I cannot stand the relentless drivel that is Zoe Ball oh my god yesterday Stacey Soloman and her diatribe of awfulness and now replacing Graham Norton with Claudia just why ? I am Mrs Brady moany old lady for sure what else can I listen to 🥴

OP posts:

Ken Bruce is the only remaining presenter I can stand. Steve Wright should be pushed under Ken's double decker bus. In the car we usually listen to recordings of Radcliffe and Maconie's weekend shows.

VestaTilley · 25/03/2021 12:05

YANBU. BBC radio is going as downhill as the tv channels. Don’t even get me started on Woman’s Hour.

I mostly now just listen to ancient editions of Desert Island Discs from 30+ years ago Grin

Knitterbabe · 25/03/2021 12:32

I don’t mind Zoe; better than Chris Evans relentlessly promoting his own interests, and dragging his bloody kids into everything.

bobsandbits · 25/03/2021 12:32

Radio 2 seems to be a day of shout outs !

They seem unable to do a show without just reading texts or emails out.

Who are these people who want shout outs ? Why do they want them ?

AnOnly · 25/03/2021 12:53

I love Steve Wright's show, it's just right - funny, calming, right mix of music.

I cannot stand Jeremy Whine - turn that straight off!

Snugglepiggy · 25/03/2021 12:53

Apart from Ken Bruce it's been downhill for the last few years .And I still miss Terry Wogan. He would have got us through pandemic mornings IMO.I am an oldie now but even my DC have said the same.

Arbadacarba · 25/03/2021 12:56

I second the Planet Rock recommendation above - very little chat on the station as a whole and what there is is relevant to the music played.

rattymcratrat · 25/03/2021 13:01

Radio 1 for Greg James and Clara, then switch to radio 2 for Jeremy Vine, then off to 6 music for the rest of the day Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 25/03/2021 13:01

I still love Ken Bruce.

HerBigChance · 25/03/2021 13:08

I still really like Liza Tarbuck's show, there's always something new to me on there.

Crappyfridays7 · 25/03/2021 13:13

I used to listen to Zoe ball on the way to work purely because local radio station only lasts half way to work. I don’t listen properly mind you just enough to pass the time before a long shift. She’s ok, better than Clyde/forth or real radio football mad stations.
Ken Bruce is fine
Jeremy vine I really don’t like - I turn his shoe off.
Like Sara cox, rylan and jo whiley
Don’t like Vanessa feltz but Nikki chapman I do like when she’s on in her place.
Also like the Sunday morning show with Kate and Jason Mohammed.
If I don’t like something I turn it over, sometimes light hearted is fine if you’re not wanting anything too full on. I do find though, phone ins irritating as I can’t hear what is being said very well if the line isn’t clear.

NotATomato · 25/03/2021 13:19

I really like Sara Cox. Vanessa (always pleased when she stands in for Jeremy Vine), Rylan and Liza Tarbuck.

Cannot stand Steve Wright! Stop singing over the bloody songs!!

Cookerhood · 25/03/2021 13:31

I couldn't bear Terry Wogan (sorry!), & Find Ken Bruce similar but I do listen to him if I'm in the car at that time of day. You would have to pay me serious amounts of money to listen to Steve Wright. I cannot understand why he's still given a show.

Chrysanthemum5 · 25/03/2021 13:48

I don't mind the Zoe ball show and she comes across (to me) as a nice person which is more than Chris evens ever did. I like Sara cox, love Vanessa (please dump Jeremy vine and replace him with Vanessa). Also love Ken.

Can't stand claudias new show it's almost unbearable. Steve wright should surely gracefully retire soon.

the80sweregreat · 25/03/2021 14:26

Steve Wright gives me the rage although the non stop oldies isn't too bad.
The serious jocking ( no g) is awful and childish.
He should retire gracefully ( I'll chip in for his watch and the big card)
I think he knows where the bodies are buried to have that job so long and gets paid an absolute fortune to boot.

MsTSwift · 25/03/2021 14:39

I like Vanessa too they should swap her in permanently. Also like Lisa Tarbuck.

The worst are the duo of the comedian man with the nasal voice and the awful northern woman who are sometimes on Saturdays. I turn them off immediately truly dreadful. Prefer the sound of silence!

MsTSwift · 25/03/2021 14:42

Oh and any kid phone ins get immediately switched off. Who the hell wants to listen to other people’s children waffle on?! No one except their own parents and possibly grandparents that’s who.

Swipeleftagain · 25/03/2021 14:42

The difference between Ken and Steve is that Ken is funny.

I like both Zoe Ball and Sara Cox in general but their shows are irritating - Sara is much better on TV. I think a lot of it is the format and the smug gits who call in as much as the presenters. Zoe is also way too full on for a morning show, Ken's gentle humour (like Wogan's) would be much better suited.

IanPayneswife · 25/03/2021 17:37

@@RickOShay I now listen to my local radio station and am a bit in love with the presenter. He’s lovely".

I know what you mean @ricky. I have a similarly lovely presenter that i always tune in to. I am a bit in love with him too!

ShinyMe · 25/03/2021 17:48

Sara Cox is ok, and I love Michael Ball. Steve Wright is atrocious, as is Zoe Ball and Claudia, I can't listen to any of them. And Jeremy Vine's voice is the worst thing ever.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 25/03/2021 17:50

I cannot stand Alexander Armstrong on Classic FM. He makes me feel I have a mental age of 8 or so!

Lampzade · 25/03/2021 17:51

I listen to Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio London. Just the right balance between news and celebrity gossip
Also, she has an extensive vocabulary. DD1 listened to her during lockdown and built up a word bank
I find Zoe a bit too much in the mornings

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 25/03/2021 17:51

Only following most of the rest of the BBC since Greg Dyke was director general. Before him there would not have been the dominance of cheap cookery shows, so-called comedy like Mrs Brown's Boys, or the marginalisation of talent or interesting programmes to graveyard slots.

FontyMcFontface · 25/03/2021 17:53

Serious irritatin’ no g.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 25/03/2021 17:58

Isn't "dumbed down" kind of Radio 2's raison d'etre? It's for people who want some talking, but not the intellectual Radio 4 kind, and also want some music, but don't want to risk hearing anything that isn't a mainstream classic they already know.
