Horrid, cringey things people say

I nanny for a family that call dinner ‘sup sups’

It makes me feel ill. I’ve tried and tried to get the kids to stoppit and almost succeeded but due to lockdown, their mum is at home constantly and feeding them these twee little sayings as apparently it’ll be ‘a shame when they grow up and don’t say them anymore’ Hmm

Sup sups is the absolute worst but we also have ‘beddiebyes’ and ‘pop pops’ (I can’t even write what that one means because Its nauseating but it’s a bodily function)

The children are 6, 9 and 11, not babies.

It sounds dramatic but the thought of hearing these stupid phrases again tomorrow for another weeks is spoiling my Sunday Grin

Anyone got any to add to make me feel better?

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/03/2021 19:25

Eggs as "chicken's periods

A slight improvement over calling them bum nuts, though.

NoLeafClover · 21/03/2021 19:26

@NoLeafClover

That sounded extremely creepy, reading it back Grin
Bugger, I meant my post sounded creepy btw, not yours.
whenwewereveryyoung · 21/03/2021 19:38

I am so revolted by 'nom nom' that it hurts to type it.

I once served dinner to a new DP and he said 'Yummy bummy, Baby!' Luckily he never did it again.

Username0981237645 · 21/03/2021 19:43

On Facebook- spam me with ideas/recipes/pictures etc etc.
Does anybody know what time Asda is open till? Fair enough during the first lockdown when things had odd hours and Google may not be up to date... but just Google it.
Stop being such a Karen... just because I don't like x y z or don't agree with your idiotic ideas.

WhereHaveAllTheGoodTimesGone · 21/03/2021 19:44

@NoLeafClover

Yikes 😳 Apart from anything else, if he wanted me to touch it, I would not be calling it ‘Mr’. If I’m touching it, I should at least get to know its first name.

Oh Jaysus, @StillCoughingandLaughing, now I'm imagining this bloke voicing his dick, and introducing it along the lines of "helllloo there, pleasure to meet you. The name's Pat. Pat the Penis". Thanks for the nightmares GrinGrin

Does anyone here remember reading Forever by Judy Blume as a teenager and sniggering over the boyfriend calling his dick " Ralph?"

Oh god just remembered an ex who called his dick percy. He saw it on his favourite programme that he didn't shut up about Hollyoaks where somebody said he's going to shoot percy (going for a wee) but he said it in the context of percy wants to be inside you.
God I didn't need this memory.

I really struggle to understand men who name their dicks. I mean, why?? We don't hear of women naming their foofs!
Bloodypunkrockers · 21/03/2021 20:02

What is it with men doing this?! I've known a Wilf, a Mr Boink, a Herbert and a Terry the Tassel. I'm going to start calling my vag Vera, see how they like it.
Jeeperscreeper · 21/03/2021 20:08

BLESSED freaks me out !

bluebellscorner · 21/03/2021 20:09

I hate it when people call their child ‘cheeky monkey’. I realise I must be in the minority because so many people say it but it sounds terrible to me

Should of/could of

Username0981237645 · 21/03/2021 20:10

He did have a name for my vag. Flo not even imaginative really.

Mummadeze · 21/03/2021 20:12

I say din dins, time for schoolio, beddy byes time. I don’t care if you think it is cringey either. They are well loved terms in our household and so what.

grassisjeweled · 21/03/2021 20:14

but her and her peers are VERY vehemently not Mumsnet people.

What's that old chestnut? Doth protest too much?

Re: the previous poster who said her dad referred to her dog's being on heat as being her periods, made me think of someone I know who refers to eggs as chickens ' periods!
Well they are, so she’s not wrong there
RootyT00t · 21/03/2021 20:38

BonesJones · 21/03/2021 23:35

There's certain words and phrases that I use that started as a piss take but have stuck! The DC and I call chicken nuggets 'chickie nuggies' after we heard it on a cartoon and cracked up about it, but now we've used it so often in a funny way that we've kept the words but dropped the funny! I also hate pet names in a relationship so my DP used to try to be as cutesy as possible to make me cringe. Except some have stuck. In fact, we sometimes spot new ones on TV (can be anything! Our best ones come from the antiques roadshow 😂) and add those to the piss take list except they stick as well, and we use them in all seriousness. In trying to be subversive and ironic we have accidentally infected ourselves with 'cutesy'! I wouldn't use them in public though!!! However I will never ever apologise for baby-talking the cats. They have many nicknames and will be booped and called chonky and have their ikkle toe beans admired all day long. God I hate myself.

OnSecondThoughts · 22/03/2021 00:08

Everyone knows the saying "I couldn't care less". Well maybe 10-15 years ago everyone on the internet seemed to type "I could care less" all of a sudden (although I haven't seen it recently). This always irked me. No! It's COULDN'T care less, not COULD! That means the opposite thing!
