Wibu to take biscuits to my vaccine appointment

I've got my covid vaccination this week. I'm very grateful to be getting it and thought it would be nice to take a selection biscuit pack, obviously still sealed. Would this be weird? Would they be allowed to take it for the break out area?

Nurses sick of them can give to a food bank.

Thebestposter · 17/03/2021 06:38

Mother in law said they’re not allowed at hers. Not even a kettle for shared use.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/03/2021 06:39

@PanamaPattie

Weird. They’ll just throw it away.
Have you met any nurses, we are gannets. They'll last about five minutes!
CandidaDoyle · 17/03/2021 06:46

I'm about to set off for a 12 shift in a vaccine centre. If you're coming to our centre today, please feel free to bring your chocolates, they will be very gratefully received. Smile

Parkerwhereareyou · 17/03/2021 06:50

Write a card?

They can't have the Celebrations because the container might be contaminated with Covid.

sandgrown · 17/03/2021 06:51

I was volunteering on Saturday when a very kind gentleman appeared at the back door with lots and lots of chocolate oranges . We all got one to take home. Much appreciated Smile

Balloondog · 17/03/2021 06:52

Another vaccine volunteer here, we gratefully accept anything like this at our clinics. They can be long days with no more than 5 minutes to grab lunch and so quick energy hits are welcome.

For all those saying they wouldn't touch even a wrapped chocolate from a shared box, you'd be horrified to know we've recently enjoyed unpackaged homemade cupcakes and flapjacks as well as fresh bagels (loose in a large carrier bag and then spread with cream cheese from a large shared tub), and of course loads of biscuits and chocolates.

And for those saying it's weird, I really don't understand how it's weird to be kind to anyone, never mind to those who are voluntarily putting themselves at risk to try and keep you safe. It's less about the actual offering, quite frankly a heartfelt thank you means just as much, than it is the fact that someone appreciates the risks you're taking/long hours you're working for them.

willowsway · 17/03/2021 06:53

I took chocolates in to say 'thank you' when I had my vaccination. The nurse said she'd share them around.

willowsway · 17/03/2021 06:56

I also don't see how it's 'weird' either and I'm glad to see those who are helping to get everyone vaccinated (thank you!! You absolute hero's!!) appreciate the treats.

CoalCraft · 17/03/2021 06:57

Honestly I find it weird that people thought this was weird! I can't imagine why taking a sealed pack of biscuits would be anything but appreciated.

I know it's different, but I was in NICU with DD I've Nov/Dec and the nurses gratefully accepted treats of all kinds, chocs, biscuits, even home made cakes, which they promptly ate on the ward.

Just saying it certainly isn't NHS policy to refuse food donations.

Bagamoyo1 · 17/03/2021 07:00

I’m a GP and I do vaccine clinics, and chocolates would be gratefully received!

midnightstar66 · 17/03/2021 07:01

I work in a school and happily and appreciatively tuck in to the donations handed in by grateful parents. I imagine the vaccine staff will be equally grateful. We don't care if a box of biscuits are individually wrapped either as long as they are sealed when they arrive (goes for non covid times too).

Ginmakesitallok · 17/03/2021 07:05

@GailLondon

Well I was working as a marshal at a vaccination centre tonight and someone came round with a tub of roses that had been given, while I was out in the cold manning the car parks. It was very much appreciated! Pre wrapped sweets like celebrations seem a good bet and a lovely idea OP
Wow! Unbelievable! Great infection control.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/03/2021 07:20

I don't mean to sound miserable...

It's an unfortunate fact that there are some weird people about and there is a term 'food terrorism' whereby food is deliberately contaminated, and so you might get an 'anti-vaxxer' dropping something off at a vaccination centre...

So I wouldn't take any food, and if a stranger gave me some food in this situation I wouldn't eat it. Even if it was chocolate!

AnImposter · 17/03/2021 07:24

@Silvercatowner

And have people dipping their fingers in to a box or tin? Individually wrapped or not - no

Bonkers. Just bonkers.

Actually at the vaccine centre I work at the manager stuck some gloves on and emptied the chocolates onto a table into the break room and then disposed of the box. They didn't last the hour. Grin
Whatalottachocca · 17/03/2021 07:28

Not at all weird, take them in. They will be accepted. My neighbour works in a vaccination centre and says they can and do accept biscuits and chocolates.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 17/03/2021 07:32

Phone and ask, OP, and if they say they can't ask if they could accept a box delivered by Amazon or similar.

debka · 17/03/2021 07:37

I am a practice nurse and vaccinating in the surgery I work in. Because we're not a mass vaccination centre we don't get the freebies and snacks but I would LOVE the thought. It's really hard work and we do feel a bit unappreciated.

sashh · 17/03/2021 07:37

I semi frequently take treats to my local GP, the staff there have been great with me over the years

I also took a bag of treats to A and E once, I know they don't often get sweets / chocolate because people give things to the ward staff even if patients have come in through A and E.

I recently had a lot of support from a charity, the staff were working from home so no way to hand over a treat so I sent a voucher for hotel Chocolate, because it's email there is no contamination for me and it seemed appreciated.

Nothingoriginalhere · 17/03/2021 07:38

Its allowed. staff and volunteers would be extremely grateful, We all love it when someone brings biscuits or chocolates in hence why ive been out at 6am restarting couch to 5k!

Nothingoriginalhere · 17/03/2021 07:43

I work at GP vaccine clinics and we definately don't get a mountain of yreats given to us so really.appreciate the gesture when so.eone makes the effort.

Brazilianut · 17/03/2021 07:46

It’s a lovely thought but they may prefer hand cream Grin

Most don’t accept gifts but it was thoughtful of you.

LunaNorth · 17/03/2021 07:55

This thread is ace. It has it all.

Contamination.
Terrorism.
Obesity.
Mental health slurs.

I’d get out the popcorn if it wasn’t for the Covid risk.

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/03/2021 07:56

I thought you mean biscuits for YOU to eat after your jab 😂

Yellow85 · 17/03/2021 07:59

If you want to do nice, why don’t you hand in a card and make a small donation to an nhs charity? I’m sure they’d appreciate that.
