Argos has always been like this. At least nowadays you don’t have to trek down there, look through the laminated catalogue, use the stubby little pen to write down the code and then queue up to be told, “Sorry, not in stock.”
Or you could look on the internet first, and reserve the item. This isn't 1997. You have the internet so why not reserve it first?
Having said that... I agree with the OP @GoryGilmore I found Argos THE best 'go-to' place for most stuff. But this past year and a half it's been a bit shit.
My friend in my street, has been looking in Argos, for an ordinary laptop (under £450,) for the past 3 months. Not a bloody cloudbook or a chromebook; a PROPER laptop, with 1 TB of memory, (and not the shitty 64 GB they keep trying to palm off onto her.)
Half of that is the operating system, and they say you need to save everything online. Trying to get an ordinary laptop at Argos is like trying to plait fog. Not ONE this year. Plenty of naffing 'cloudbooks' and 'chromebooks' but no actual laptops... (unless they are £650+, and even they are hard to come by... with the closest one being an hour's drive away!)
There does seem to be lots of stuff that is advertised, and yet when you look online in your local store, it says 'out of stock... prepared to drive further? Look at other stores...' You can look at all the Argos stores within 300 miles, and no store has it in. Why fucking advertise it then!?
Argos has gone to shit for sure. The stock levels/supply is wank. And as many posters have said, it's not a covid/lockdown issue, because it was going to shit in 2019.
