‘D’H has announced that Covid doesn’t exist.

Name changed for this.

One year since lockdown 1 began and DH has announced that Covid does not exist.

The illness is ‘no different to flu’, he is not having the vaccine because ‘he doesn’t need to’ and if he falls ill with any symptoms listed as Covid he will not be taking a test and will phone in sick with backache or some such nonsense.

AIBU to think WTF?
Apparently he has thought this all along and decided to let us know as he is sick of ‘having his freedom taken away from him’.

What started as a chat about weekly testing ended up with this.

I don’t know what to do with this information. All year (pre. weekly testing /vaccine rollout) he’s just gone along with it all.

So, along with AIBU to think he has lost his mind, WWYD or say in this situation?

Yes it can give false positive but he is incorrect that it will test positive for all colds / flu .
He is in denial and I don’t want to name call because I believe there is a reason for this and if that’s his opinion then fine .
I disagree with anyone deciding to put anyone’s health at risk by refusing tests and refusing the vaccine I simply haven’t got time for people like that .
I’m sorry you have to live with someone so ignorant but if he won’t listen then you do what you do and leave him to it .

FlyingBurrito · 27/03/2021 13:24

@RootyT00t

I know many other sensible, rational, brilliant people who believe this. It's worrying.
They clearly aren't any of those things then are they? They may appear to have been before but now you know differently.
PerveenMistry · 27/03/2021 13:24

@ktp100

What an absolute bell end.

It's pig headed fuckers like him who'll drag this shit out for all of us.

This is so true.

OutOfLine · 27/03/2021 13:26

@MiaChia

NRTFT - but you say he's highly qualified academically. That's unbelievable. What sort of qualifications does he have? I honestly thought he must have very low educational attainments, which is fine, but if he's academically gifted then I would be looking into obtaining urgent mental health intervention for him because he's behaving very oddly and putting other people at risk with his sudden non compliance.
He won’t use tests and won’t have the vaccine. He is compliant with lockdown.

Encourage him to make plans to see his family. Encourage him to plan pub lunches/dinners from next month.

The person I know who kept saying things like this is an alcoholic and has suffered depression in the past. I don't think she could cope with reality.

People are losing the plot left right and centre
I think you’re right printemps

I've got 2 coworkers out with long covid, one for a full year, one for half a year so far. Another one off now hit very badly and can only be up for short periods of time; been like this for a few weeks.

Also know a man who's only just 40 and reasonably fit and healthy who had to be rushed to hospital with oxygen levels at awful levels a couple of weeks ago. He was terribly ill and has only just come home this last week. He's still now well.

Your husband is a fool.

RootyT00t · 27/03/2021 13:28

@FlyingBurrito not necessarily, Flying.

I'm slightly more compassionate to the mental health pandemic and the effect it can have.

OutOfLine · 27/03/2021 13:29

I don’t think he sees that happening sadly!
He hasn’t seen them for over a year due to travel restrictions.

OP posts:

These restrictions will still be in place.

He can’t get past the fact that this vaccine hasn’t been trialled

Sigh...

It has been trialled. I was part of one of the clinical trials last year. He is talking dangerous shit.

I'd leave him.

Figgygal · 27/03/2021 13:31

I couldn’t live with someone so wilfully ignorant
I’d not respect him and therefore couldn’t love him
Maybe he would think differently if he caught it

Your post doesn't mention mental health Confused

I posted above that mental health issues might explain it but I don't have a crystal ball to know that the friends you posted about have those issues if you don't actually type that.

YanTanTethera123 · 27/03/2021 13:32

He may be very intelligent but he completely lacks common sense 😡
Sadly that appe

RootyT00t · 27/03/2021 13:32

Well, @FlyingBurrito, I think we can assume that if people go from being intelligent and switched on and all round good people to being Covid deniers (odd behaviour), mental health is involved.

So I wouldn't write them off and decide they are no longer those things.

YanTanTethera123 · 27/03/2021 13:33

Oops! ...appears to be applicable to many others.

OutOfLine · 27/03/2021 13:33

It’s the length of the trial noir. He says other vaccines took years to develop and trials were over a period of years (true). 😓

I don't think your husband actually said it doesn't exist. Maybe you should actually listen to what he is saying.

justasking111 · 27/03/2021 13:36

LTB because he does not agree with his wife. What are some of you sniffing. They do not agree end of. Do your spouses have to agree with you each and every time. You sound like my MIL.

user1471439310 · 27/03/2021 13:37

24 year old thinks it's over blown. The virus is just like the flu, when my daughter and son in law got it and their symptoms were mild he told me "see I told you everything is ok". He got his vaccine a week ago because he lives with us, my husband has some health issues and he just humored me. You'll never have him see it your way. I think too many on this site say leave a spouse but how many actually do.

OutOfLine · 27/03/2021 13:37

I wasn’t aware you were in the room!

He told me that COVID does not exist.
Those exact words.
He said that what people are now calling COVID is just FLU.
The exact same thing.
FLU exists ‘COVID’ doesn’t.

Youngsters see things like that. We know this, we've all been like that.

He hasn’t seen them for over a year due to travel restrictions.

The travel restrictions have not been for a solid twelve months, they have waxed and waned dependent on the circumstances at the time, he could have seen them last summer ffs.
amc8583 · 27/03/2021 13:39

Sadly there are many people who deny the severity of covid. I'm sure many of us have experienced people with those views in our own lives. We also know of others in the news who have denied the virus and then contracted it and died.

Sadly, I think there is nothing you can do about your husband. Its amazing the number of people who think like him. Like I said on another thread, people like him need to witness what my friends and family have witnessed in ITU, I'm sure they would change their minds quite quickly.

FlyingBurrito · 27/03/2021 13:39

@OutOfLine

There is absolutely loads of reputable information about why the vaccine trials were able to be done more quickly

The same amount of trialling was done but the delays of developing vaccines for commercial reasons weren't a feature of this. Money was thrown at the development to remove the normal fund raising delays for example, other steps didn't have to wait in the normal queues

Is there a reason he isn't able to read any of this information.

Saying the trials were done too quickly is a sure fire indicator of someone who doesn't understand the basics.
