Just that really.

@Grendalsmum

I was really invested in the Horse Stalker Saga - l now know what a track system is and the poem made me all sniffy. Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my question about horse-bonding, too - l had a mad day at work and didn't get back to the thread before it closed. I hope we get a part 2!
Glad you liked the poem, it's one of my favourites and always makes me sniffy too!

Nicking hay off a passing wagon - that's hilarious!!

EggyPegg · 25/03/2021 15:49

Yay! I loved the last thread. I learned so much.

I'm so pleased to see the horse chat continue.

Sideorderofchips · 25/03/2021 18:47

We poo pick our fields and bag it and local farmers or gardeners come and get it. At the moment we have a muck wagon for one of the farmers and he collects it and takes it away, empties it and brings it back

VeryLittleOwl · 25/03/2021 19:06

Oh, hearing you on the oldies! I have a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old and they're four times as much trouble as the 11-year-old! I had to start chaining gates shut because they worked out that if the 22-y-o (Welsh cob) applied his considerable backside to gateposts they could often pop the gate open and take themselves off around the village all night to graze the summer verges, or let themselves into a field that was being rested. Neither of them respect electric fence in the slightest.

The 26-y-o seems to have guts of iron, he once broke into a feed room with a previous owner and ate half a bag of dry beet shreds with no ill effects whatsoever (non-horsey people - this is an absolute no-no, sugar beet swells massively in water and shouldn't be fed without soaking overnight first, most horses would have had colic, a twisted gut, which can kill them). The 22-y-o's favourite game is waiting until I've nearly filled a wheelbarrow and then shoving it over with his nose.

I'm very envious of the OP of the original post's track system. I'd love one here, but my 15 acres are split over four separate locations in the village. However, that does make it easy for me to graze - harrow - rest, which cuts down on the amount of shovelling poo required , and I have a small flock of sheep to rotate with the horses, which keeps the docks and buttercups down. They live out 24/7 all year round (field shelters available if necessary) and are fit, well and loving life. I don't ride either of them any more, but they still love to come out for a walk in-hand around the village to see what's going on.

Love how this thread has turned into a nice horsey chat! Hopefully there will be no more to update on from the mad A and C.

Veterinari · 25/03/2021 21:46

Hope I haven't harassed you into reporting back @BlueEyesWhiteDragon. I too enjoyed the gentle horse chat and educated myself about tracking systems! Haven't ridden/had ponies for 30 years but still miss the smell of a horse's muzzle and told DH today that I'd like to have an old retired horse just to sniff!

Yeah. Especially as you don't want a second thread.

So remind me again, as you don't want a second thread why create this one and continue to encourage it? Seems odd behaviour, I can see why @RootyT00t was confused.

Really?

FFS. I enjoyed the last thread and wondered if there was a second. I am enjoying this thread. The OP seemed happy to add to it so I was too. Is that OK with you or would you like me to check my animal threads with you first? This thread is a gentle thread about horses, do you really have nothing better to do tha pick me up on my motivation for starting it? Get a life.

Yes, with a few exceptions!

For someone one starting a 'gentle ' thread you do seem rather angry

Why not just say that you wanted a second thread? Confused why all the aggressive 'can you read' 'FFS' 'get a life'

It's a pretty weird thing to get angry about. Why not just say you enjoyed the last thread and wanted a second one? Lots of PP have done so.

The only person derailing your gentle thread is you with your unwarranted aggression and denials.

Veterinari · 25/03/2021 22:37

This thread is a gentle thread about horses

There's an entire board for horse chat
You could go there anytime

You started a thread in AIBU enquiring about a specific previous thread
You didn't start a general horse chat thread

ExtraordinaryQuince · 25/03/2021 23:02

@Veterinari Fair enough. I apologise to all those on this thread who have found my thread unnecessary, to the original OP, and those posters whose questions riled me.

MyOtherProfile · 25/03/2021 23:14

Well I'm not horsey so would never have found this or the previous thread on the horsey section. It's been such a lovely read and I'm glad this OP started it. Still hope to keep hearing the odd update from the previous OP about her horse (no I'm not person C Grin ) so let's not complain and spoil it eh? The door is that way if you don't like it.

