To think that the EU have done more to endorse Brexit in the last 2 weeks than the UK managed in nearly 5 years

I’ll start by saying I’ve never thought Brexit was in the long term interest of the UK and still don’t

But dear God, the EU’s behaviour over vaccinations and, in particular, the blatant prejudice around the Astra Zeneca vaccine has done more to endorse the UK leaving than anything that has been said in the UK before, during and after the vote

@Itsalonghaul

There is a great deal of real bitterness and jealousy on this thread. I am surprised by the hostility.

It is making me feel grateful that Boris is cancelling our holidays to Europe, if this is how it is going to be I am not sure I ever want to visit again. The world is a big place and I would rather not be surrounded by such bile.

Awh I’m so disappointed @Itsalonghaul I couldn’t think of a better visitor to Ireland than one who referred to the country as a ‘little backwater’ then act like they are the ones being treated badly. Biscuit

Such a ridiculous persecution complex many posters of this thread have. If you read back over the thread you will see many posters saying and assuming things about us in the EU and then when a poster from the EU comes in to tell you this isn’t actually how it is in the EU you claim you’re being stalked and we are bitter. Do you only want an echo chamber?

Ok then. You’re right, U.K. is amazing, the bestest country ever who have never done anything wrong ever and only do things awesomely. Everyone in the EU - made up of dozens of completely different countries with different cultures and economies - are secretly so miserable to be in the EU, hate our lives and are super jealous of the U.K.

Now then, you can rest easy.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2021 19:27

Well it makes a change from fucked and crap hole

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 19:30

This thread is seriously deranged. My god it is a fucking freak show. Listen grab a G&T and chill. It is going to be fine.

The whole vaccine debacle will pass, and soon everyone will have one. This will blow over, and things will be cool, for everyone.

jellybellybanana · 23/03/2021 19:32

Well ok. The EU won't miss you amongst the millions of British people who will still flock there every year.

@MarshaBradyo I'm half Spanish half English. We normally live in the Uk June - September to escape the heat! I'm extra sensitive because there are two halves of my identity to criticise Shock!

Numbers... Yes... they are low(ish), we've been lucky with wave number three considering the restrictions were quite relaxed (our first lockdown was the harshest in Europe!) but I have a horrible feeling wave number four is coming and our cases will be going up before vaccines can properly bring them down. I don't know how it happened - internal borders have been shut since October, and there's a traffic light system (like tiers) but there have been fewer restrictions than France which is really suffering so I think it's connected to variants. it looks like they Kent variant is just starting to take hold in Spain and the fall in cases has plateaued now. There will definitely be a fourth wave but hopefully with fewer hospital admissions if they can jab more elderly ASAP!

Ah yes distance from U.K. maybe and variant. Good luck I really hope the vaccinations ward it off in time.

I’m half Australian / half U.K. and I see so much praise for Aus response etc I feel U.K. gets a hard time in comparison ;

Dee1975 · 23/03/2021 19:39

I think they’ve let themselves down massively. And if I was in a position of power in any country of the world I would give further thought in giving any EU country manufacturing rights on any product I develop.

EpiphanySoul1 · 23/03/2021 19:40

@MarshaBradyo you can read back this entire thread and will note I have only ever commented on the uK in the context of a comparator to your high death rate to Ireland where I am from and falling exports as an issue with Brexit. I have no comment to make about the U.K. overall - I simply provided my view that the negative view you all have of the EU is not shared by a lot of us in the EU. Which none of you have wanted to here.

@Itsalonghaul is the only one I have seen actively insulting Ireland in a nasty way, ranting about the EU being a dictatorship and then kicking up to say others are jealous and bitter when posters push back.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 19:49

I simply said that the commission used Ireland and played the country as a pawn in brexit, which is acknowledged in Ireland as much as it is here. I don't think it was kind of VDL to threaten all of us in the way she did, without at least warning Ireland, it was disrespectful.

