Someone that is controversial in the media or comes across unpleasant on TV or whatever?

What were they like in real life?

AIBU to think there might be some surprises and some of them will be a persona on TV or whatever?

Why would anyone play up to misogyny if they’re not an arse?

Because they are playing the part of being an arse maybe? I know absolutely nothing about him so can't comment on him in particular really.

My dad met Piers Morgan once on a beach in the carribbean. They were chatting away at the shore for a while and then he kept seeing him each day and they kept on chatting, only quick "nice to see you again" how are you" . The funny thing was my dad had absolutely no idea who he was and one day my mum looked up from her book and saw my dad talking to him. When my dad came back my mum said you do realise that that is Piers Morgan . He must have finished his holiday because they never saw him after that. My dad said he was a really lovely genuine guy,

He's on my list of 'playing a certain part on tv' people. the way people expect him to act and would be disappointed if not!

Piers Morgan might be a lovely and loyal friend, polite and friendly. But he still has done horrific things as editor of a national newspaper and his relentless bullying on GMB is a baddie act. Even nice people can actually behave monstrously.

Isn't a baddie act

@annonnymous

Oh, I know I can't be sued, but I also know this is possibly a magnet for some sort of trashy DM article and to be honest, I found it horrible, talking about it makes my stomach feel all weird and makes me irritable and I don't want to say the name or I'd have said it already.

bossybloss · 14/03/2021 17:28

When my daughter was three, Jimmy Saville was opening a local life boat station. He was sitting in very short shorts on a deckchair out side the building. My daughter approached him ( don’t know if he called her over) I instinctively just called her away.i recalled this story to my boss..she said that she had a similar incident with Rolf Harris when she was little ..and her dad pulled her away from him.

Chewbecca · 14/03/2021 17:30

Gino d’Campo is a ‘villain’ IRL - a burglar. He is a foul man, his persona is manufactured and I despair that TV companies hire him so frequently.

BIWI · 14/03/2021 17:32

It's pretty pointless recounting the anecdotes if you don't share who it is though! You could at least give us a clue?!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 14/03/2021 17:33

Why on earth would you tell a story if you don't want to name the person
If you think it's too identifiable don't even post it 🤷‍♀️

An unattractive man who made a career out of telling incredibly sexist, homophobic and racist jokes.

Oh, I don't know. Sometimes people want to speak about something bad that happened to them, even if it's not full of the details others might like to hear.

That doesn't necessarily narrow it down very much Grin

Isla2021 · 14/03/2021 17:38

@ohcaption disappointed to hear that, I have just bought her book, nooo! What makes her awful?

OlympicProcrastinator · 14/03/2021 17:42

John Leslie. Every bit of a rapey, handsy creep creep as he later turned out to be. My friend had to literally shove him off (nightclub in the 90’s)

ProfessionalWeirdo · 14/03/2021 17:43

Rolf Harris. He was doing a booksigning at my local Waterstone's. I still have the books he signed. One day they might be valuable!

Lots of people seem to really not like James Corden, but when I worked as an extra he made a point of saying hi to everyone on set (Gavin and Stacey - so over a decade ago) and when the food truck was delayed went out and got everyone bacon baps. Seemed really lovely and down to earth.

HalleLouja · 14/03/2021 17:49

I used to know Farage’s ex business partner and they were still friends. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. I am not sure what he saw in Farage.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/03/2021 17:51

Vinny Jones. He was a phenomenal kisser with a stomach you could grate cheese on, allegedly.

Agree, on the occasions I've met Gordon Ramsay he's been an absolute gent. DH met Hugh Grant and Liz Hurley years ago - they gave him a lift on their golf buggy. We both met Jimmy Saville - I was 9, at the beginning of the London Marathon as my dad was running, can't recall much, but DH met him when he was 16 or so (we have a photo) and his mum remembers DH being distinctly uncomfortable around him.

Labobo · 14/03/2021 18:09

@MsAurore - I'm so glad Reece Witherspoon was nice. She comes over as such a lovely person, I want it to be true irl.

Labobo · 14/03/2021 18:10

@CatRamsey

I hugged Ian Watkins from Lostprophets when I was 12

I know Jamie and Rebecca Vardy have had bad press at times but both were very nice when I met them. Jamie was quiet and pleasant, Rebecca was chatty and smiley.
