"The general view is people have had quite a few days off, and it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to see their way round to making a passing stab at getting back into the office." Boris Johnson.

Ah, the view of a privileged and wealthy white male who hasn't tried to be all things at once.

It's massively lacking in understanding of what a hell of a lot of people have gone through over the past year.

dreamingbohemian · 28/03/2021 13:43

Days off????????

Fuck off Boris

ThePlantsitter · 28/03/2021 13:43

"days off" hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

WellThisIsShit · 28/03/2021 13:44

Deeply ignorant man. And we voted him in...

thepeopleversuswork · 28/03/2021 13:45

It’s incredibly disrespectful but what do you expect from someone like this?

The lockdown and home schools initiative was engineered by a government which constrains one female member and which is characterised by public school boys who have wives and domestic help to organise all that. They took as read when they closed schools that there will always be a woman at home scratching her arse with nothing better to do.

The lack of consideration for women throughout COVID had set us back about 30 years and if we want to regain any of the advances we have made we need to stop listening to the rhetoric from these clowns.

Bluntness100 · 28/03/2021 13:47

I don’t get why this is about women homeschooling? A fuck ton of people have been furloughed, some for the best part of a ‘year, so yeah getting back to work is a good thing cor many, not more holidays.

What’s he supposed to say “ well obvs exc women (not men though) who have wfh and homeschooled”

Honestly are you just looking to be offended.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 28/03/2021 13:47

It’s a stupid thing for him to say, because it will wind up all the many people who’ve been overstretched for the last year, especially parents. But as a population we have had a huge amount of time off of course. I assumed he’s referring to everyone who’s been on furlough.

I agree.
Ofallthethings · 28/03/2021 13:48

WFH isn't a day off, particularly if you're home schooling at same time. Total ignorance. He really needs to learn to think before he speaks, his off the cuff and ill thought out remarks are very tiresome, and obviously not in keeping with his position.
Many workplaces are looking at permanent part time WFH options anyway so him/Rishi cannot force this issue.

RolloTomassi · 28/03/2021 13:49

It's always wound me up that Boris has only EVER acknowledged NHS workers. It's obviously quite right they are praised - but he's almost the opposite with any other worker, all of whom are working hard under immense pressure, and paying taxes to keep this shitshow going.

Now, not only is there no word of acknowledgment for home-schooling working parents, he implies it's been one big jolly! Prat.

MiaMc · 28/03/2021 13:49

“Days off” ???
For furloughed staff maybe, but for those who’ve carried on with their normal jobs from home (plus homeschooling for some of the time!) - not a chance.
The man clearly hasn’t a fucking clue.

ThePlantsitter · 28/03/2021 13:51

I don't think it's just about homeschooling. The government TOLD people to stay at home. They didn't give people holidays as a favour. It's not actually the case that people are cringing at home too feckless to go and do an honest day's work (with I'm sure a few exceptions). The people I know who were furloughed actually took it quite hard as it made them feel useless.

The message should be a much more positive 'hurray we can all start doing things again' not 'stop lounging about'.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 28/03/2021 13:52

Words cannot express my dismay at the portion of the electorate who voted for that utter bastard.

mbosnz · 28/03/2021 13:55

Ah, the epitome of an overprivileged, conceited popinjay of an elitist male chauvinist pig, giving voice, yet again to how fucking tone deaf and out of touch he is to the experience of the hoi polloi and rabble he and his cronies rely upon to do the grunt work that keeps them in child support payments.

You're right.

He's being disrespectful to all of us.

I should have put an "especially" in there.

On Saturday, at the Conservatives' virtual spring forum, the prime minister was asked whether the UK can have a bank holiday called "national hangover day" once the pandemic subsides.

But Mr Johnson put down the suggestion, responding: "The general view is people have had quite a few days off, and it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to see their way round to making a passing stab at getting back into the office."

^ reads a bit differently (and somewhat more reasonably) in context though, doesn't it?

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 28/03/2021 14:01

It’s hilarious. I work for a government agency, and my entire national team has been home based for over 25 years. Providing advice to government every single day. He has no idea how anything actually works.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 28/03/2021 14:03

As said by a person who quite literally works from home.

Nice to think that he's obviously having a day off every time he isn't physically in an in person meeting - although it does explain why he wasn't having anything to do with the initial COBRA meetings and is frequently absent or late when he's supposed to be somewhere.

I bloody didn’t. Don’t go laying that at my door.
niceupthedance · 28/03/2021 14:04

What a prick.

fiorentina · 28/03/2021 14:05

Agreed, I’ve worked extremely hard the last year as well as helping the kids homeschool, as have so many people I know. Usually working during any commuting time. He’s deluded if he thinks this has been easier than usual.

PrincessNutNuts · 28/03/2021 14:06

People on furlough are doing exactly what they were told to do by Boris Johnson's government.

And they are only a small part of the workforce.

He said "people". Not people on furlough.

His own guidance still says to work from home if you can.

Although he is sending the Shielders back to work this week after only one jab in most cases.

And last year when he urged us back to work it was only a few weeks until Whitty and Vallance were on tv showing their graph of doom at the start of the second wave.

Why can't this government learn?!

I despair.

Women have held their families together whilst working from home in non-ideal circumstances, homeschooling and with additional caring responsibilities.

And Boris Johnson's

"People have had quite a few days off and it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to see their way round to making a passing stab at getting back into the office."

can do one quite frankly.

I haven’t worked for over a year. I would love to go back to work but I don’t see that happening any time soon. If ever given my age

PrincessNutNuts · 28/03/2021 14:09

@DiseasesOfTheSheep

Words cannot express my dismay at the portion of the electorate who voted for that utter bastard.
And defend him now as he does exactly what he did last year to kick off the second wave, squandering all our efforts throughout lockdown.
