£500 one off payment tax credits.

Apologies for not posting in the right area but thought it may reach a lot of people!

Dp got a text today to say that one off payments of £500 are being paid by 23rd April. I didn’t think we would be eligible. Is it just a generic text sent to everyone or just those entitled? I thought it was only for those on working tax credits, we only get child tax credits I believe.

To clarify. Dp works and has worked all the way through the pandemic and earns around £30,000 a year. I am currently a stay at home mum to out two children who both have additional needs. The bulk of our child tax credits are based on my children receiving disability living allowance rather than dp’s earnings. We do get some based on his earnings though.

I am really clueless 😂 I thought tax credits were eventually being changed over to universal credit too. We still get ‘tax credits’ and not universal credit.

Advice for a confused mum.

We own our own home and don’t get any other benefits apart from the DLA my children get and the tax credits (obviously child benefit too). £500 would be very appreciated!

Tia.

Would we qualify,my DH works full time on just over minimum wage,he doesn't currently get WTC as I get carers allowance and it takes us just over the threshold,we do get CTC ,have had WTC in the past and we occasionally get a small payment at the end of the tax year .

earlydoors42 · 15/04/2021 08:57

My £500 payment is pending in my banking app for payment tomorrow. We get CTC but not WTC as earn too much.

Isaidnope · 15/04/2021 08:58

I got the generic sounding text about a one off payment a couple of weeks ago so I’m guessing this means we qualify. We get CTC but not WTC because DH earns too much. I keep checking every morning!

x2boys · 15/04/2021 09:09

Fingers crossed than we normally get the child tax credits on a Monday ,it would be very welcome right now

SJM2580 · 15/04/2021 09:30

I had the text on April 1st and I only get a weekly CTC payment, I work 33hrs but don’t get WFTC. I keep checking every morning but nothing yet. My bank doesn’t ever show payments pending to go in but I’m hoping it’ll go in soon. So frustrating not knowing if I’ll get it.

Isaidnope · 15/04/2021 09:32

I spoke to someone on web chat earlier and he said if you got the text, you’ll get the payment Smile.

Cbe07 · 15/04/2021 09:53

I can’t see pending payments with my bank but web chat this morning they said my £500 has been issued so hopefully get it tomorrow or Monday.

SJM2580 · 15/04/2021 10:53

I’ve just spoken via web chat too, the adviser said that the system doesn’t say when the payment is issued but it does confirm that i am getting it I will receive it by 23rd. The adviser said I will get a text when it’s been paid???

Dizzydream · 15/04/2021 11:15

I honestly can't see the point in me waiting to speak to someone as I'm not sure if you can believe a word they say everyone gets told something different

EvilOnion · 15/04/2021 11:29

It's on the HMRC website!

If, on the 2nd March 2021, you were:
Receiving WTC
Receiving CTC and eligible for WTC but reduced to £0 payments due to income being too high

You will receive the £500 one off top up before the 23/04/21.

It's not hard to find, I really do feel sorry for the advisors answering the same questions over and over again when Google will throw the answer right out for them 🤣

Dizzydream · 15/04/2021 11:40

It doesn't actually say you will recieve the payment it says you may which is where I think the confusion comes in

wendz86 · 15/04/2021 11:41

On the website it says

You may get a one-off, tax-free payment of £500 if, on 2 March 2021, you were getting either:

Working Tax Credit
Child Tax Credit and were eligible for Working Tax Credit but you did not get a payment because your income is too high to get Working Tax Credit payments

It doesn't say you definitely will which is why people are unsure.

Erad12 · 15/04/2021 11:46

Just did a web chat with hmrc. I was told we will receive the payment within the next 8 days but they couldn't tell me if it had been processed or not. We receive child tax credits only as working tax credits it reduced to 0 because earnings are to high xxx

How did you get that clear answer from them? I had a webchat and they said they could not advise people if it will be paid or not ?
CoffeeRunner · 15/04/2021 14:49

I just tried the webchat. Totally unhelpful.

Refused to look at my account. Just said if I'm eligible it will be in my account by the 23rd.

ihavethehighground · 15/04/2021 14:50

@CoffeeRunner why are some people getting a straight answer and some not ?

CoffeeRunner · 15/04/2021 14:54

@ihavethehighground I did ask the advisor that. He kept saying that if I was eligible I would get it by the 23rd!

Bufferingkisses · 15/04/2021 15:03

Mine is showing as pending in my bank Smile

It stands out as it is HMRC C19 SUPPORT rather than the usual payee name.

Erad12 · 15/04/2021 15:03

@ihavethehighground i was quite persistent, think my advisor was called sharon. She went through basic details (ni number, dob, address etc) and looked into my file xxx

Erad12 · 15/04/2021 15:05

Found this on twitter aswell xxxx

£500 one off payment tax credits.
Bufferingkisses · 15/04/2021 15:06

To add I haven't had a letter or text and receive CTC and a tiny amount of WTC on the 2nd March (now stopped due to April 1% pay rise)

Isaidnope · 15/04/2021 15:09

I think it depends who you get through to on the webchat. I got through to someone at 8AM who didn’t even ask me for any details, just said if I’d received that generic sounding text then I will be eligible. I tried again this afternoon and was asked straight away for my NI number, name and DOB. She told me it was processed yesterday and will be in my bank by the 23rd. If it was processed via BACS it should theoretically be in everyone’s bank by tomorrow rather than as late as the 23rd, I’m hoping this is the case.

CoffeeRunner · 15/04/2021 15:19

I'm trying again....

ihavethehighground · 15/04/2021 15:20

I've cracked this everyone !!!
Go to webchat.
Ask why your tax credit has gone down.
They ask for Nat insurance number etc.
Then ask if you will get the £500.
I got a yes and the date it will be paid

CoffeeRunner · 15/04/2021 15:25

15 in the queue currently..
