It’s the EASTER HOLIDAYS not ‘half term’

AIBU to be annoyed by people calling the Easter holidays ‘half term holidays? It’s the END of the term...! Half term holidays are October, Feb and May. Not a big deal I know but it niggles at me 🙄

Why do you care so much? Honestly, the things people worry about in the world amazes me.

Shoppingwithmother · 27/03/2021 15:51

I know what you mean- people seem to think that “half term” means the same as “school holidays”. I can’t get that worked up about it though.

whoamitojudge · 27/03/2021 15:51

Really??? Just let it go Hmm

Heartofstrings · 27/03/2021 15:55

I keep getting muddled and calling Easter half term this year Grin

LolaSmiles · 27/03/2021 15:57

ballsdeep
I'd hardly call a light hearted, slightly petty moan on AIBU to be someone worrying about it.

For a start, the OP says it isn't a bit deal & it's just niggling her.

bilbodog · 27/03/2021 15:58

Niggles me too OP and my kids are grown up 🤣🤣🤣

Soubriquet · 27/03/2021 16:00

Pedants corner is that way >>>

I call it half term and summer holidays

Everyone I know does

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 27/03/2021 16:02

I think school has been all over the place recently so it's hard to know what's what. Did they have half term? Or were they home schooling at the time. I don't even know any more.

Miseryl · 27/03/2021 16:02

I find it annoying when it's parents of school age children as it seems like they don't have a clue about something which is very obvious.

Otherwise I don't expect people to correctly differentiate.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 27/03/2021 16:03

It's been happening a lot over the past few years. All the school holidays except the summer ones are being called half term. As a teacher it does grate a bit as the half terms happen half way through the term and at the end of the term you have the Christmas and Easter holidays. That is how it always was in my experience so I don't know why it changed!

BusySittingDown · 27/03/2021 16:04

I'm totally with you OP. It drives me bananas!

Summer holidays, Oct half term, Christmas holidays, Feb half term, Easter holidays, May half term!

It's not a half term, it's the end of a full term that began in January.

RuthieW84 · 27/03/2021 16:08

Yes, I think it’s also because some teacher friends have also started saying it I find it irritating- (irrationally really I know...)

OP posts:
bananamonster · 27/03/2021 16:10

People are daft. They don’t understand that half term means halfway through the term.

RuthieW84 · 27/03/2021 16:10

😂 I know it’s pedantic but it is also the case that the school year IS arranged into three distinct terms that make it incorrect to call the holidays between the full terms ‘half term’ happy for you to carry on using the wrong term (🤣) for it but I will judge.....😆

OP posts:
RuthieW84 · 27/03/2021 16:11

Same reason you cared enough to write that response to the post 😂

Thunderpunt · 27/03/2021 16:12

Having not worked properly for over a year now and trying to cope with/encourage home schooling 2 surly teens I barely know what fucking day it is let alone what point in the school year it is....

RuLu · 27/03/2021 16:13

I totally agree. I find it so frustrating. Half term takes place half way through a term!

onemouseplace · 27/03/2021 16:16

This sort of thing annoys me as well OP - it's not exactly a difficult concept after all.

BusySittingDown · 27/03/2021 16:17

I actually have quite a lot on my plate at the moment. I still have little things that niggle at me from time to time. It's ok to care about the small things from time to time.

Sometimes people feel the need to share their musings with strangers on the internet. It's allowed you know - it's a public forum. It doesn't mean that they don't have bigger things going on in RL. It's just light hearted!

HollysBush · 27/03/2021 16:18

At least they’re not calling it spring break...

trappedsincesundaymorn · 27/03/2021 16:18

Easter holiday or half term, makes no difference really you're getting time off either way...lucky you.

SplendidSuns1000 · 27/03/2021 16:20

You doing okay hun? You really don't sound like you are

MirandaWest · 27/03/2021 16:20

I am annoyed by it - half term is half way through the term.

WandaMaximoff · 27/03/2021 16:23

YANBU there are only three half terms in a school year.

Andylion · 27/03/2021 16:25

@bananamonster

People are daft. They don’t understand that half term means halfway through the term.
This kind of thing bothers me. People actually don't know what they are saying. Things don't have proper meanings anymore.
