£500 one off payment tax credits.

Apologies for not posting in the right area but thought it may reach a lot of people!

Dp got a text today to say that one off payments of £500 are being paid by 23rd April. I didn’t think we would be eligible. Is it just a generic text sent to everyone or just those entitled? I thought it was only for those on working tax credits, we only get child tax credits I believe.

To clarify. Dp works and has worked all the way through the pandemic and earns around £30,000 a year. I am currently a stay at home mum to out two children who both have additional needs. The bulk of our child tax credits are based on my children receiving disability living allowance rather than dp’s earnings. We do get some based on his earnings though.

I am really clueless 😂 I thought tax credits were eventually being changed over to universal credit too. We still get ‘tax credits’ and not universal credit.

Advice for a confused mum.

We own our own home and don’t get any other benefits apart from the DLA my children get and the tax credits (obviously child benefit too). £500 would be very appreciated!

Tia.

I haven’t received payment as of yet and I got the message! Could go in Monday my bank is rubbish doesn’t show pending payments

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 09:20

OK, great that some are getting the £500 but didn’t ever get WTC... but doesn’t that mean that your CTC would have had the uplift last year? It is such a complicated system isn’t it?!

TheGumption · 16/04/2021 09:23

Nope. Our CTC stayed the same throughout.

Emmy93 · 16/04/2021 09:25

My mum received her £500 today 😊

AwFeebs · 16/04/2021 09:25

Mine also went in this morning. It's a big help. We only get some CTC not WTC.

LoopyLoo91 · 16/04/2021 09:26

What bank are you with? I didnt recieve anything today either & I also recieved the message that others seemed to get.

SJM2580 · 16/04/2021 09:34

I’m with NatWest, nothings gone in for me 😩

LoopyLoo91 · 16/04/2021 09:37

I'm with Santander... Theres always next week I guess. I recieve very little CTC and no WTC but recieved the Tx around 2 weeks ago.

TheGumption · 16/04/2021 09:39

Don't worry, there's still a week to go until the deadline they gave. Don't lose hope.

Magnificentmug12 · 16/04/2021 09:49

I wouldn’t worry if you didn’t get it today, doesn’t mean anything. You have up to 23rd.

Emmy93 · 16/04/2021 09:51

My mums with Halifax

Emmy93 · 16/04/2021 09:53

Also my mum get £20 a week child tax credit, and no working tax credits and still received it, she was eligible for working tax credits but wasn't receiving it due to how much she earned one month so they got stopped and haven't received anything since.

xxlala7xx · 16/04/2021 09:54

I'm with nationwide and got it today. Never received a letter or txt saying I would. I only receive ctc also. Made me happy gal this morning.

LizBennet · 16/04/2021 09:58

I didn’t get an extra £20, my Working Tax is only £11 a week anyway (I got the £500 this morning though, Yorkshire Bank).

EvilOnion · 16/04/2021 11:05

We're the same @LizBennet, £11 a week CTC for 2 kids that weirdly didn't start until Covid struck but doesn't seem to tally in with the £20 a week "extra". No WTC either.

Justmoveonin · 16/04/2021 11:27

Mine arrived this morning! So relieved

Justmoveonin · 16/04/2021 11:28

@Justmoveonin

Mine arrived this morning! So relieved
Santander btw. I had my normal TCs paid on Wednesday
Skymum82 · 16/04/2021 11:28

We didn't get the extra £20
Either assuming people only getting wtc did. However got the £500

Isaidnope · 16/04/2021 11:37

Did everyone’s appear shortly after midnight or at random times during the day? I still keep checking hoping it will suddenly appear throughout the day.

CoffeeRunner · 16/04/2021 12:12

I've just gone to login to my app to view my future weekly payments & it's saying "payments being processed" and "no payments due".

Has anyone else had this? I haven't changed any details recently.

BluePeterVag · 16/04/2021 12:58

Please will those of you who get the money consider emailing your MPs to explain the difference this will make to your family? You don’t need massive details, but it would be really useful if MPs know that this matters to their constituents and their families.

QuestionableDanceMoves · 16/04/2021 13:12

I get both ctc and wtc and haven’t had any increases over the last year- I thought universal credit claimants had had the £20 a week uplift due to covid and the £500 was for those of us on the “old” system because it hadn’t had the uplift

bingshead · 16/04/2021 13:46

I just got my £500 payment, I'm with Co-op Bank.

The £500 was for those on tax credits this year and it's a replacement for the £20pw uplift which people on UC are getting this year. But I did get a £20pw uplift last year on tax credits as well, so people on WTC (who weren't earning too much) would have got the same as those on UC last year.

I've read that if you switch from tax credits to UC after getting the £500 payment, you can still get the £20pw uplift this year on UC as the £500 payment isn't taken into account. But I wouldn't want to switch to UC as I'd be worse off overall (am self-employed).

LoopyLoo91 · 16/04/2021 14:09

So people are still getting their payments now? All different times of day?

Debz64 · 16/04/2021 15:23

I never recieved my Text until 1st April 21 so there is still time :) xx