VDL does remind me very much of a dictator, the fact she is also German is very unfortunate. I feel very sorry for all countries in the bloc with such an incompetent at the helm, but she has great hair I will give her that.

QuentinInQuarantino · 23/03/2021 19:52

"I’m half Australian / half U.K. and I see so much praise for Aus response etc I feel U.K. gets a hard time in comparison"

Oh yes, and suggestions to do as Australia did while ignoring the Geography! I hope you get to visit soon, it's not easy being cut off from one half of you.

I think its fairly clear that you are not,

Yes that too, so many comments on doing the same!

And Thanks Smile me too. It feels very cut off atm

no it is not. In Ireland it is a well know fact the UK used us as a pawn and completely abdicated its responsibilities to the border, the GFA, and NI.
Nobody in Ireland is mad at the EU over Brexit, you have that entirely the wrong way around.

@Itsalonghaul I’m not sure why you are so concerned about the country you describe as a ‘little backwater’

You showed your true colours and your anti Irish sentiment when you said that. And now having a pop at the Germans too saying UVL reminds you of a dictator and she’s also German too... what is that supposed to mean?

You don’t even seem to realise how nasty your views are!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 23/03/2021 20:33

@QuentinInQuarantino off topjc but can I have your house july onwards why its too hot for you , I can take the spanish heat and the tapas and sangrai , happy to do this for you Smile

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 23/03/2021 20:37

@Dontevenstart you don't have to live here and its rude to call everyone who voted leave an idiot just because they may think different to you
I didn't vote leave but I know some very clever people who did and personally i don't go around calling people idiots because they voted differently , thats small minded . Everyone's vote is as valid as the next person

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 23/03/2021 20:40

@jellybellybanana you can't speak for the whole of ireland or know what everyone thinks just as the same as anyone
I work with a lot of europeans , not one thinks the eu is perfect but some still think its a good idea, some hate it and some don't care
I spoke to them a lot during brexit and again mixed views on wether it was the right thing to do , but the general consensus was it was up to the uk
Every country has people who think very differently so nobody can say nobody in c country thinks this , its impossible to know

Teabag37 · 23/03/2021 20:43

Time to stop the smugness ? I am in Italy

I haven't seen that really on here there is a poster from an eu country stating that the whole country feels a certain way
This was started about how people in the uk feel and how they think the eu have made people think voting remain maybe wasn't the right way ? Some have echoed that yes it has made them think
Also most of us know the eu and europe are very different things
Like I said in another post I work with a lot of europeans , different nationalities some are happy in eu , some less so. Most not that bothered by brexit as not their issue really

NotAPanda · 23/03/2021 20:44

BUNFIGHT Halo

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 23/03/2021 20:47

Lets stick to what post was about and I think the consensus is that yes for some it has made them question their remain vote , for others not and prob for the vast majority they just don't care one way or the other

Butterflyfluff · 23/03/2021 21:01

This thread has been quite eye opening

What has become very apparent is there is a handful of die hard remainers who fall over themselves to prove everything the UK does is dreadful and everything the EU does is wonderful

Life must be very tiring if you continue to think this way and pick this battle when Brexit has happened

The EU have massively fucked up over vaccines and the UK hasn’t

Can’t you at least acknowledge that and move on to doom monger about all that faces us in the future rather than pick holes in something we actually did well?

I was saying this to dh last night after reading this thread and others about the EU. These poster have no idea what people in the EU are actually feeling or thinking about anything, yet keep on bleating about the same things over and over again. From mumsnet the UK comes across as a really insular, inward looking country and it is getting worse and worse. As someone not living in the UK I think it is sad to see but they seem content with their flag waving so it is what it is.

You'd be better off talking to the wall than trying to explain anything about the EU here, it is frustrating to see the continual misconceptions and blatant untruths at times but if someone doesn't want to know(and it is clear a lot of posters on the EU threads don't want to know) it is pointless trying to inform them.
