I know there are much bigger problems in the world right now, but I need to rant about this.

Every time I look on their website, at any type of product, it’s never in stock at any stores for collection and is definitely never available for delivery! We live in the East Midlands, we’re surrounded by stores but they never seem to have anything in them! Is it just me they don’t want to sell things to!? What the fuck is going on with them?

Argos sell a lot of their stock on Ebay. I’ve bought dishes, kettle and pillows that I saw on their website but couldn’t post to my address. 😊

gingganggooleywotsit · 01/04/2021 22:55

Yes I’ve really gone off Argos for this reason-you have to click on each individual item to find out whether it’s in stock nearby or not! Such a faff and takes ages!

Hannsmum · 01/04/2021 23:10

Always had this problem even precovid

Harryo · 01/04/2021 23:16

I don’t think I’ve bought anything in Argos for at least 7 or 8 years.
Loved it until the late 90’s, but it’s like it never moved on from there really.

Famousinlove · 01/04/2021 23:23

Yes i wanted to get a fake christmas tree last year and they we're all sold out from November, they've been crap since then

Famousinlove · 01/04/2021 23:27

@ufucoffee

Just today I ordered four things to pick up. All in stock.
You should put your lottery numbers on this week!
Harryo · 03/04/2021 20:28

I bet it was @ufucoffee who won the Euromillions jackpot yesterday. Lucky bugger!

I am the proud owner of a new lawnmower, realised ours was broken, ordered one on-line went and collected it, assembled it and started back on the lawn within the hour.

I have two very local stores and as I said previously the app (on my tablet) immediately lets me see stock at a particular store. When Argos works it is good.

catsandchaos · 03/04/2021 21:28

They cut down their stock levels a long time ago. Maybe to save on markdown or so they aren't holding unsold stock?

ufucoffee · 04/04/2021 09:31

@Harryo I wish. Not one number!

Crimeismymiddlename · 04/04/2021 09:51

I had no problems with Argos at all until the Sainsbury’s take over. Since then they ether don’t have the stock, or I have to miles out of my way, and on a few occasions they have given me the wrong thing in the last year.

RMRM · 07/04/2021 12:52

Well, I finally found things in stock today (took a good hour or so) and ordered them, only to find their payment system is down and they've 'taken'/reserved the money via PayPal, but not completed the order and I won't get my money 'back' for a week or so or the order. Twitter is full of people who have had the same problem.

Going to check the cards I tried first to make sure that didn't go onto pending too. Hmm

Ffs. It shouldn't be this hard!

cheninblanc · 07/04/2021 12:54

RMRM I've done an order today, I also had to pay via pay pal but it does seem to have been completed!

SaveloyDip · 07/04/2021 13:01

I ordered some light fittings from Argos last Tuesday - told they would be ready to collect from the store on Saturday but never received notification that they were ready for collection.

I called them on Monday and was told they were cancelling the order as they had none in stock and their store delivery had not turned up. Apparently it is company policy NOT to inform the customer of this, just to issue a refund after the week long collection window closes unless the customer calls to ask where their order is.

Straight after the phone call I go onto the website and order the exact same light fittings to be delivered to my home (from the same company and the same branch). They were in stock and were delivered within 3 hours.

At least they had the good grace to refund me the delivery fee when I complained.

MintyCedric · 07/04/2021 13:03

South East Coast and its been the same down here for over a year.

They must have lost hundreds of pounds of business from our household alone (more probably as were looking to buy a hot tub, dining table and chairs and freezer at various points).

Bettina500 · 07/04/2021 13:07

East Midlands here too and most stuff seems to be permanently out of stock. I agree it seems to have gone to pot since the Sainsbury's takeover.
They're also not accepting returns at the moment which is a pain.

bookworm1632 · 07/04/2021 13:08

It's the same with everything at the moment - we've got the perfect storm.

Brexit has caused a number of issues with supply chains being shifted to avoid/minimise border issues etc. Also additional documentation requirements mean goods take longer to arrive.

Covid has created problems throughout the supply chain, in particular slowing down the speed at which ports can process goods.

Some of our ports still have huge piles of PPE containers clogging things up due to the government massively over-ordering last May. They're also clogged up with a shitload of empty containers as ships, already running behind schedule, aren't hanging around to fill up on empties.

Lockdown has meant LOTS of people have changed their purchasing habits - it's probably the biggest sudden shift in goods' demand since WWII!

And on top of all that, then we have the Suez blockage!

colinthecaterpillars · 07/04/2021 13:14

I was after a simple bookcase, took my money then said it's not in stock. FAQ said try again it could be a error... No thanks I'll wait for a refund back in my back and take my custom elsewhere Angry

bfp2 · 24/08/2021 21:15

So glad it's not just me having this issue! Just tried to order something, the money has been taken/pending but the order didn't go through. It bounced me back to the homepage. £300 just held up in my account now, who knows when I'll get it back.

This is the second time it has happened, forgave them the first time, but not sure I can after this. Will need to shop elsewhere.

Argos has gone to shit!

bakebeans · 24/08/2021 21:30

It’s been like that for years. They would sell out of popular toys in September!

Edinlondon · 23/06/2022 00:56

I completely agree with the OP. Based on my experience, most items on my wishlist continue to be out of stock week after week. Not sure I will bother with Argos anymore...

GameofPhones · 29/09/2023 14:30

Argos still just as bad. Placed my order, they accepted it, delivery arranged, then out of the blue they cancelled an item. Presumably it's out of stock, but is still showing as available both online and in store (and people merrily ordering it). So it's back to Amazon, then. No wonder they are so popular - never had this problem with them.
