Radio 2 why so dumbed down

I cannot stand the relentless drivel that is Zoe Ball oh my god yesterday Stacey Soloman and her diatribe of awfulness and now replacing Graham Norton with Claudia just why ? I am Mrs Brady moany old lady for sure what else can I listen to 🥴

Jeremy Vine = daily fail ?, he's lefty left as far as the eye can see with far more subtle humour than that average rag reader.

I used to agree but find it really good to listen to while working from home. Absolute 80s is too distracting/happy! Will miss 6Music if/when I go back to working in the office!

I despair of nattering presenters. I want music or information, not chitchat. I can handle chitchat pretty well in person but it makes my skin itch to hear on radio.

I’ve tried to get into 6Music but I just can’t take to it, I find it so boring.

I’ve listened to Simon Mayo’s new drive time show on Greatest Hits and agree with pp, I can’t get over all the adverts. Plus while it’s similar to his R2 gig, it’s NOT the same. I used to really love his chats with celebs, authors etc - proper old fashioned interesting long interviews interrupted by a song or two. The new show had none of that and is too disjointed because he has to stop every 2 minutes for ads.

Zoe Ball and her breathlessness and constant stumbling over words, I just don’t think she’s a very good presenter sorry. I like Sara but she has so dumbed down the drive time slot compared to when Simon did it.

Ken Bruce is the king. When he goes it will be the end for R2.

I actually don’t mind Steve Wright, I know he’s universally hated but I can put up with him. I can even put up with Jezza, I find his bizarre phone in topics funny. “Next, have you ever been trapped in an attic because your loft ladder broke? Email us now.”

It shows how different we all are. I listened to Simon mayos drive time show on radio 2, but wasn't a fan of it really. Far too much chat for my drive home for my preference and wasn't a fan of the confessions either. I prefer more music than chat. I didn't hate the show, it was ok, just didn't get the love for it either. I much prefer Sara cox's drive time show.

That's the thing I suppose, it must be difficult to get the mix right. Some will love certain shows while others dislike them.

But I can't listen to Radio 6 in the car, because it's only on digital, not FM You can listen through your phone in the car. My car is ancient and hasn't got Bluetooth connected so I just use an auto lead. 2 quid from the phone shop.

Yeah, I guess so, but to be honest I only have a 10-15 minute drive to and from work, so probably wouldn't bother. I listen to the radio for music, not discussion shows like JV, and I listen to Radio 1 most of the time in the car, but change to R2 if it's a DJ that I don't like listening to, so at 6 pm will switch because I just can't get on with Annie Mac, so will listen to Sara Cox.

I think R2 have respectful programming on today. I have just come back to R2 today, after a long absence and full time defection to LBC, and finding their playlist respectful and thoughtful.

Reminds me of their play list the day Diana died. Also reminds me of my youth. Lovely soulful,reflective tunes. Kind, thoughtful and reflective music.

Credit where credit is due. R2 have sensed a mood and their music is reflecting that. Well done R2 for today.

I think that's across the BBC, tbh. 6 music are only just picking up the pace, slightly, this evening, but they've got Gideon Coe on in place of Craig Charles.

Probably a good week before we hear the sex pistols again, mind!

I think it's thoroughly awful that all bbc radio channels are playing "somber" music. I don't want to listen to somber music, I wanted to listen to the regularly scheduled shows. Life is hard enough at the moment without being told I need to feel sad about the death of a very privileged elderly man that I didn't know.

I'm actually pretty disgusted at bbc for all their wall to wall coverage.

Fairly sure "Katherine" is on a wind up and also is nowhere near Kensington High Street. Radio 2 has been impossible to listen to for the past few days. As has radio 3. And yes it's exactly the same as when Princess Diana died.

I listen to radio 2 every day. Think I lasted until 12.30 on Friday before I put on Spotify and it's not been on since. Although going in the car this morning so prime radio listening time. Might turn over to commercial radio

I was quite shocked to discover i really like Vanessa Feltz on R2. Don't feel the hate for Zoe Ball, but I would have loved Sara Cox to have the Breakfast Show. I think she is very funny and warm. She is same age as me so maybe I identify so much with what she comes out with. Miss Simon Mayo so much.

I listened to Sue Perkins cover a few times and she is really good.

But my real guilty R2 pleasure is....Michael Ball. Just love him! I think he's like marmite but I am a big fan!

It's not just me then! Her constant hysterics, slavering intakes of breath and general animated excitement drives me nuts......If I switch on the radio in the morning and hear it's:- "The Zoe Ball Breakfast Click" No thanks.....