Ah yes - those pesky question-askers!
How can you possibly be expected to be polite under such circumstances.

Definitely don't apologise or take any responsibility for your own aggression and rudeness. You wouldn't want to risk appearing genuine...

No complaints about the thread. Only the Op's needless aggression and rudeness.
krustykittens · 25/03/2021 23:21

I don't poo pick anymore as I have enough land to rotate my herd. The impact in the first year was incredible, we were descended upon by dung beetles, including the very large scarab ones! They drilled holes all over my paddock, aerating it beautifully, dragged poo into their underground chambers and the smaller brown ones sucked it all dry. Then the birds were all over our field, scattering it far and wide as they hunted for the beetles. We also have four pet sheep called the clean up crew that go out and tidy up paddocks after the ponies have left and eat any parasites while they are it. Ponies are worm free, my paddocks are getting plenty of fertilisation and I have more time to spend with my ponies!

HeronLanyon · 25/03/2021 23:26

Op - thank you again for the thread. This and previous have been great. What a laugh and I have learned a lot. Hoping the OGOP is ok and horsey there is safe and well !

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 25/03/2021 23:33

OP, you can't please everybody, all the time... AIBU is full of threads that could slot into other topics, but if they did, it would be dead in here. Hey ho...

againandagainoncemore · 25/03/2021 23:33

@Maverickess

To whoever said they'd like an old retired horse - don't do it, just don't.

My horse retired early (15) due to issues that affect him ridden, and will probably end his days sooner, but he's pain free at the moment when not ridden, he lives with a 30 year old horse that is also retired.

I've worked with breeding stallions, youngsters, ex racers, fit event horses, started and trained youngsters, a lot of different breeds that are known for being highly strung, and yet never have I had so many issues with horses behaving like arseholes that the two twat bags described above.

They jump out if they fancy a new field, and if they can't jump it, they find a weak spot, in fact any spot they like and push it down, even with electric fence. They take turns in getting shocked.

They had a field shelter built with great care for their comfort and needs, which they have destroyed scratching their arses on.
They tag team you when poo picking, and whilst one distracts, the other will push the barrow over, then both run away in mock terror of the monster.
They stand at the field gate and whinny pitifully at the other liveries, delivery men, the postman and in fact anyone for food, when they have full haynets in the shelter and 2 hard feeds a day and have come out of winter looking better than they went in. They want carrots and apparently I don't supply enough.
They like to rip their own and each others rugs with expensive regularity, by hedge diving and mutual grooming - the same hedges which an hour later will be terrifying and impossible to walk past sensibly, but rather need lots of flying around snorting with tails over their backs.

Despite the fact both were trained, and stood for many years being shod quietly, treated by vets and led in headcollars, they now think the farrier is fair game to be dragged around, the vet stood on multiple times, and their headcollars would have more effect on a ten tonne truck than they do on them some days.
Horses grow old disgracefully! And I love every minute of it ❤
I am off to finish the other thread now 😊

So. So many fences destroyed by big cob itchy butts.
plominoagain · 25/03/2021 23:49

This wotsit is 42 this year - this is her last summer . More trouble than the rest of the tribe put together . She jumped a double fence of two strand electric fencing and then post and rail , and then broke out of my neighbour’s field to come after us because I’d taken big horse out and left her at home .

Then we got a Redwings pony to keep her company . When the farrier came out to do their feet , guess which one stood perfectly and which one didn’t , despite only having had her feet trimmed 1368563 times in her life ?

Is there a second thread for the horse/obsessive ex owner?

Is 42 a typo? 😯

No , she’s 42 years old in May . I bought her for my DS’S first pony when he was 10. She was 26 then . He’s 25 now. .

Gremlinsateit · 26/03/2021 04:17

@plominoagain is it you with the palomino pony story mentioned in the other thread? Would love a link if you have a moment Smile

@ExtraordinaryQuince

Thank you so much for starting this thread, & BlueEyes for replying. Obviously many of us followed the original thread with great interest & were keen for a follow up. I too am loving all the horsey chat, rolling my eyes at the passive aggressive twats who want to start a fight, & hoping A has got the message & leaves BlueEyes & T alone.

EggyPegg · 26/03/2021 06:54

42?! How long do horses live?!
