It’s the EASTER HOLIDAYS not ‘half term’

AIBU to be annoyed by people calling the Easter holidays ‘half term holidays? It’s the END of the term...! Half term holidays are October, Feb and May. Not a big deal I know but it niggles at me 🙄

OP posts:
earthyfire · 27/03/2021 17:19

I can't get worked up over things like this but it reminds me of something schools write in emails "have a nice half term" or "hope you all had a nice half term"...err no, I was working. Grin

As pp - Bring on 4, 5 or 6 term year, then everything’s a holiday!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/03/2021 17:34

It does annoy me, even though I know it shouldn’t really!

I haven't heard a single SOUL refer to the upcoming Easter Holiday as 'half term...' Confused
FireflyRainbow · 27/03/2021 17:42

Bit bored are you op 😆

nokidshere · 27/03/2021 17:47

Everyone knows there are only two types of time when you are at school don't they. It's school or school hols.

Londonnight · 27/03/2021 18:06

It annoys me too. These holidays haven't changed since I was at school in the 70's, so it's not like it's a new thing.
Half terms are February, May and October.

Easter is a school holiday, Summer is a school holiday and Christmas is a school holiday

Shrivelled · 27/03/2021 18:58

Nobody uses incorrect holiday nomenclature around these parts. Grin

catsandchaos · 27/03/2021 19:00

They just went back and are off again

JackieTheFart · 27/03/2021 19:02

OMG my husband does this, I KNOW it’s not important, I KNOW it really doesn’t matter....but it still bugs me! Daft, I know.

seashells11 · 27/03/2021 19:03

Yanbu, Easter just has a lovely sound to it. It distinguishes it from other holidays. For me it's also reminiscent of happy childhood times.

DisneyMillie · 27/03/2021 19:03

It really irrationally bugs me too! It’s NOT half way through the term

VestaTilley · 27/03/2021 19:04

YANBU. My DSis always calls all the holidays “half term”. Including the summer ones! Drives me mad.

Shieldingending · 27/03/2021 19:05

It annoys me too !!

RaskolnikovsGarret · 27/03/2021 19:05

YANBU. Not pedantic at all. What those people are saying is factually incorrect. I don’t know a single person who calls the end of term holidays half-term, because they’re not. Very odd.

Sidewalksue · 27/03/2021 19:06

DH calls all holidays ‘mid-term’ drives me bananas.

Barton10 · 27/03/2021 19:36

Irritates me too!

OneKeyAtATime · 27/03/2021 22:52

This year it feels like half term because of the school closures!

Howshouldibehave · 27/03/2021 22:56

You are not alone, OP-this really annoys me as well! I’ve seen posts on here calling the Easter holidays ‘half term’, very recently.

If you genuinely can’t cope with knowing what the difference is-just call them all the school holidays, rather than calling them all half terms!

funnylittlefloozie · 27/03/2021 23:00

@Soubriquet

Pedants corner is that way >>>

I call it half term and summer holidays

Everyone I know does

Is everyone you know Mrs Dim from Dimsville, or her relatives?
Trekkerbabe · 27/03/2021 23:00

Its holidays but It feels like half term because the kids have been back at school for one month not three fgs. Why does it matter anyway? Why post such an asinine question if you dont care?

Norwaydidnthappen · 27/03/2021 23:03

It really doesn’t matter. Feels like half term because they’ve spent most of the year at home...

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 27/03/2021 23:07

Irrationally yes! Half term means precisely that.... half way through a term!!!!

End of term = Christmas break ,Easter break s d Summer (end if year) .

Keep telling myself why does it matter? But annoying and I cant even explain why, it's just cod they are wrong!

MrsPernicious · 27/03/2021 23:11

If you want to get really upset, Google your council site and check if Easter is at the end of term 2 or 4.

Niconacotaco · 27/03/2021 23:11

I'm in Scotland. At our school we have a different name for every holiday - September weekend, October week (which I think is half term), Christmas, Easter, May Day, end of May holiday. Feb weekend might be referred to as February half term. Everything is oddly specific.
