My mil has said that because I'm 30 this year we'd better get a move on and have babies soon because otherwise I'll be too old.. Hmm

I'm having yet another miscarriage so this feels a bit of a slap in the face tbh. I know that the risk increases with age but I'm 30 not 50!

Aibu to tell her to go away and I'll have a baby when I've lost weight and if that's a year or so who gives a shit

OP posts:

29 & 30

But I'm a young mum for the area. Most have their first baby mid-late 30s and last babies in early-mid 40s!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/03/2021 20:14
  1. I'm one of the younger mums at the school gates. That's just how it happened for me though, 30s is not old to have babies.
saywhatwhatnow · 16/03/2021 20:17

29 & 31. Would love to have another around 35/36 if I ever get DH to agree. 30 is not too old!! Your MIL is being rude and ridiculous, it's none of her business anyway. Definitely get DH to have a word!

missingeu · 16/03/2021 20:23

sorry for your loss.

31 and 33.

Freckles1161 · 16/03/2021 20:23

29, 34 and 39. Been with dh since 17, married at 25, we wanted to have holidays, buy a house etc before having kids. See friends who have their kids nearly off their hands now and sometimes feel a bit envious and think should have had kids earlier but me and dh have made so many nice memories just the two of us, I don't regret waiting longer to have a family, dh is 45 and would have a 4th in a heartbeat but got my hands full with three dd's so that's a no no

SpeckledyHen · 16/03/2021 20:25

DS1 39 and 5 months
DS2 41 and 10 months

Tell your MIL to keep her nose out of your business OP.

BTW my MIL had my DH at 19 and her 3rd child at 41 .

Greygreenblue · 16/03/2021 20:28

30 and 32, in the town I live in I was at the younger end of the scale too (the demographics here are not typical). It is weird to feel like a young parent when you’re in your 30s.

On the other hand my MIL commented when I had the twins less than 2 years after the eldest that she had thought we would struggle to have kids because of my age.... Really glad she didn’t say that before I had them.
Though my mother had all her kids in her 30s and my grandmother had 2 in her 40s (when the war ended) so I reckon I would have taken it with a grain of salt.

B33Fr33 · 16/03/2021 20:28

30, 32, 41. Pretty young for my first amongst my peers, but pretty "old" for where I'm living.

30 isn't old at all

crappytimes · 16/03/2021 20:29

34 and 37.

fluffy71 · 16/03/2021 20:30

31,32, 36 and 47! Your MIL was insensitive btw

Amri997 · 16/03/2021 20:30

I’m turning 27 in less than two weeks. My family especially my mom are telling me everyday that fertility is ticking. Years are going so fast that I’ll be 30 in no time. No partner, no baby.
And I hate it when my family compare me to other women saying that they have kids when I don’t.
It makes me feel so low and upset.
I’ve dated a few guys and have made amazing memories over the years. If I had a baby I wouldn’t have been able to do that.
The sad thing is that my relationships haven’t gone anywhere.
Fertility is ticking but I do feel you should try to have a kid by 35 at least.

Cahu58 · 16/03/2021 20:31

33 and 38

lilsquish · 16/03/2021 20:45

ChampionOfTheSun · 16/03/2021 20:48

I was 26 when I had DD. I was planning to wait until I was in my 30's but certain health conditions meant I had to speed things up a bit, my mum had my siblings in her 30's, one of my best friends had her first baby in her 30's. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage Flowers

Sorry for your loss OP. I had my first at 27.The midwife classed me as an "Elderly Primagravida." That was in 1987. I was 36 when I had my second.

Your mil is completely out of order, it's none of her business

welshladywhois40 · 16/03/2021 21:36

My first at 38 and second at 41. So you are a spring chicken compared to me!

DramaAlpaca · 16/03/2021 21:40

I had mine at 29, 30 and 33. When I was 28 my DM told me I'd better get on with it if I wanted children as I was getting on a bit. She'd had me at 28 and was referred to as an 'elderly primigravida' (is that right?) so I suppose was basing it on that.

Gooseysgirl · 16/03/2021 21:41
