To think that the EU have done more to endorse Brexit in the last 2 weeks than the UK managed in nearly 5 years

I’ll start by saying I’ve never thought Brexit was in the long term interest of the UK and still don’t

But dear God, the EU’s behaviour over vaccinations and, in particular, the blatant prejudice around the Astra Zeneca vaccine has done more to endorse the UK leaving than anything that has been said in the UK before, during and after the vote

There is a great deal of real bitterness and jealousy on this thread. I am surprised by the hostility.

It is making me feel grateful that Boris is cancelling our holidays to Europe, if this is how it is going to be I am not sure I ever want to visit again. The world is a big place and I would rather not be surrounded by such bile.

From the Brits, yes. I am sadly no longer surprised, years of anti-EU rhetoric has clearly made an impression on many.

Come to New York. We adore our UK tourists. Smile

Says the person who called Ireland a "little backwater" Hmm

Of what?

I’m pleased the U.K. vaccination programme is going well, take up is high and hospitalisation is falling fast.

For the first time data looks encouraging enough to see the road map out of this. I don’t that people have a need to be bitter or jealous.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 18:44

Thank you miss I will certainly bear that in mind now that BA have already cancelled my flight for the 31st of July.

I happen to think most posters on here are probably Brits abroad scathing and seething about brexit still! Now they also have to wait for a vaccine this is just increased their anger and despair.

I have found to my surprise that our friends in Europe have been very knowledgable about the reasons for the UK departure, and have never hidden their interest in following developments.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 18:48

jelly Most Brits would prefer Europe was vaccinating and your people were safe! We are not enjoying seeing the continent being engulfed by a third wave. Least of all because we know from experience how bad it is going to be, and many of our friends and family live there.

You seem to have a very poor view of things, but actually from here we just see the Commission as the problem, not the national governments and definitely not the people!

QuentinInQuarantino · 23/03/2021 18:52

I don't think the bitterness has much to do with the vaccines. If anything, people should be happy the EU have fewer vaccines, there's a finite amount and if the Eu had more then the uk would have less.

It's Brexit. You have to defend your choices, don't you!

it's worked out perfectly for me because my parents and grandparents have had the vaccine due to their age (my parents wouldn't have had it if they lived in the ru) and I've got it this week due to my profession (I wouldn't have had it if I lived in the uk.) win win!

No from here many see the British government as the problem, not the EU. I remain incredulous at the degree of corruption, cronyism and sheer ineptitude people will tolerate. If we’re not worried about the seriously appalling mortality figures then maybe the lack of exports and crashing economy might help people see.

Not really Brexit. I didn’t even vote for it so nothing to defend.

Honestly at this point Brexit is far removed in my kind to actually getting vaccination complete and moving on with life.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2021 18:55

My mind

They don't, and yet the threads full of bitter nasty cracks at the EU still abound. C'est la vie.

When all this furore over AZ ends it will stop

It’s stressful relying on a vaccine and you get quasi ineffective statements etc

Also the issue over contracts

I’m happy to just complete programme and finally get through this

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 18:59

lemon I think you are going to be very disappointed, just as you clearly are now that the vaccine is not a failure, and people are being vaccinated in record time.

We are good here in the UK, we are happy - we have much to look forward to. You really need to get over yourselves and focus on your own lives, vaccines and economy rather than constantly watching us. It is akin to stalking. Like a bitter jilted ex looking for trouble.

We are doing us, and you should do you. I would rather be poorer and free, than tethered to the EU monstrosity now, and I voted remain!

You have done a great job in converting us all, it took six years, but thank god we can see the light now.

QuentinInQuarantino · 23/03/2021 19:02

@MarshaBradyo it's the title of the thread. People can't separate the two.

I know you voted remain, as did I, but we're all leavers now... it's make the best of it or be miserable from now on I'm afraid. And as this is, so far, the only tangible benefit of leaving I'm not surprised there's singing from the rooftops!

It's the ner-ner-ner attitude from many that ruins it. And maybe if you aren't European it would go over your head (although some of itsalong posts are very overt) but there has been a very noticeable rise in xenophobia. And it's very one sided - I DO spend time on forums from my other country and the only xenophobia I experience is here Sad

Dontevenstart · 23/03/2021 19:04

Considering the shit they’ve put up with from this craphole of an island and the stupid, vacuous, small-minded idiots who voted to leave the EU, can you really blame them?

jellybellybanana · 23/03/2021 19:05

When all this furore over AZ ends it will stop

It won't though. Next will be more Brexit stuff, threads about the Big Bad EU expecting the UK not to renege on the NI protocol, the bastards. Ad infinitum. They were around before the AZ issue and they'll be around afterwards, full of casual racism and complete misunderstanding of what is happening.

Quentin I know we’re all affected by posts that feel more directed at us, and after a while get weary. I am too, re anti U.K. stuff which feels so constant in last year. And I’m dual nationality so only half of me feels it ;

Btw are you Spanish? I had a google around earlier to see cases in other countries and are yours very low? Or did I land on wrong page. They seem different to France, Italy etc? How has that happened (if I’m reading it correctly)

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2021 19:08

craphole of an island

Sad is there nothing you like about living here?

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 19:16

Some people on this thread sound like they are in a very bad place.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, there is a vaccine shortage and production issues, I assume it is just the stress of the situation.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 19:18

rufus Yup the core left on here I think are Brits abroad with an axe to grind, I am sure actually they are probably just stressed and sad, and worried about the future. I am not taking it personally.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 23/03/2021 19:20

Nah i reckon thats bollocks itsalonghaul

A few maybe, or some perhaps

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 19:21

It is just as well I am not that worried about your take on this then rufus
