To only just found out that Morrisons do the best donuts?!

We don't have a big Morrisons next to us, so until yesterday I lived in a naive believe that all donuts are equal! How wrong was I! My eldest daughter dropped by to say hello from a safe distance yesterday and brought those magical morsels of pure donut heaven to share with us. I am not ashamed to let you all know that I ate 2 immediately! Now my world has changed, I'm seeing everything in a new light, and with this revelation I am wondering what other wonderful things I'm missing unknowingly ...

Sainsburys doughnuts are the best!

@MiloAndEddie

Sorry but you’re wrong, Sainsbury’s are the best doughnuts

Have to agree.

@Wellpark
No way.
Morning rolls come from the corner shop, delivered fresh every morning and sold out by midday.
I can eat them totally plain they are so good.

I worked at a Morrison’s while doing my a-levels. I used to convince one of the bakery lads to double fill me a box. My dad was quite fond of custard and strawberry jam. I just liked double jam Grin

Morrisons also do a tray of 12 cupcakes which are cheap enough to feed to children and good enough to feed to adults. Wink
I've used them for birthday cakes in Covid times (birthday child only blows on own cake!)

I guess none of you have had Krispy Kreme donuts.

They're grim and not a "proper" doughnut.

You want light fluffy sweet slightly chewy bread dough and some jam and/or sugar.

Not a piece of floofy air drowning in a glaze and all sorts of nonsense on top and inside.

Omg Morrison's scones and apple pies are also amazing. Tried to get an Easter Pizza yesterday, but they didn't have any left.

When I worked in Morrisons well over a decade ago, the doughnut dough used to come in frozen but they were filled and cooked fresh in store. They are amazing, and I always get some on the rare occasion I go into one.

These days I normally only shop on Lidl and their Berliner style doughnuts are nice but very different to ones that are cooked fresh.

I like the doughnuts that are cooked fresh at the seaside and thrown in a bag of sugar!

You are all making me feel so hungry. I haven’t been in a shop for the last 6 weeks as I was told to shield and when we do our food shop we try to buy food that we should eat. Buying doughnuts is definitely an impulse buy.

@ElderMillennial

A lot of cakes are frozen such as the cakes and muffins they sell in coffee shops

They are defrosted before they are displayed for sale

And the "freshly baked" Subway rolls. Well they are freshly baked, but certainly not freshly made.

I seem to have touched a nerve mentioning Krispy Kreme. I'm an American so have never tried a donut from Morrisons, Sainsburys, or Aldi. I assumed that none of you had tried Krispy Kreme because it's an American chain.

I do rather like their plain/glazed donuts though. Smile

Morrison’s used to be the best when they did toffee donuts back in the 90’s now they are small without much filling and they don’t do toffee anymore!

I guess none of you have had Krispy Kreme donuts.

They are very overpriced and sickly. They sell them in my local Tesco

I like just a plain ring doughnut with caster sugar on. Don’t like it with icing sugar if that is what powdered sugar is. I used to like Greggs ones but not had one for ages. I also like the ring doughnut from Greggs with white icing. I don’t like any fillings. Maybe Apple at a push. I can take a Krispy Kreme plain glazed one but they are too expensive.

Morrisons are definitely the best see also :
Morrisons Egg custard tarts
Closely followed by a Greggs pink jammie

Krispy Kreme in the USA only - far too expensive in the UK

I'm going to send them a message on Facebook with a picture of one (we have 2 left) as I won't be heading that way for a while.

We do have US brands here, for example we also have Dunkin' Donuts. As well as Starbucks, Subway, etc

M&S jam dougnuts and Tesco. simple. Perfect

@thecatmother

They are just the right kind of doughy, juicy and rolled in proper powder sugar!!!

See, I'd agree with all of this other than the sugar. They WOULD be perfect if they had proper, slightly crunchy sugar (caster?).

Never ever should we give up our donut beauties for nasty Krispi Cremes.

Not everything from US is better than ours ... especially this.

@Mydogisagentleman

DD spent all of last year after her A levels ere abandoned working in Morrison’s.
Her best job was being donut girl.
6am to 12.00 cooking, filling and wrapping donuts.
She used to bring home her specials. Usually double filled jam, but occasionally jam and custard, or apple and custard

Apple and custard donuts are my dream donut. I don't understand why these aren't a common thing.
