Wibu to take biscuits to my vaccine appointment

I've got my covid vaccination this week. I'm very grateful to be getting it and thought it would be nice to take a selection biscuit pack, obviously still sealed. Would this be weird? Would they be allowed to take it for the break out area?

WorraLiberty Depends on how cautious the library staff are being, surely? I think most people would consider that an acceptable level of risk (especially for chocolate).

WaterBottle123 · 16/03/2021 23:09

@Daphnise

I wouldn't touch anything a member of the public brought in.

Are you mad?

@Daphnise

You're hilarious. Do you think 'the public' lick things and have Ebola?

Changemaname1 · 16/03/2021 23:10

Well there you go op you aren’t weird ( it’s weird people think it’s weird tbh)

And people who actual work in the vaccination places have co fined it’s fine

So crack on

WaterBottle123 · 16/03/2021 23:10

@stuckinarutatwork

Individually wrapped sweets or small packets of biscuits would be ok. But probably not a tin of biscuits or box of chocolates that would be 'exposed' once unsealed.
@StiggyZardust

Is there radiation in the vaccine centres then?

Changemaname1 · 16/03/2021 23:11

@WaterBottle123 🤣

PatsyJStone · 16/03/2021 23:14

waterbottle, you’d think so from all the expert answers given here!

Cookerhood · 16/03/2021 23:15

Our local vaccination centre certainly has good & drink donated by local businesses (packets of crifps, bars of chocolate etc), so I'm sure a pack of unopened biscuits would be fine - maybe a pack of penguins or something so they are wrapped. Local restaurants also send food - curries, samosas, pasta etc.

duffmcstockings · 16/03/2021 23:30

@WorraLiberty

I've got a question about individually wrapped sweets like Celebrations etc, because I'm thinking of buying some for my local library staff who have done me a big favour...

Wouldn't they be disallowed because the staff would all be putting their fingers in the tub, then unwrapping the sweet and putting their hands to their mouths?

Not bothered, just curious?

Worra,, if I worked in a library I have your chocks in a heartbeat .
Birdslovesinging · 16/03/2021 23:37

You are very thoughtful. Ignore the haters on here!
When I was at the hospital a few months back, I took 3 £10 gift cards with me for M&S and gave it to the three doctors that have been and continously continue to provide care for my daughter. I told them lunch was on me!
If you can afford a gift card, you should do that.
Good luck with your vaccine.

Donate them to a food bank.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 17/03/2021 02:36

It’s not weird at all! NHS staff genuinely appreciate things like biscuits, because they can be eaten quickly and help keep staff going whilst working long shifts.

20viona · 17/03/2021 03:13

It's not weird. I work for the nhs and we are always grateful and accept everything.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/03/2021 03:19

I volunteer in our vaccination hub. People have brought in boxes of chocolates and they have been very much appreciated.

imwaypasttense · 17/03/2021 03:56

My vaccination centre was local hotel - staff’s break area was the bar Grin - one HCSW standing behind the bar organising soft drinks, tea and coffee and snacks . Fabulous .

JM10 · 17/03/2021 04:31

Several people brought in packs of biscuits, chocolate bars etc for the staff when I was working in a vaccination centres the staff really appreciated it. As long as the packet is sealed it will be fine

CreosoteQueen · 17/03/2021 05:25

My MIL is currently helping vaccinate and I’m not sure she would be willing to accept anything like this - she has obviously been vaccinated but says that she does feel vulnerable coming into contact with so many people. I’m not sure she would eat from a communal box of biscuits / chocolates.

It’s a really nice idea, I’m just not sure it would work under the circumstances. But equally you don’t lose much by trying - something like individually wrapped chocolates might be welcomed by others!

Silvercatowner · 17/03/2021 05:54

Honestly I find this as weird as wishing to give the staff down Asda a gift every time you use the shop

Do you not realise that the majority of workers at vaccination centres are volunteers? I don't think there are many volunteers working at Asda...

AlternativePerspective · 17/03/2021 06:09

There are a lot of weird people on this thread. the ones who seem to think it’s weird to take along a packet of biscuits To give to volunteers.

What has happened to society that a simple gesture is now deemed to be unacceptable?

It’s a lovely thing to do - we have been given biscuits at the centre I volunteer at (and various other things) and they’ve been very gratefully received.
Buffy81 · 17/03/2021 06:13

I say take it in.

I work in a hospital, so slightly different but it would be very much apricated. Just think about it, when stuff gets delivered to the wards, it all goes in the staff room and shared. I work in an office we all share what we bring in our self with chocolates biscuits fruit etc.

The staff working at the centre might be working very long hours and it might be some time before they get to have a lunch break. There is a vaccine centre round the corner from where I live, I know that they have been accepting donations

ivykaty44 · 17/03/2021 06:17

We’re not allowed to have shared food items in break room presently due to the pandemic

There reasoning is we are working with public face to face and if several of us all put our hands in the same food container it would be a covid risk

We have been gifted food items and they are in the cupboard - but likely by June we might be able to open some stuff

DarceyDashwood · 17/03/2021 06:23

This thread is peak Mumsnet. Lots of people who don’t work in a vaccine centre stating it ABSOLUTELY WON’T be allowed, what are you thinking???? And people who do work in a vaccine centre saying “what a lovely idea - we would love that!”

As for the person who brought obesity into it .....Biscuit

Username916 · 17/03/2021 06:33

At the centre I work in it would be very gratefully received. We get lots of heroes and celebrations so a selection box of biscuits sounds like a lovely change to me (not that I'm complaining at all about all the chocolate Grin)

chocolateorangeinhaler · 17/03/2021 06:37

Don't do it. There are companies already throwing things like this to vaccination centers on a weekly basis for the free advertising (or virtue signaling). There were mountains of tins of chocolates at the one I went to. The nurses actually said they were sick of them now.
