks off in December. Government is patting itself on the back for keeping schools open - but to what end? Daily cases in the 30,000s, vaccination programme à joke. And we were doing so well at the beginning...

GoLightlyontheEarth · 02/04/2021 00:32

Ive never decorated or made Easter lunch. Easter eggs when my kids were young and that’s it .
Easter doesn’t rally mean much to me.

Shallow07 · 02/04/2021 06:21

Definitely depressed by it here too. DF recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and this might be the last Easter we spend together. My DD is 14 mo and because of fucking Covid has spent very little time with her grandparents.

So I'm going to make sure we have a lovely time but will be pasting on a smile for everyone else's sake when all I feel like doing is sobbing.

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 06:25

Am the only one that decorates the house with an easter tree and scenes of spring? We usually cut some blossom from the trees and have flowers in the house. Easter wreath is decorated.

Easter lunch is very similar to christmas with lamb instead of turkey? Family visit or we visit them with spring bulbs and things for the dc. Easter egg hunt in the morning and a basket of small gifts for each child?

I really thought everyone did this!

We have been doing Easter this way for twenty years, and apparently all I ever needed to do was get a cadbury buttons easter egg for dc.

RampantIvy · 02/04/2021 06:27

@LadyCatStark

No, it’s bloody lovely. The sun is shining and we can meet up with people outdoors. That’s enough for me!
No it isn't. The forecast here over the Easter weekend has temperatures ranging from -2 to a maximum of 12 degrees Sad.

We had 22 degrees earlier this week.

Anon778833 · 02/04/2021 06:29

I’m focusing on lockdown coming to an end so for that reason it doesn’t feel so bleak for me...

HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 06:38

Mixed feelings -
Lifting of lockdown is best feeling ever but acclaimed by worry for me - very mixed feelings and fears of future restrictions if we get this wrong.
Weather has been all over the place - not a fan of this

Easter usually marks getting away even if only for short time. Is also time when my summer plans firm up - travel plans and looking forward usually play quite a big part in life admin. No idea when my passport runs out - haven’t looked at it for ages not wholly sure where it is. No visits to swimwear 365 or similar sites - I’d need a bigger size now I think Grin
U.K. holiday places - residents are bracing themselves for onslaught from now on. Lots of quieter places will be rammed.
Not even sure about Christmas/winter travel.
Easter is a big first marker in the year for me and trouble is all other markers (big summer birthdays/travel/academic year/social stuff/cultural seasons/tours/gigs etc are non existent/uncertain/different.

Namechangeforspring2021 · 02/04/2021 06:40

Less bleak than last year - I pretty much ignored it and OH was enraged by people dropping off Easter eggs for the kids (potentially covered in covid) he’s mellowed slightly now.

Kintsuji · 02/04/2021 06:43

Feels bleak here.

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 07:17

I have been thinking about this thread, and maybe it is time to celebrate even if you have to wrap up warm - and drink hot chocolate and go and see family and friends. At least we have the choice! Much of the continent are under another lockdown, we never know when/if another one will head our way.

A collective push to chill the rose or warm up the hot toddies and go out and do something. We have spent enough time cooped up and miserable. The only thing I am wondering is what to actually wear?! With sun and snow forecast!

GoldenOmber · 02/04/2021 07:58

Feeling miserable too. Might be different if I could meet up with family in the garden but they’re all too far away, plus it’s bloody freezing out there. Can’t really do anything different to what we’ve been allowed to do for the past few months.

It’s better than last Easter in lots of ways and there are lots of things to objectively be positive about, but it’s just hard I suppose to feel very positive after such a long bleak trudge.

GoldenOmber · 02/04/2021 08:03

A collective push to chill the rose or warm up the hot toddies and go out and do something.

Like what, though? All we can do where I live is go for a walk, again, or go to the park, again. As of Monday we’ll be allowed to go to key-cutting shops and garden centres, woohoooo.

I will drag myself back into positivity to do some Easter crafts and egg hunts with the kids, it’ll be fine, it’s just... urgh.

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 08:30

golden Tennis courts, mini golf and all outdoor sports are now open, so you could go and play and have fun doing that with the dc.

You are allowed to gather in gardens, so drinks or lunch outside is now possible. You can also meet up with friends outside for a picnic. It is not tropical but it is dry and warm enough with a coat. Lots of attractions are now open, national trust gardens and lakes etc.

From the 12th so much more will be open, but for now there is at least more to do if you want to.

I appreciate the efforts to try to jolly me into seeing the bright side, really I do, but I was not joking when I said that there is really nothing here I can newly do. Everything is either closed or too far away to travel to. Yes including National Trust gardens. Yes including mini golf.

Here in Scotland we have been able to meet up with limited other people outside for a while now, so there’s that, but there are strict rules on how far you can travel to do it and how many people can be there and it’s Baltic out. I would love to be able to have a long leisurely picnic with my family in my garden! But I can’t, because they live too far away.

Like I said I am going to pack Easter full of crafty eggy fun stuff for the kids and it’ll be fine, and it’s better than January and at least we’re not dead and etc etc etc, but I totally understand why others are feeling as fed up as I am right now!

AnyFucker · 02/04/2021 08:52

What was the weather like last Easter, does anyone remember ?

RaspberryCoulis · 02/04/2021 08:58

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

Better than last Easter when we could do bugger all
I'm in Scotland and we can still do bugger all.

Saint Nicola of Covid has changed the "stay ay home" to "you can move within your council area but it is still illegal to leave it". And we're supposed to be grateful with that?

So it's still illegal to see your friends/family who don't live in the same local council area to you.

What a pile of shit.
