AIBU to hate mums who turn up to drop off kids in pyjamas?

Mainly because these are the same ones who are also usually swearing in public and shouting down their mobile phones, and/or their kids.

@ThrowingAShellstrop

You can still be working class and be classist and snobby OP. You’re stereotyping and making judgements about people based on those stereotypes. I would hands down prefer my kids to know a few swear words and how to use them than have the entitled attitude of stereotyping and being judgemental about other people.
Judgy, yes. Not sure about classist though. (As there are some things that have nothing to do with class. E.g. no matter what class you are, theres some things which apply universally.)

@midsomermurderess

You say that you will say straight out what you're thinking, but then say you are 'merely' implying ... Make your mind up. And nothing about this is a discussion, throwing ideas around, as a pp suggested. It's this site at its worst, playing in to lazy stereotypes of what people like you regard as the underclasses behaving badly. It offers nothing of any value to anything or anyone.
👏👏👏

I don't understand how so many people think this is ok but I'm sure someone will come along with a snarky comment. People dress up in office wear to work from home and see absolutely nobody because it mentally puts them in the right mind frame, not being arsed to get ready is not showing the kids a good example, fine if you're in home I don't even get dressed and yeah wearing joggers etc is fine but to wear pj's you've slept in all night doesn't look good and yeah it does scream council estate and I live in a council house myself.

Mittens030869 · 24/03/2021 19:30

OP, why honestly does it bother you so much? It has absolutely nothing to do with you what other people wear. And do you think they even care what think?

And no, I don’t wear nightclothes in public.

mellicauli · 24/03/2021 19:32

Maybe they work a shift that requires the, to interrupt their sleep to get their kids to school and they are going back to finish off their night’s sleep

Krapom · 24/03/2021 19:33

I really don’t think it’s very appropriate, wouldn’t ever do it myself but hate? That’s very strong and allows no scope for empathy for individual situations. A mum or dad who have the world on their plate and one day puts their own dignity to the side to get their kids to school on time and you’re HATING them?

RootyT00t · 24/03/2021 19:34
@RootyT00t

Does she actually? Lol.

Fair enough, i guess we can only agree to disagree. Does your mother have a MN account? We need to get her on here! Grin
Yes.

And I tell her she's being ridiculous too.

Itsrainingatlast · 24/03/2021 19:36

Omg.
I typically work 75 hours a week in an extremely demanding, professional job with post graduate qualifications, for which I have to go into my place of work, where I am expected to dress smartly.
On a Sunday, I often go to the supermarket (sometimes even Waitrose) in my pjs; because I am so tired from my working week and like a day on which I don’t have to worry about getting dressed.
And sometimes my children wear pjs all weekend as well.

Mittens030869 · 24/03/2021 19:40

Has it ever occurred to you that a mum doing the school run in their nightclothes might be really struggling. Some of them will have babies to look after, and might even have PND? Or they might be struggling with depression, I’ve had struggles with PTSD and latterly with Long Covid, but I wouldn’t dream of telling any of the mums I meet in the playground.

You have no idea what might be going on in their actual lives.

ThrowingAShellstrop · 24/03/2021 19:42

So you can imagine then these sweaty PJ wearing people you “hate” are high earners OP? And those blocks of flats that you say are responsible for the decline in your area are inhabited by perfectly upstanding members of the public (like you of course because we already know you’re perfect Wink)

You’re almost proud of being so judgemental. It’s really distasteful.

Crocidura · 24/03/2021 19:42

So according to this thread, people wearing pyjamas in public are coarse, vulgar, lazy, not very polite, sweary, show "a complete disregard for ones appearance, self value and standards in general", tacky, rank, slobby, trampy, slovenly, "screams council estate", can't be bothered and are criminals who should be breathalysed.

And perhaps i am being judgemental.

You think?

ThrowingAShellstrop · 24/03/2021 19:42

Sweary rather

Staffy1 · 24/03/2021 19:48

I've never seen it. I think it's an odd thing to do, attention seeking maybe. It takes no time at all to change, so don't know why people would go out in pyjamas. They probably are more the type to swear and shout in public as they obviously don't care what people think.

Attention seeking.

Here's the thing..

They don't want your attention. They don't care what you think. Imagine.

LindsayDenton79 · 24/03/2021 19:51

Anybody who wears pajamas outside of the house is not somebody I would want to associate with

I imagine they don't wash etc

Crocidura · 24/03/2021 19:53

The judginess on this thread is actually really depressing. "Screams council estate", really? You are the ones who should be ashamed of yourselves, not people who wear pyjamas in public.

Crocidura · 24/03/2021 19:54

Oh look, another assumption to add to the list - they don't wash.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 24/03/2021 19:54

Ha! I like seeing people in PJs on the school run. Who's to say they slept in their PJs, perhaps it's lounge wear? It takes all sorts and that's really good for kids to see. Smile and say "Hi!", OP. You set a good example.

XenoBitch · 24/03/2021 19:55

I can tick both boxes but that is due to mental illness. I would not want to associate with people who would judge so harshly anyway.
Staffy1 · 24/03/2021 19:56

*Attention seeking.

Yeah, the thing is, if they really didn't, they would take a minute to change and not attract any attention whatsoever. It's more of an "in your face, what are you looking at" kind of thing, not an "I've got more pressing things to think about" kind of not caring.

No sorry , I don't have to make a minute to change because you said I should!

i have actually never ever met anyone who has done the drop off in pj's, nor shop in the supermarket in their pj's either. Ever. Where are these people you speak of OP?!

hellomom · 24/03/2021 20:00

Thankfully no one in my children's school have ever done that

It’s not a classist thing though apparently Wink
