Mother day 'that's lovely Darling' stories- very very lighthearted

I'm currently laying in bed having been sent upstairs whilst my 3 year old and her Dad make me a mothers day 'surprise'. It's cute, hilarious and worrying in equal measures:)))
I've already been called been 3 times for various questions like have we got any golden caster sugar (who has???) ok will ordinary caster sugar taste the same? "Mummy do you like lemon muffins because I don't", Is the fan oven the same as a normal oven?
And I'm listening to the conversation going on such "that's ok I think we've all the egg shell out" and "look if you keep eating all that there won't be any muffins and you'll make yourself sick".
Bless them both but it doesn't sound good:)))
Anyone else having to smile it out whilst dreading their mother's day 'surprises?' Would love to hear your stories.

I didn't know golden caster sugar was a thing! Shock

Ah, remember those days well. I got up at half nine to make coffee and found a bunch of flowers, a bottle of gin and a card addressed to “maw bags” on the kitchen table. The teens/adult offspring will surface some time this afternoon. I think I prefer it this way!

littlepattilou · 14/03/2021 11:51

But yeah I get you. Mother's Day is meant to be peaceful and tranquil, and is meant to give mummy a rest. But you can find yourself working harder than ever!

'Daddy' rarely takes the lead does he!?

Tauranga · 14/03/2021 11:53

@dementedma

maw bags is brilliant!

dementedma · 14/03/2021 11:56

Tauranga, there is a card for their grandmother too - addressed to
The G’meister!

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 14/03/2021 11:56

I woke (as usual really) to the sound of DH shouting at the DC nagging them to write my card. Kind of takes the shine off it a bit if they have to be yelled at to write something nice about you...

BraveGoldie · 14/03/2021 11:56

I had the 'special treat' of being woken with huge bangs on my bedroom door by my DD at 7.48am.....

She had a tray with my breakfast (which I normally don't eat until 10...). The cereal was nice, but trying to eat it at that time was tough.... and her attempt at making a coffee was very sweet (she only used the milk pod and forgot all about the coffee).

However all well.... I was allowed to fall asleep for another two hours afterwards and got the lie in I was hoping for. 🥰

Hope the muffins delight, OP!

I have boxes of cards from many a year.. And a jewellery box of garish stuff never worn but kept forever!!
Just had a huge 17yo sat in my kneee saying Happy Mother's day! Wonderful truly!!

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 14/03/2021 12:00

I think my poor DH is too nice. DC are old enough to do stuff for themselves now but he has a tendency in general to do too much stuff for them and today is no exception. He bought the card and made the breakfast. Teen DD contributed a cup of tea and DS a hug.

AllDoneIn · 14/03/2021 12:02

My two brought in a bowl of scrambled egg with no visible shell which was a vast improvement on last year 😁

BlingLoving · 14/03/2021 12:02

DD (6) used her BEST handwriting to write my card. I was suitably impressed. But at the bottom was a line I couldn't really decipher. "Oh, ignore that" says DD, giggling and looking a bit embarrassed. Then she came out with it, "It says 'I just hurt my finger'". Apparently she'd hurt her finger, decided to write it, written it badly (due to hurt finger) but couldn't remove it. It was so cute. I love the stream of consciousness.

DefinitelyOdd · 14/03/2021 12:02

I got woken by the smoke alarm going off, the cats diving for cover under the bed and DH swearing profusely.

I came down to some wilted daffodils, a homemade card/picture and a sticky DD covered in glitter glue. Who was clutching a plate with a burnt bacon sandwich with a couple of bites taken out of it.

AChickenCalledDaal · 14/03/2021 12:07

I still have many random gifts from years past, including a very strange piece of wood with MUM carved alarmingly haphazardly by penknife. I suppose I should be grateful we didn't spend that whole day in A&E.

The culprit is now 18 and has just spontaneously done the washing up and swept the floor. I'll take that!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/03/2021 12:08

When my youngest DD was three, she presented me with a Minions Easter egg. According to DH, she adamant it was the perfect gift... Chocolate and Minions, what more could anyone want?
It cost a whole 80cents, and was actually inedible... Even for the 3yo.
But, it's the thought that counts.

Same DD is now 8 (well, tomorrow it's her birthday) and has recently been allowed to use the kettle herself. I love hearing her make coffee... She follows her instructions on the box implicitly so I hear her setting the timer on Alexa so it's exactly the right time.

“scrambled egg with no visible shell”🤣

I had a box of chocolates .... there were a few missing because ‘I ate some’. Hmm😆

lollipoprainbow · 14/03/2021 12:18

rbmilliner · 14/03/2021 12:18

My huge 12 year old DS just crashed through my bedroom door bearing a plate of cheese and cracker because “it’s the only thing he can make” and then sat with me and shared them because “there was a lot of cheese on them”
I completely adore him

LunaNorth · 14/03/2021 12:25

I received a Tupperware box full of homemade gluten free Ferrero Rocher through the post from uni student DS2. I’ve never been so touched.

DS1 sent me some flowers last weekend. He got the wrong date! But they’ve lasted all this time.

Bless them both. It’s my first Mother’s Day without my mum and my first without my kids around, but they’ve made it lovely.

morekidsthanhands · 14/03/2021 12:26

My partner works away most weekends so had hidden a present with the kids a few days ago. I've spent the last few days trying to stop them from getting it out and playing with it.

This morning I was woken at 4am by my 7 year old telling me he has missed the toilet. Then later at 6 my 4 year old lobbed a present clinging to its last shred of wrapping paper at me and said mum its chocolate can I have one now please?

ghostyslovesheets · 14/03/2021 12:26

My cat just gave me a gift - a lovely chewed mouse!
