£500 one off payment tax credits.

Apologies for not posting in the right area but thought it may reach a lot of people!

Dp got a text today to say that one off payments of £500 are being paid by 23rd April. I didn’t think we would be eligible. Is it just a generic text sent to everyone or just those entitled? I thought it was only for those on working tax credits, we only get child tax credits I believe.

To clarify. Dp works and has worked all the way through the pandemic and earns around £30,000 a year. I am currently a stay at home mum to out two children who both have additional needs. The bulk of our child tax credits are based on my children receiving disability living allowance rather than dp’s earnings. We do get some based on his earnings though.

I am really clueless 😂 I thought tax credits were eventually being changed over to universal credit too. We still get ‘tax credits’ and not universal credit.

Advice for a confused mum.

We own our own home and don’t get any other benefits apart from the DLA my children get and the tax credits (obviously child benefit too). £500 would be very appreciated!

Tia.

I got mine this morning. Cycle and etc normally paid on a Wednesday.
I didn’t get a letter or text so this was a nice surprise

Magnificentmug12 · 16/04/2021 07:29

I got mine! I got mine!!

OMG! I’m sooooo thankful!! We never get anything and I just can’t believe it. This is going to help sooooo much!

BanginChoons · 16/04/2021 07:37

Mine is in too. I am with Barcays. I get ctc and have just stopped getting wtc in April die to my earnings. I didn't get the text.

CookPassBabtridge · 16/04/2021 07:37

Ours is in, if yours isn't then there's still until 23rd April.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 16/04/2021 07:45

Mine is in, I get my ctc and wtc paid 4 weekly and today was my 4 weekly payment day.

Isaidnope · 16/04/2021 07:50

Mine isn’t in either, pretty gutted.

TheChild · 16/04/2021 07:54

@Isaidnope

Mine isn’t in either, pretty gutted.
On the other thread there are people who can see the pending payment who can see it pending today to be in their account on Monday, so there is still a good chance you will get the payment! It's up to the 23rd 😊🤞
Erad12 · 16/04/2021 07:59

Mine went in today! 🥳.

Thegreymethod · 16/04/2021 08:01
@Thegreymethod I’m so pleased for you ❤️❤️
Thank you. I'm so happy, woke up feeling happy instead of worry for the first time in ages! Hope everyone else waiting gets theirs soon

Isaidnope · 16/04/2021 08:01

I asked Barclays in a live chat and the person I spoke to couldn’t see anything but I asked HMRC if I will receive it in a live chat yesterday and they said I would. I know there’s still a week to go but it was processed on Wednesday so I was really hopeful it would be today Sad.

Brightermornings · 16/04/2021 08:04

Mine was paid in today. I'm with santander. I am shocked I got it. But I get nothing for the next tax year.

CeeJay81 · 16/04/2021 08:14

Mines gone in today too. it is certainly very helpful when your on a low income 😀

EvilOnion · 16/04/2021 08:16

Ours is in today, have been getting a small CTC payment on Tuesdays - (low/average) joint income household both working 16 hours+ but no WTC.

Payments might be processed in batches so one batch this week and the other next week. I'm sure most people will get something :)

Really pleased as we'd burned through our small savings with an unexpected payment last month so this will top it up a little!

Anjaya · 16/04/2021 08:36

I recieved payment today. Didn't get a text though and my usual pay day is on a Tuesday.

TheGumption · 16/04/2021 08:36

Just to update, ours came this morning.

TheGumption · 16/04/2021 08:37

Grrr sent too soon. We don't get WTC but we do get CTC with disability element for one child.

Grapewrath · 16/04/2021 08:37

Mine went in- I didn’t get a text and don’t receive WTC

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 08:48

Am sure this must have been covered upthread, but just to put it here, PLEASE remember that although it’s great to have £500 land in your bank account, this is only to temporarily offset the drop in Tax Credits
of £20 a week as they end the Covid extra support. Se eg the second paragraph here:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/money/one-off-payment-500-pound-tax-credits-support-hmrc-when-23-april-eligible-938472/amp

I think HMRC should have reminded recipients of that in their text message!

UnalliterativeGeorge · 16/04/2021 08:52

Well I definitely didn't get an extra £20 so it is effectively bonus money in our house.

EvilOnion · 16/04/2021 09:00

Absolutely agree @JanFebAnyMonth, not necessarily on this thread but lots are assuming this is free money when its to cover the cuts that are coming.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 09:04

And only to cover approx 6 months of the cuts EvilOnion

Magnificentmug12 · 16/04/2021 09:04

I didn’t get a extra £20 so it’s a bonus to me.

Magnificentmug12 · 16/04/2021 09:05

We was entitled to WTC but didn’t get it due to earning too much so we never got the extra £20. So this £500 is a bonus to some.

x2boys · 16/04/2021 09:11

I got mine wasent sure we would be entitled but very greatful ,it's very handy right now

TheGumption · 16/04/2021 09:17

We didn't get the extra £20 either so that's neither here nor there to us.
