we've done towels and bedding and bras ad infinitum.
so new one-what about your dressing gown?

I probably wear mine less than once a fortnight, for about 10 minutes - to answer the door or walk between bathroom and bedroom.

I wash it once or twice in the summer. It's probably the same wear as someone who wears it everyday but washes once a week... so I don't feel it's particularly unwashed.

A bit like the spare room bed which is made up but not used for like 2 or 3 months at a time.

Sciurus83 · 25/03/2021 16:10

Oh god I need to wash my dressing gown....

JackieTheFart · 25/03/2021 16:23

When I drop food on it or I can smell it.

Although sometimes I like a bit of my own musk Grin

MajorNeville · 25/03/2021 20:16

I bought my dressing gown to go into hospital to have my ds, he's 20 this year. Barely ever wear it, only when I'm feeling ill probably.

speakout · 25/03/2021 20:18

Those who don't wear a dressing gown- do you have a very warm house?

No. I wear leggings and over-sized jumpers at home, and use a sherpa blanket if I'm sitting down.
SnackSizeRaisin · 25/03/2021 20:23

Once or twice a year. I wear it daily always over pyjamas. Don't wash coats or big jumpers really either...I think it's similar.

dudsville · 25/03/2021 20:24

I have two for summer and two for winter. For the most part the reason for two is that my bedroom, bathroom and dressing room are in different areas so if I have two then I'm likely to have one where it's needed.

I mostly only wear them to get from one place to another, but occasionally they get worn for a significant part of the day. They get worn if I get too warm in them or something spills or it's been more than a month.

dudsville · 25/03/2021 20:25

Ooh, I also wash coats! During winter if needed, but always at the end of winter before storing them.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/03/2021 20:28

I very rarely wear a dressing gown, only if I'm actually unwell and not getting dressed for the day or if it is really cold when I first get up in the depths of winter. And then I only wear it for half an hour or so.

So I'm going to say once every 3 months, might be less often than that.

reader12 · 25/03/2021 20:31

Almost never, but I wear it almost never too so I don’t think that makes me vile. I only wear it if the doorbell rings when I’m half dressed or naked.

Hohoholymoley · 25/03/2021 20:31

Only if I'm going somewhere nice.

Anystarinthesky · 25/03/2021 20:42

About once a week or fortnight, I have three cotton ones.

Diaryofanapper · 25/03/2021 20:58

I usually wear mine for about 5 years then bin it

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 25/03/2021 21:05

depends how often & how long I wear it and if I drop food on it
I have several great dressing gowns (suitable for different weather/warmth) but I currently covet an oodit after seeing them mentioned on a thread here, I don't need one, but...

JaceLancs · 25/03/2021 21:05

Not very often - but then I don’t wear it very often either!
Some weeks don’t wear at all - other weeks maybe gets worn for a couple of hours

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 25/03/2021 21:06

Once a week. I don't wear it all the time.

Appletreehat · 25/03/2021 21:13

Probably once a month when I remember, maybe longer...I hardly wear it, the only time I do is if I need to get up in the night with DC which is hardly ever.

fireplaceburning · 28/03/2021 20:26

I have 2 dressing gowns and an oodie. I am currently in my oodie which I've not washed yet as as I'm worried that the fluff will go.

I have a really thick cosy one, I have a slightly less cosy one which isn't as hot (which I washed yesterday as realised the neck had gone a funny colour) and then my oodie.

I get chilly without one as my pjs aren't thick enough to be warm watching telly of an evening

PerspicaciousGreen · 28/03/2021 20:39

Annually, probably, on average. Honestly. I only wear it over my pyjamas in the evenings in winter to potter around a bit before bed. I don't eat in it unless I'm ill. It's a fleecy one, so it can go in the machine, it just feels wasteful to wash something that's not dirty.

To anyone who starts going on about how disgusting it is to not wash things every five seconds, I find it genuinely disgusting how often people wash things that don't need washing - e.g. bath towels after only one use. It absolutely repels me to think that you'd waste that much water and energy and need to own that many towels. Makes me feel physically ill.

fireplaceburning · 28/03/2021 21:07

@PerspicaciousGreen I agree, I'm fed up of reading on here people feeling it's disgusting to use a towel more than once, put an item of clothing on for 30 seconds and it goes in the wash. Madness

Sciurus83 · 30/03/2021 07:58

@fireplaceburning me too.

Spied · 30/03/2021 08:37

I have two dressing gowns. One for daytime wear over the top of my clothes. The other is fluffier and I wear it after a bath on an evening.
I wash them both on average once a fortnight.
