Shopping in pyjamas

radiateforme · 20/03/2021 18:11

I know, this has been done to death, but just went to the supermarket and saw a full family out shopping in their pyjamas. It's the first time I've actually seen a fully grown adult out in a full set of pj's (dressing gown, pyjama top, pyjama bottoms, fluffy socks and sliders). More curious to know exactly why people find this so unacceptable, because essentially they are just clothes. For me it is just slovenly and lazy. But maybe I'm being too judgemental. Opinions?

Why do you care so much about what other people wear? Just do you. None issue thread.

prawntoastie · 20/03/2021 23:30

I don't find it acceptable tbh I wouldn't even a do a block walk with the dog in my Pjs
but I do sometimes stand at the door in my pjs whilst he wees on the long lead, don't know if that is acceptable either

Jacketpotato84 · 20/03/2021 23:35

Well you have to accept it there is currently no law around shopping attire. There is however a indecent exposure law, but that's miles from someone in their pjs at the shop.

This is lush. Glad you started this thread OP just so that @Branleuse could post this for us.

CrazySheepLady · 20/03/2021 23:37

I don't care if people think I'm judgey. It is chavvy & slovenly to go out shopping, do the school run etc in PJs.

indemMUND · 20/03/2021 23:39

And people look at me funny wearing some black eyeshadow and painted on eyebrows (I have no natural). Aye, wouldn't it be great to roll out of bed and go shopping in pjs? I'd probably be judged far less GrinShout abuse at a goth but free pass shopping in your dress

indemMUND · 20/03/2021 23:40

*dressing gown. Nowt as queer as folk 🙄

dottiedaisee · 20/03/2021 23:44

I would definitely judge anyone wearing their PJs ...sorry but I actually feel sorry any children involved...chavvy and cannot be bothered is my judgement.

viques · 20/03/2021 23:46

@PandaFluff

Maybe a nice family outing for fun during the pandemic
Yes the supermarkets are encouraging us all to shop in large groups. Such great fun, we’ve been short of that during the global pandemic.
Viviennemary · 20/03/2021 23:46

I can't see the harm. People are covered up. Better than seeing a bare chested man or skimpy crop tops. Clutches pearls.

ferriswheel20 · 20/03/2021 23:47

I used to work in a supermarket, we used to call it "jammie tramping"

DarcyJack · 20/03/2021 23:47

It’s attention seeking.

Just put your clothes on to go to the shop, ffs. You’re not a free spirit just because we can all see you’re too special to get dressed. - This.

Very much so. Plus our local pyjama wearers are all doubly special as it seems not only are they exempt from clothes but also masks.

hellomom · 20/03/2021 23:48

Sorry I don't like it. And I don't get it. I couldn't wear anything outdoors and then lounge about with it in my house/bed. Hello germs??

bluebell34567 · 20/03/2021 23:49

maybe they were doing a 'dare' thing.

Kittromney · 20/03/2021 23:53

I’ve gone out to the shops with a jumper and trakkie bottoms pulled over my pyjamas countless times (proper trainers and coat though). I hate getting dressed and undressed, I really do, especially in the winter.

DoWhatYouWantTo · 20/03/2021 23:54

@Candlesinthewind

And why not? Next step is just underwear? It’s no worse/better than a bikini/budgie smuggler on the beach. And actually, they should burp and fart as they go - ffs it’s not illegal. You are being very judgmental. Get out there tomorrow in your jimjams - have a fart or two - stand in your power!
Because it's effing minging. Worn in bed clothes then out to the shops. Yuk!!!!! Are you one of those people?? I guess you must be to stick up for the cause GrinBlush

FFS... as has been said up thread, mental illness can be a reason for someone wearing these ever so offence PJs.
Keepyourdistance000 · 20/03/2021 23:57

Slovenly and lazy imo, but I realise this is an unpopular opinion on this subject on MN.

SneezyGonzalez · 21/03/2021 00:01

Downright ultimate attention seeking chavvy behaviour. People who do this and think it’s in some way cool are simply uncultured dick heads.

How hard is it to shove on a big coat/jumper and change into a pair of jeans if the bottoms obviously look like pjs. Yeah we all do this from time to time but why draw attention to it?

If it were one person nipping out for milk to the local shop early in the morning fair enough but whole families clad in PJs wandering around a large supermarket - it’s like they’re in some kind of bizarre rebellion against something totally imagined and unquantifiable

LoudNowSing · 21/03/2021 00:03

@SheikahSlate

Once when I was in a bind I did go out with jeans and a coat over my pyjamas...but despite the urgent rush, still managed to shove a bra over my pyjama top Blush Grin. It was once.
That's a strong look. Were you going for Madonna or Wonder Woman?
ConeHat · 21/03/2021 00:04

I judge. Silently in my head. In my head I'm making lots of silent judgments. It's what humans do. I'm not going to stand, scream and point at them. But if I saw a mate out in their Pjs with a fully loaded trolly shuffling about in bed socks and fluffy slippers, you bet your life I would judge.

If its 9.55pm and you have a basket and a coat over your Pjs and trainers I could get it. But £100 worth of shopping at 11am in a nightgown and fluffy slippers. Tell me. How is putting trainers and a coat on harder than slippers and a night gown?

Yes you do you. Well done. Fil gets naked at 6pm.every night. Want to see him " you do you, I will do me" in Tèsco? Would you fuck like to see that.

Imagine hes relaxing naked, all 20 stone of him, like a hairy ape when mil says "we have run out of milk, go grab some quickly and while your there get this months shopping love"

Also genuine question why dont men go out in their Pjs? Most men wear boxers to bed. Why dont they go shopping in night wear?

SneezyGonzalez · 21/03/2021 00:08

ferriswheel20 jammietramping 😆😂🤣 I won’t but so tempted to shout this v loudly next time I see it in action 😆

FinallyFluid · 21/03/2021 00:13

Clearly a postcode thing.

Have yet to see it around here.

Who the fuck should be having family fun days out at a supermarket?
BadLad · 21/03/2021 00:22

We live in a nice area, so I've never seen people doing this.
