To be angry at the frenzy caused by others last night

I think it was utterly disrespectful. We are in lockdown and it was not the right time for a protest. I agree with a quiet, respectful, socially distanced space to grieve - which is what appeared to happen during the day.

The latest news from LBC sum up the Met Police.. but carry on defending them as they can do no wrong..

ChancesWhatChances · 15/03/2021 18:57

“I know nothing more or less than any of you, so don’t attack me for giving an opinion. I feel sorry for the police quite frankly.”

Says it all really. Us horrible horrible women holding a vigil for a woman murdered by a police officer. How utterly dare we.

jcyclops · 15/03/2021 19:00

How ironic that a gathering in Parliament Square on Sunday to protest against the handling of the vigil and male violence and abuse towards women were chanting "Fuck Priti Patel" and "Fuck Cressida Dick"

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 19:01

Most of the women were wearing masks

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 19:02

Channel 4 news now

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/03/2021 19:04

No! Not ironic at all.

Just another day in the misogynist calendar!

Shows quite clearly just how many are willing to use someone's death to give themselves permission.

Any arrests at that particular illegal gathering, do you know?

LexMitior · 15/03/2021 19:04

@Roussette

A police employee sharing private information like that would be very compromised in her job... it's contrary to Police standards.
Yes exactly - that person would be disciplined immediately. Some people are either very guillible or disengenuous.
MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 19:12

Just been reported on Ch 4 news that another officer shared a graphic image

Just bear in mind that the Police and Criminals Bill that Priti is trying to shove through the HoC gives more protection to defacing of Statues (10 years in prison) than rape of a woman (4 years) so I would be having to work hard at holding myself back if I had been there from saying 'Fuck Priti Patel'

She is, at the moment, being pushed to publish the report from the Met commissioner and to confirm what communication she had with the Met prior to this vigil.

The 296 page bill being debated contains the word 'memorial' 8 times and fails to include the word 'women once

That is what we need to worry about...

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 19:16

@Rousette Sad Angry

Graphista · 15/03/2021 19:16

@rousette well said

They just covered this very well

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 19:21

Well said Roussette

LexMitior · 15/03/2021 19:21

@rousette - apparently touching a lump of stone or metal is a greater harm and far more serious than rape. I would have said was criminal damage which is already an offence but hey apparently statutes are of more significance than actual living people to the state.

Our society is becoming narrow and nationalistic. And now we need special little laws to show how much we dislike certain actions but actual harm to actual people, not so much.

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 19:22

@MercyBooth

Just been reported on Ch 4 news that another officer shared a graphic image
From the BBC

A probationary Metropolitan Police officer involved in the Sarah Everard search operation in Kent has been removed from their duties for allegedly sharing an "inappropriate graphic" with colleagues.

The force says a graphic was shared via social media on Friday and was reported by a number of officers "who were concerned by its content".

In a statement, the Met says: "The PC had been deployed as a cordon officer supporting the search operation in Kent in relation to the murder of Sarah Everard.

"The officer has been removed from these duties and placed in a non-public facing role while inquiries continue.

"The graphic does not contain photographic images, no images of Sarah, nor any other material obtained from or related to the investigation into Sarah's murder."

Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave says: "The MPS expects its officers to behave professionally at all times and this includes how they use social media. I take allegations that any officer or officers have failed to observe these standards very seriously and have referred this matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."

The force says Sarah Everard's family have been made aware of the incident.

No
Rape can carry a sentence of 4 years to life

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 19:25

And for Flaxmeadow

It is not just in central London that crowds have been gathering this evening - hundreds of people have attended a protest in Leeds against the way the Metropolitan Police handled the vigil for Sarah Everard at the weekend.

Roussette · 15/03/2021 19:25

@LexMitior

Well said. The ring of police protecting Churchill's statue on the same night says it all

To be angry at the frenzy caused by others last night
Alsohuman · 15/03/2021 19:26

@LakieLady

It seems that some officers decided to ignore another indecent exposure that happened in the vicinity of Clapham Common on Saturday night

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/mar/15/officers-allegedly-failed-to-help-woman-flashed-at-way-home-sarah-everard-vigil

Ffs, talk about picking and choosing what laws they want to uphold.

Jesus, that’s awful.
Roussette · 15/03/2021 19:27

Flax
I know that.
4 years??

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 19:30

Not one Government minister was able to come on Channel 4 news tonight which tonight is being presented by Cathy Newman Fatima Manji and Jackie Long.

rosetylersbiggun · 15/03/2021 19:41

Going back to the Facebook screencap purporting to be from a police woman, I have no idea if that's real or where it comes from, but my aunt shared a DM she said she received from an old friend who's a police officer, which is very similar and contains the same falsehoods as the screencap.

I trust my aunt and I believe her when she says she knows this person well and knows that they are genuinely a police officer.

The whole thing is strange.

Moulesvinrouge1 · 15/03/2021 19:42

@Flaxmeadow

It's about violence to women by men and our right to stand up and say "Enough is enough".

I wholeheartedly agree

For some reason you seem to think that is unreasonable

No. What's unreasonable is womens groups completely ignoring what's happening in the north.

Well organise some then! This was one vigil, five minutes from where a woman was snatched. It’s not a conspiracy against the North. Clapham is densely populated with a relatively young working population as it houses thousands of people who have moved from all over the UK to live and work in London. Of course a huge city will have a huge population to turn out. M Southern doesn’t equate to posh.
SquirmOfEels · 15/03/2021 19:53

@MercyBooth

Just been reported on Ch 4 news that another officer shared a graphic image
It's not a graphic image, it's an inappropriate graphic (my guess, a meme)

There's a cop who won't be passing their probation.

Note the careful drafting of the police statement to avoid all pronouns

Flaxmeadow · 15/03/2021 20:05

Well organise some then

I'm asking why feminists and womens groups have not raised issues, or even discussed it so far. Why is that? I've asked but no answer. The answer just seems to be "organise yourself" buy I want to know why womens groups and feminists haven't already? There are womens groups and feminists on here, can anyone answer me please. This is problem that had been going on for years now. The Jay Report was released over 5 years or 6 even?

Also l, as I've said, three times now, a march actually was organised, against crime gangs targeting girls and women, in the north but the (London) media accused the march of being "right wing" or "EDL" (it wasn't) and antifa showed up and threw missiles.
The speakers, and march, was actually multi ethnic and peaceful but the London media smeared it and no feminist or womens groups, as far as I know, attended it
It was in Manchester
