Mother day 'that's lovely Darling' stories- very very lighthearted

I'm currently laying in bed having been sent upstairs whilst my 3 year old and her Dad make me a mothers day 'surprise'. It's cute, hilarious and worrying in equal measures:)))
I've already been called been 3 times for various questions like have we got any golden caster sugar (who has???) ok will ordinary caster sugar taste the same? "Mummy do you like lemon muffins because I don't", Is the fan oven the same as a normal oven?
And I'm listening to the conversation going on such "that's ok I think we've all the egg shell out" and "look if you keep eating all that there won't be any muffins and you'll make yourself sick".
Bless them both but it doesn't sound good:)))
Anyone else having to smile it out whilst dreading their mother's day 'surprises?' Would love to hear your stories.

I was woken up at 9 with chocolates and sweets being thrust at me. Then was told since I love sharing my gift is sharing my treats Grin smart move kids.

DD made me pancakes about 4 years ago (so was approaching 13). Lemon and sugar was the plan.
She couldn’t find the...ahem....Jif bottle, so, poured Lemoncello on them instead. I had to eat them too.

I got a lovely hamper of my favourite things from DC. Then 5 year old DC burst in with her handmade card in a beautifully decorated envelope. I opened it and 3 different colours of glitter fell out all over my bed. Which she promptly began trying to flick around. I "oohed" and "aahed" at the card, while secretly cursing the school in my head. What kind of idiot suggests the kids fill their cards with glitter. Then, once she'd left, DH quietly said "Sorry about that, I didnt expect it to go everywhere". Shock Yup, he made it with her this morning. Ive showered and come to sit in the garden with a cup of tea while he changes the bed and hoovers.

Well Alexa has just announced that we are expecting a delivery of scented candles. I have to admit, my first thought was ‘MN cliche’ Grin I best start faking my delighted surprise

Flibbitygibbit · 14/03/2021 14:42

Have reminded my now 28 year old of the time when he proudly brought me up breakfast in bed , must have been 7 ish. On a tray were coco pops and a cup of tea. "Lovely darling" I said, " but you mustn't boil the kettle without me " "oh I didn't mummy, I got the hot water out of the tap!"

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/03/2021 14:48

When DD was away at uni , I rang her and thanked her for her lovely card....I didn't mention the fact that she had paid the wrong postage so I had to drive to the nearest sorting office (10 miles away), pay the excess postage, plus the "fine" of £1.00. That card cost me around £4.00 taking into account petrol and parking charges...the actual card was £1.50, I know because she had left the price sticker on it.

Treacletreacle · 14/03/2021 15:13

I think the best present I ever got was when my son put 6 pence in my card and told me to treat myself

Fluffyhairforever · 14/03/2021 15:14

@ghostyslovesheets

he's very proud
Your cat is awesome. Look at his expression! Love it!
AndAPartridgeInABearTree · 14/03/2021 15:18

My DD wrote she hoped I got some nice pesants which was sweet. If the pesants could perhaps tidy the house and make me a cuppa they would be very nice pesants indeed Grin

ChrissyHynde · 14/03/2021 15:30

I've just had a cuddle off totally undemonstrative DS16 and I quote "first half is off me and the second off DD21 at uni". I've trained her well !

GameSetMatch · 14/03/2021 15:35

I got woken up with ‘happy birthday mummy’ from the three year old not understanding Mother’s Day and my six year old carrying a McDonald’s bag filled with breakfast. Nobody in the house can cook apart from me so DH ordered breakfast which was a lovely surprise!

MaverickDanger · 14/03/2021 15:38

Just had a lovely nap with my 10 week old, who has woken him & me up by farting. He then smiled and fell back asleep.

MaverickDanger · 14/03/2021 15:39

Also woke up first thing to this on the bed from the cats.

True love, I tell you.

Probably 4 or 5 years ago my DD bought a me a mildly humourous (but slightly tacky ) sign about being a mum. Of course as she had chosen and given it to me , I said that was nice (it wasnt something I wanted, or would have chosen)
DH then went on and on what a rip-off it was and told me the price (it was ridiculous!) ...but presumably he had either not given the kids a budget, or agreed to buy it.
He still mentions it years later!😂😂😂 (I mean it was £12, when we would have thought £5 was reasonable, not hundreds!!)
DS knows I love a bargain, he gave me some flowers last year and said "these were really cheap!!" Grin

ShrikeAttack · 14/03/2021 15:53

Not me, but when my younger brother was about 3/4 he made my Mum breakfast in bed for Mother's Day which consisted of half a pint of gin in a plastic camping mug and a slice of bread with approximately a pound of butter on. I was sitting chatting to my Mum when he brought it up and he was so proud of himself.

It's gone down in family legend.

WetJan · 14/03/2021 18:07

Oh god. I've just had flashbacks of all the absolute tat I've given my mum over the years Blush The silver "mum" necklace from Argos was a particularly low point.

I'm working a long day today, but have had a WhatsApp picture of the (biro scrawled) card in envelope, bottle of wine and hot cross buns awaiting me when I get home. Grin

Belledan1 · 14/03/2021 18:13

My teen DS put in my card. To mom. Can I have a dog (constantly badgering me for one) love and his name. I got the card at 12pm. DH got me a present.

EsmeeMerlin · 14/03/2021 18:17

Ds1 age 7 chose me a mug with a little teddy in. I asked why he chose that one and he said “because it was the cheapest.” Grin

KateF · 14/03/2021 18:38

I have various odd little gifts and cards the dds have made over the years in a box under the bed. I've been a single parent for ten years and spent many a Mother's Day morning apprehensively listening to dd1 trying to organise her sisters into making breakfast, burnt toast and cold tea usually!

This morning I took dd1 (21) to do her food shop. She said 'I thought we could have lunch together'. 'Lovely' I said. 'Great' she replied 'What are we having?'Hmm

However, they have given me chocolate, nice soap and a plant so I forgive them.

notanothertakeaway · 14/03/2021 18:44

My DS bought some lovely gifts, and I am very grateful. Unfortunately, I found them by chance last night, when i was following his trail of mud through the house

Crazycatlady83 · 14/03/2021 18:48

My DS5 made me “me” in potato form. He painted it red (his favourite colour), brown hair, and said I have to sleep with it by my bed. I’m not sure how long I have to sleep with it by my bed - how long do painted potatoes last before they start to rot/smell?!

Sceptre86 · 14/03/2021 18:48

My babies have given me lots of hugs and kisses throughout the day, a homemade card and beautiful tulips. I have gotten some maternity summer clothes for when my belly grows bigger than the moon according to dd. Dh has done all the cooking all day and it has been a lovely fun day though I am missing mum and mil.

Willowkins · 14/03/2021 19:06

I got afternoon tea 'lovingly' prepared by my teens.

Yes there were questions like:

  • Where is the salmon?
  • Why is it not in a tin? and
  • How do you cut salmon? followed by: How do I clean this tray (me: preferably without moaning); and ending up with: Next year you're getting candles. It was lovely just to sit down with them and chat. I'm happy.
