Sarah protest vs BLM protest

changedthenamemate · 14/03/2021 10:58

AIBU to wonder why I have read no negativity about groups forming and becoming violent for the Sarah/claim back the streets protests, yet the BLM and fighting racism protests attracted heavy amounts of criticism and tbh hatred?

Even the Kate Middleton joined in with this protest... But no support was shown (if i remember correctly) about BLM protests from her?

Not being goady, just confused

You know why.

@changedthenamemate

I have not seen the previous deleted thread and no I will not ask for my thread to be deleted.

Don't worry. I am sure someone else will report it for you.

@changethenamemate

I always name change when it comes to posting my own threads compared to replying to other threads.

Why? Confused

Too cowardly to own your views and opinions under your regular username - THAT'S why! Hmm

changedthenamemate · 14/03/2021 11:34

Amazing that a simple question has led to name calling

Why not post with your real name instead of a made up name and own your views?

Xenia · 14/03/2021 11:46

I think we should try to look a facts.
So first thing I checked as one of my student children was it is date of the Great T 25,000 person event - Feb 2020 so that was before the first UK March lockdown. So that was a red herring from me.

Let me find another eco one (I am keeping off BLM ones as that causes more concerns)..... I think we had some for the new big road thing.

Xenia · 14/03/2021 11:48

May 2020 some extinction rebellion people were arrested for a march - we have so many lockdowns and not lockdowns all over this is quite hard to compare.

Don't be so ridiculous. NOBODY on here uses their 'REAL NAME!' It's not even allowed FFS!

But people who are not cowardly will use their regular mumsnet username to post their views. (AND they will use their regular username to have a go at someone for something, and not use a pseudonym.) Wink

Now jog on, there's a wee poppet. Smile

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/03/2021 11:49

How did kate join the protests? She visited a memorial ! She’s also a woman, if she’d joined the blm protest can you imagine the shit she would have received

Xenia · 14/03/2021 11:51

Liberty have been pretty good in relation to the right of protest by anyone, whether black, white, blue, male female or whatever. It should be a neutral issue and some of the covid 29 legislation has specifically allowed some rights to protest and rights for journalists to work i.e. to report on something although wno is a journalist in this day in age now lots of people have mobiles and write blogs is not as easy to decide as it used to be.
www.libertyhumanrights.org.uk/issue/reclaim-these-streets-vigil-must-be-allowed/

I don't want a competition between women, BLM protestors and Extinction Rebellion supporters. I want instead our rights and freedoms to protest and indeed leave our houses to be restored.

Bourbonic · 14/03/2021 11:53

Erm. Both mass gatherings, so both wrong in the current climate. A shame people chose to ignore the wishes of Sarah's family and go ahead with their gathering. People should have gone home when told to etc.

mygenericusername · 14/03/2021 11:54

It’s very simple. One was a protest surrounding various criminals who had died at the hands of police doing their job. The other was for a young girl walking down the street. She was brutally murmured despite doing nothing to deserve it. They are very different and it’s appalling that you have posted, clearly to try and stir up racial tensions.

smellyolddog · 14/03/2021 11:54

One happened on our streets? One happened in another country? Besides that fact as pinkeye out one was a peaceful vigil the other was a protest. Not even comparable in my opinion.

smellyolddog · 14/03/2021 11:56

Meanest to say " as people have pointed out" not pinkeye!

Not sure if she joined in. I only saw her walking around alone in the afternoon.

@Xenia The protests about Lockdown, happened in lockdown - they were allowed to go a head.

(First example I could think of)

Kate took daffodils - as I said in another thread this will most likely be very close to home for her because Diplomatic Police officers are stationed on the sentry gates near the palace.

Are you really so dim that you think this is a 'simple question'?
GCAcademic · 14/03/2021 12:00

Whenever I see "I'm not being goady, but", I don't bother.

HepzibahGreen · 14/03/2021 12:05

There has been quite a lot of " poor men " criticism of the recent events sparked by a young woman's murder, just as there was a lot of " all lives matter" around BLM.
I don't know about the media, but I do know that my employers ( large public body) has had a lot of events initiatives and activity about BLM. I also know they will carefully ignore any discussion of violence against women (as it's rare to hear or read the word woman anymore, and violence is described as gender based, not male on female violence, because poor men)
It's also worth remembering that 50 Percent of black people are in fact female. You know that, yes?

HepzibahGreen · 14/03/2021 12:06

Nobody " deserves" to be murdered by police. Not even criminals. Jeez.

Troublewaters2021 · 14/03/2021 12:10

So I am of an “ minority “ ethnic background ( I don’t like the whole bame thing ) I am also a women.
I also walked past Clapham Common earlier in the day.
I don’t condemn large crowd etc in covid however how this was handled was shocking.

The difference and I will be absolutely jumped on for this

Was George wasn’t as innocent as he was made out originally - he still didn’t deserve to die but he was not innocent.
This was in the US not our home country the met police didn’t feel an ounce of guilt over it. Police were on duty at the time and he died as apart of his arrest.

Sarah was a very innocent women killed by a police officer in our country - however she was not killed in the line of duty or during an arrest. Which many people will say it has nothing to do with all officers but the anger also stems from the lack of investigation by our police force in the build up to her killing which is a police issue.

DrManhattan · 14/03/2021 12:10

Goady.

Oh sweetie, I think we know who's being ridiculous and a coward here, and it's neither me nor the op.

Troublewaters2021 · 14/03/2021 12:14

Forgot to add I walk last Clapham Common and it was very peaceful - the George ones were not.

1stmonkey · 14/03/2021 12:20

The only violence in last night's vigil, as far as I could see, was from the police

You missed the female police officer being punched in the face then? And the group of protesters throwing various items at police officers?
