@ExtraordinaryQuince

Do you think a tiger would molt a lot? That would be a lot of fluff on your sofa!
Better increase your milk order as well!

I'm loving the tiger tangent. Just putting this out there... I would love to adopt an elephant and/or an orangutan . I'm sure my 3 bed semi with medium sized garden would accommodate us all beautifully. Has anyone seen any in rescue centres that need re-homing?

MenoMom · 27/03/2021 11:19

This is a really lovely thread - thanks for starting it, sorry you’re getting hassle from the Standing Orders committee but it’s good to know that the horse stalker isn’t causing any hassle.

I read loads of pony books as a child but as a city kid rarely got the chance to ride. My retirement dream is to move to the country and have a couple of donkeys though, just to chat too and feed carrots - and after this thread maybe a couple of Shitlands too.

If you decide on an orang utan, I have several yards of string that my son (aged about 4) tied across one corner of his bedroom, so that his intended pet gorilla would swing on them.

Sadly we never managed to get one after all. Heartbreaking . . . Wink

When DS1 was small he and his cousin were obsessed with giant squid. They drew detailed plans of the humungous tank they were going to keep it in on Grandad's lawn ( ours was too small ) and how they were going to ride it with snorkles - they could both go at once because it was so giant, apparently ...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/03/2021 14:35

I'll bet those bar-stewards in the planning department wouldn't give planning permission for the tank, Grendalsmum.

They just crush children's dreams without a second thought.

annonymousse · 27/03/2021 14:47

Thanks @SchadenfreudePersonified I will be in touch once I've located one that needs a home Grin

Grendalsmum · 27/03/2021 14:49

@Shadenfreude They thought of that! Wink It was going to be partially underground with a rockery on top to keep Grandma happy ...

I have been peripherally involved in the Horsey community for years and there are some complete nutters around

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/03/2021 15:07

I've loved both threads. I love horses but I'm spectacularly allergic now, I can't go within 5 meters of a horse.

I already have a brown Labrador and a black and white cat (CatBastard) who both moult so much I am surprised they aren’t bald, so I’m not too worried about tiger fur.

I wonder if I could spin it and knit with it?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2021 15:10

@justilou1

Hi I was popping in to see if there was any news on crazypants ex-owner. Relieved to see that there isn’t any. *@ExtraordinaryQuince* I can answer your question about tigers moulting because I have patted one once and it was one of the best experiences of my lifetime!!! I was at a theme park for a party and the Tiger trainer hadn’t been told that we were there. He had one out for walkies after hours, and when he saw the group of us coming his way, he made us stop, and the Tiger chose to come and smooch me. It’s head and feet were so big, and it’s fur was the softest thing I have ever encountered. Underneath though... those muscles were iron. I was utterly smitten, though. The other girls I was with were both terrified and jealous but didn’t approach, so it was only me who was lucky enough to get Tiger snuggles. I did have some Tiger hair on my dress - and enough Tiger scent to drive my dog bananas when I got home. It certainly wasn’t as much as cat hair, but the big guy wasn’t in my lap or crawling all over me. (I should be so lucky!)
I am emerald green with jealousy!

Sanity is overrated.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/03/2021 18:17

It certainly is!

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 27/03/2021 18:43

We will all be going wibble shortly. They’ll probably tax sanity. And tiger poo.

Prancingponies · 27/03/2021 19:03

As you can probably tell by the name I'm a horsey type, with 4 in total. Though in my defence two of them are minis.

I'm also a track type, and just wanted to pop in to say that the World Horse Welfare charity has a webinar on alternative grazing systems for horses on the 31st.

HeronLanyon · 27/03/2021 19:52

I’ve a number of horsey friends. My experience is they just have differing priorities/obsessions and they are time consuming. I know not to disturb one friend of she is in her fields doing horsey stuff unless I’m offering to help with poo shovelling or similar. For good chats or anything non horse related I know to time it right - after her tasks have been completed. There’s also a fair amount of horsey gossip - who’s riding what and how they are treating horses and never ending changes of who goes riding with whom dependant often on how they behave or how their horses behave etc. It’s complex and all consuming from an outsiders POV.
