To have mostly preloved clothes for baby?

I've namechanged for this.

I'm young and I'm 31 weeks pregnant. I've bought preloved body suits/baby grows. None are brand new. I have brought him a brand new car seat and pram. My mum said I shouldn't have brought second hand as it isn't fair on son and people will think I'm a lazy mum who doesn't like to spend money on my child. I've told her it was mine and my boyfriends decision and he will be wearing newborn at first anyway so I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on clothes to only be worn a couple of times. She still thinks I'm BU

YANBU There are far more useful things you can spend your money on than clothes they will be in for a few weeks.

My mum has a real issue with my kids having second hand clothes she doesnt even like dd2 having dd1's hand me downs. I just smile and nod and dress my kids in whatever i want. As long as the clothes arent stained and ripped i dont have a problem with it. Ive never actually bought second hand clothes but my friendship group all pass clothes on that our kids have outgrown.

YANBU

I'd think you were a sensible mum, prioritising finances on things that really matter.

People will buy you new stuff. No need for you to buy new, baby won't know what's second hand and what isn't! If you have a big baby they might not even fit in newborn size

I don' think either DC have ever had any news clothes bought by me. And I've only ever bought new mattresses and carseats, 99% of other stuff was second hand. I can afford new, I just don't see the point!
